Something myself and the boys have been throwing around that we wanted to bring up to the rest of the community.

I've been apart of the ATL rp community since the late 90's (even though I took a 5+ year hiatus) and the biggest thing that I miss (other than a larger community and some of my old friends, and pre AoS rulesets Smile ) is the lack of a centralized place for everyone to hang out.

If anyone remembers Rivendell, they know what I'm talking about. Rivendell was great. Everyone, good or bad, would come there to hang out and interact. Great rp happened. Sometimes "twinks" would come to harass us and we'd, as a rp community, band together, fight them off, and then go back to rp. Really made you respect your fellow rpers more because some of us don't know each other on an OOC level. But I'm getting off topic.

Rivendell was great because it was a totally neutral place for all members of the rp community to come and hang out. At that time there was a few other places that served the same capacity but for this example I am using Rivendell. Everyone knew that when they logged on they could probably find someone at Rivendell to hang out w/ and interact. Miss Amy was ALWAYS there. So was Beowulf (not the one most of you are thinking of), Zym Dragon and others. And of course there came the era of Cesspool, the log sitter.

We, the Infinite Mercenary Company, are offering our little City-State of Blackmarsh (and when I say our, it's really Beowulf since he owns most of the homes there and was nice enough to give us a place to live in his town), as said neutral place. While Rivendell was in "fel" (originally before Fel existed even) and near the Brit moongate, so a little more open to griefers, Blackmarsh is much more off the beaten path. If you are afraid about coming to Fel, don't. It's far away from any moongate and we own all the houses there. Don't be intimidated to go.

We propose that Blackmarsh be this totally neutral area (and for all those Lightbringers, Cal isn't a Necro anymore so I don't want to hear that excuse of a "necro's den" or some such ;p) for the WHOLE rp community to hang out in. Yes, we have tavern nights. This is different. The one law in Blackmarsh will be there is no fighting. This law will be enforced by Infinite. I'm sure everyone can respect that. (We are mercs though *coughbribecough*).

Some of you are thinking "Why?". I put this forward to some people in vent outside the guild and no one was really into it. The community can be MUCH more active and MUCH more unified if we don't segregate ourselves as much. Some segregation is good, and needed for your character. That's why we are trying to create a place that is totally neutral for everyone and no one would have an excuse to refuse to go. If you remember the days of neutral rp hang out spots, and how much fun they were and how good they were for the community, give me a little back up here.

I really like the rp community and I think this is one of the HUGE things that we are missing. I would love to see people just give this a shot. Once we have a spot that we KNOW there will be tons of fellow rpers hanging out, you won't want to look back. Everyone has their kingdoms and little piece of the pie..that's fine. The truth is we're not big enough anymore not to try to get together en masse for something other than a protectorate meeting. I personally am not a big fan of boards (yes, I realize I'm putting this on a message board, sue me), and would rather get to know peoples characters then read a story on the message board. The story means that much more if you actually interact w/ that person and maybe even see the event that is taking place from the story.

Blackmarsh is a HUGE area, and "we" own every building in the immediate area. Not just a building here or there...all of them. This is just something I think we are missing and would be great to see people using it. Guilds usually have a lot of turn out for training or events, but the die hards during the week sometimes get bored. This will help fill that gap in. If you think it's a bad idea, I at least would like you to try. Turn it into a hot spot so the community can become stronger. If you get a new recruit and show them this larger part of the community that they are now apart of, it is really great.

Anyway, I'm not very hopeful but I would like people to give it a go.

I like the idea, Rags.

Perhaps IC Ariana can approach representing Umbra and a contracted agreement can be arranged and signed to support what you are suggesting. I would suggest other people/groups/guilds do it as well from an IC standpoint. Ariana would want something in writing that states that the mercenaries that inhabit the area will not carry out their contracts upon those visiting these lands and that as long as the citizens of Umbra are not the ones to shed blood first that they will be protected under local law from anyone else visiting as well.

If she sent a servant to investigate the area and speak to the locals, whom might she hear about being 'in-charge' that she could request such a meeting.

As Ragnar stated, "we" do own a few houses that are well grouped together. After Ragnar tossed this idea around, I started thinking about other things I could do with the City-State to make it more "user friendly" to the community. I'd like to also start hosting events in Blackmarsh. Such as: Battle Chicken Tournys, Summons Tournys, Jousts, Regular Chicken Tournys...etc. Fun tournaments that ANYONE could partake in. Allow to gambling (for the less virtuous guilds), dining and all that cheesy stuff etc.. I'd also like to host a few random other events..along with the tournys it'd be bi-weekly or monthly. (I vote bi-weekly..and Im kind of a big deal.)

At the moment, Blackmarsh consists of 4 18x18s, a 9x14 and a 10x11. (2 other massive...massive plots...may be purchased..but Im up and down on the idea.)

One 18x18 has been recently "rented" to Cal to live in. It'd be super-duper if he made it more than just a personal house and somethin for people to be able to visit. (Along with a small portion to be personal to him. No pressure bud.)

The other 18x18 is the Tavern/Inn. Pretty chill place. Our treasure room and contract/meeting room is there. Along with the tavern portion and four bedrooms for rent upstairs. (Do with them what you must.)

The other 18x18 is our Barracks. I'm debating changing it around a bit to fit a tournament area etc.. A cool thing about Blackmarsh being located in fel..is if friends in Sanctus and.. Blue Lotus (purely example) want to duel or piss with eachother, they can do so in Blackmarsh. Instead of the hassle or trying to war eachother for a few minutes etc..

The other 18x18 is the Arcanamach museum. If Blackmarsh takes off in anyway as a "Hot spot" I will be changing all my focus to the museum. We have the Grand Library..but I'd like to focus on ARPC history in the museum. Items signifying past guilds, books on past "Heros" or "Super Villians" (For the sake of argument..those terms are the best I could think of.) A place that guilds can take their recruits or slaves..and show them Sosarian History and such. Along with of course..Arcanamach lore. Huzzah.

The 9x14 is Ragnars shack.

The 10x11 is the famous "Blackmarsh Animal Pen" where we raise cattle...and Battle Chickens.

I fully agree with Ragnar..I think Blackmarsh could be a perfect neutral place for all to use. I'm fairly certain we could make sure that every and all guilds could and would enjoy themselves there. Like I said, I'd also be all for setting up roleplay events on a regular basis..aside from just the Monday night tavern hop..and Bi-Sunday Protectorate meetings.

Questions, comments..continue replying.

I like the idea Rags - any opportunity to unify the community is a good thing.

Currently the various sects of the ARPC are able to align to areas of the Kingdom based on their leaning of alignment.

Perhaps Blackmarsh could serve as a central post for many of the things that all the guilds need - all things town related.

Perhaps we need to consider Blackmarsh the capital of the RP community; encourage members to commune there for 'city based' needs, much like people used to with Rivendell. My that, I mean, provide ever type of available vendor you could find in existing towns - all ARPC player owned. They could sell various goods/services found in existing NPC Towns as well Luna vendors. You could centralize all ARPC vendors in Blackmarsh and encourage the community to shop there first, making it a constant focal point as people come in/out to gather supplies and cross-paths with enemies etc...

Could very easily provide a means of ad-hoc roleplaying.....

I'd like to see instead of vendors... a monthly Marketplace for an hour or so where folks could rply trade goods, arrange caravans of goods, etc. I have considered something like that for Umbra, but be nice to see that sort of thing inter-alignment as well.

We will be pursuing a lot of these ideas, with emphasis on it being neutral ground.

I sort of had that idea in mind with Mazewood. No bad spawn, own all the houses or are owned by freinds. Most just won't go to fel.

I'm one of those who typically don't visit Fel, simply because I lack experience. A neutral ground would definitely make it more appealing. And I am all for the idea.

I think this is a wonderful Idea.

Even those of us that don't participate in some of these would love to come and watch and rp with other onlookers!

I'd be all for this. As most know, Yasa loves taverns. *rolls eyes* And really, any spot that can have fandom duels is good. You guys have a spot for that already?

I have been playing around with this idea for the MTT for the past couple weeks as well. I'd love to see someone step up..or maybe we have a new rotating event in that idea.
