|
So I'm suffering from a very annoying problem. Every so often, I'll go to a website or send someone a message in a chat, and it won't send or my internet will just stop working. It'll just say it's loading, but obviously my internet has gone whack. My wireless thing still shows me at full bars and I'm still connected, but I can't do anything, so I have to turn off my wireless on my computer, then immediately turn it back on and it works. However, this is very annoying. It also effects my Xbox, as it will randomly disconnect me from Xbox live while I still have full signal. It's also annoying for online games, as I'll get disconnected and have to reconnect a lot. It can get in the way of a lot of things. Anyway, I've tried like 3-4 different routers and it still does this stuff. Do you think it has something to do with the modem itself? I'm not sure if it does, because if I plug an ethernet cable into it or the router it works fine and doesn't disconnect me. I really don't understand what the issue is here. Does anyone have any idea? I'd really appreciate it, thanks.
Oh, and when I go home or use someone else's connection, like my school's, it works fine. |

What company do you get your Internet from? What is the brand of modem? My parent's used to have this problem at their house. It actually turned out that it was all hooked up wrong by the technician that came in from Charter. Then again, they have a REALLY weird set up down in their basement that requires them to have the cable that goes to the modem be hooked up to a specific jack in the basement. _________________ Through all else, let Honesty lead you! |

What Samon said. Happened to me a few years back. The cable company ended up replacing my modem twice, third time was the charm and worked, but of course they kept blaming the physical cable line itself. Idiots.
If it goes away on its own, it could be they were just running updates like mad. Sometimes they do that too. |

It's been doing this for like a couple months now. The modem is a typical motorola one, and I'm not really sure what service we get here, I'm assuming Comcast. We get it for free with our apartment complex. I wonder if it might have to do with the set-up; we recently changed to AT&T for cable, and it seems like it might have started doing that around that time, but I'm not positive. Should I try messing with it myself, or could there be some other problem here? |

I'd say have them come out and fix it. If they don't fix it after a few visits.. call a manager. It shouldn't be dropping, but it might have something to do with your swap to AT+T. AT+T may have bumped something, who knows. Anytime a change is made by a sloppy worker, it increases the chance of something screwing up.
LOL trust me.. I'm a field tech, I've seen some stupid errors other techs make. Change one setting (on either comcast side to take you off their cable service, they may have programmed you wrong.. or AT+T might have bumped a cable somewhere) and you set up the possibility of messing another setting up.
Hell, check around the complex, talk to other people who live there. If they seem to be having the same problem, it's definitely that ISP. They may have a bad card at their switch. (but if you tell them that they will laugh at you because the switch always denies having the error) |

This actually happens to us every now and then where we can get on some things but not others. It's the internet company a few times a year decides for say a week, decides oh hey yer gonna have low connection speed, no matter what you pay for a week! (it's like being grounded from the internet when you've done nothing wrong) sadly we just have to ride it out most of the time. _________________ Malorn ‎(12:14 AM):

Alright, so, it seems my internet is working well now (*knocks on wood*), and I didn't even do anything yet because I've been lazy. Maybe there was a general problem with the ISP and they fixed it? I'm not sure. But hopefully things will continue to be fine now, just hope I'm not jinxing it by saying this.
I really appreciate all the advice. If the problems occur again, I'll start investigating more. |

Oh, and Cein, did you mean have AT&T come and fix it or have maintenance from my apartment complex come fix it? |
