Thomas sits by the fire, warming his bones against the cold of the night with the hearth and ale, when he hears a knock at the door.
"Come in out of the cold." he yells.
In walks Amber, a pretty little wench that Pol does not approve of, with an envelope in her hands.
"M'Lord, this was left for you in the mail box, and I thought you should read it now, as the Lord King Sidhe brought it by." She hands him the letter, curtsies and then backs out of the room.
Thomas wonders what his old friend is writing about, knowing he is not a man to like taking pen to parchement. As he opens it, he can't help but smile.
He reads within, "Dear Thomas, in the time of your absence, I have been most busy. As per your instructions when you left for your pilgrimage, I have been working towards expanding and fortifying your holdings. To date, the work crews have been busy. We finished construction on an stone keep for yourself and the Lady Polgara to reside in. Tis west of the city of Cove, against the mountains that the Lady Pol adores so. It went faster than imagined, as the mountains were a good source of the materials that went into the construction. As each stone was laid, 6 mages diligently fortified it and warded against magical attacks. The Lady Polgara should feel most safe within the walls.
In addition, we built a home near the mountains of Luna, one you can travel to for solitude and meetings when needed.
I know the Lady prefers the solitude of the cottage, but over the last couple of years the wards used to hide it from discovery have worn thin due to attacks by common murderers. I hope she will find some peace within the walls that we constructed. It requires a lady's touch to complete the decorations, and I shall hire the best in the land. At your leisure I shall personally escort you and the Lady to your knew abode. Just be aware no expense was spared in the construction and outfitting of your homes. I know that you are reluctant to part with a shilling, but I am sure the Lady Polgara will see the wisdom of the purchases made, and a full accounting accompanies this letter.
Amy sends her greetings as well, and asks when you and Pol can visit the castle. I know she is excited to see the both of you, especially Pol. Pless dress warmly, as it is quite cold here on the island. Although the castle is kept warm through hearth and enchantment, I have spiced ale just waiting for your professional opinion on. I am sure that Pol will not be able to screech too loudly if we share a casket or two?
Warmest wishes, King Sidhe, Vassal and dear friend."
"I wonder what Amy is up to, and how King will react when I tell him I have quit drinking so much?" Thomas mutters to himself as he empties the mug. "Hmmmm." _________________ "Always speak the Truth even if it leads to your death." - Lord Godfrey |
