A letter bearing the seal of the Regent of Yew arrives for King Sid:

"Your Esteemed Majesty,

Greetings,

I hope you are doing well, in good health, and do prosper. Please give your lovely wife my best regards.

I apologize for not having informed you sooner, but events of late have kept me quite indisposed. My brother's funeral took place recently and it has burdened my mind considerably. Forgive me, but I decided to keep it a very private affair. If that were not enough, events of noteworthy import have mastered my attention and now it is needful that I apprise you of them.

The elves of Heartwood refuse to cooperate with the investigation of my brother's murder. They have stymied all attempts to determine who the culprits were by remaining tight-lipped in a nonchalant, arrogant manner. The Archwarden himself is completely frustrated even though he shares their elvish blood; they treat him as if he had no authority whatsoever.

Magnate Isk and myself were badly wounded and nearly slain in Heartwood by elvish renegades not long ago. In addition, this band of theirs (extreme nationalists and racists who call themselves the "Heartwood Faction") has committed numerous criminal acts, from vandalism in defacing the Shrine of Justice with threats of violence, to cutting off the ears of humans, shaping them like those of elves, and leaving them in the streets of the town itself!

I have ordered a curfew from dusk until dawn, and have the Heartwood moongate watched and guarded, but with their stealth skills, it is impossible to ensure there are no trespassers.

It grieves me that all of Heartwood should suffer for the acts of a few knaves, but if this continues, the human citizenry will take matters into their own hands and I cannot say what might be the result. They are quite angry and some elves have been roughly handled.

I seek your guidance milord. What should be our next step? A stronger blockade of the moongate could be made, but how far do you think I should go in using military action? Or should we simply fight fire with fire? Covert activities might have more success, but open hostilities are coming; this I can foresee. Perhaps we should strike first?

I eagerly await your counsel. With your great experience in governance, I am certain we can decide a strategy that will be effective and commensurate with theirs.

I have the highest confidence in your skills to remedy this situation, Yew is the gateway to the Elven Kingdom and perhaps blockading it for a few hostiles may be a bit rash, but I would diffinitly set up checkpoints and restrict travel to those with questionably backgrounds, untill the persons of Heartwood are more forthcoming and sharing information more freely. I only have suggestions with you being on the forefront of this situation ,I leave it up your resolve and pray for a quick end to this matter.
