|
She sat in the shadows of her room contemplating the meaning of tomorrows event. She would be at last 16 years of age..and as was traditional in her family. A proper season was to be had for young Genny. She sighed... Technically a young girl, upon her first season, was no longer allowed to be in public with their hair down. At least in her mothers day, that was so. A young lady must always be wearing proper attire, five of her favorite gowns were being gotten rid of she had grown a bit and they were well above the ankle.
She sighed.. she would not wear her hair up. Yet a small part of her must admit she was excited, the dancing, the parties, a few drinks maybe.. Of course with two brothers like hers she doubted a fellow would have a chance to speak to her.
She picked up the tailors mannequin and danced about the room with it humming to herself when Evey walked in. She did not notice at first and the small girls laughter broke her reverie. Evey smiled, Is that your new boyfriend Genny. Genny growled and making her hands into claw like hands she yelled I am a vampire and I vant to suck your blood!
Evey shrieked and ran out of the room and Genny followed fast after her, the spirit of youth still strong within their hearts. As she later cuddled up in her bed she slipped her hand inside her pocket. The necklace her mother gave her was tucked just inside and given for the upcoming occasion long ago, a small tear appeared in her eye. I will make you proud Mama, and she let out a small sigh as she drifted off to sleep, Evey curled next to her. How precious was youth for all little girls eventually grow up... |

Adrian sat at the desk of his temporary office in Britain, leaning uncharacteristically lazily for the noble. His fingers idly tapped the thick darkwood surface before him, staring out the window into the darkening night.
Adriian had always been successful, he always knew what to say or what to do. In this instance though, he had to go above and beyond in a way he was unfamiliar with. As an older brother to Genny, he'd always been protective and giving in the past, but he was her brother.
It was a father's work he did for the girl now, and finding a way to celebrate that was both fun and appropriate for the young girl was taking considerably longer than he would of liked.
A couple walked out of the tavern near Adrian's building, their laughter faint but audible in the night. As he watched them walk away down the street, their hands clasped tightly, something else came into view.
The sight of a man now entering the tavern, stopping to take off the thick mask that he'd apparently been using to fend off the chill of night.
If Adrian were asked to describe himself, one word that certainly came to mind was observant.
As the noble son of Britain observed her people, as he always did..Something clicked.
He turned in his chair, his back straightened, one hand reaching to fix his large hat, the other reaching for a pen. |

It was the strangest sight. Genny, looking like a princess to Evey, dancing with a headless doll the size of her. Evelyn had to put both hands to her face just to stifle her giggle. Not good enough . Her laughter escaped just the same. Genny looked to Evey. Evelyn laughed as she asked “What are you doing Genny?”
She smiled and sighed, “Growing up” Genny resumed her dancing. Evelyn then asked cheekily, “Is that your boyfriend” The young girl squealed as her aunt chased her through the manor.
As Evey laid there that night, she dreamed the entire story.
Genny was so sick, someone must have had a curse put on her, an Evil Witch maybe? Then she locked her in the highest Tower! The details became more and more fantastical. Where a fierce dragon circled around guarding it. Only the bravest of princes could defeat. And the only thing that could break the spell that Genny had on her was true love’s kiss!
Evey woke the next morning convinced that her dream was true, it had to be because Genny had been dancing around, all traces of her curse gone! She must have been kissed, but by who? Evelyn mustered up the courage to as her aunt, “Genny, who broke your curse and made you not sick? Are you going to marry the prince now? Is that what you mean by growing up? Are you going to live in a castle now?” Then the most important question tumbled out, “Are you going to live happily ever after?” Evelyn grinned from ear to ear as she waited for Genny to answer these questions over breakfast. |

Twas the morning of her birthday and with great excitement she rushed ribbons flying face beaming down for her breakfast.
A tasty bowl of porridge placed before her she began to daintily eat it, primly wiping her lips. (She was a lady now after all).
Evey sleepy eyed, and still in bedclothes climbed upon a chair and the questions did begin...

Porridge sprayed across the room splatters of it as the last question was asked as Genny nervously tried to mop up the mess. No, Yes hopefully, No, No but maybe someday, yes? She thru out the answers in quick succession.. her first day as a Lady was not going as Lady like as she wished. Looking down at her ruined new dress she burst into tears and ran from the room. She missed mama, she was doing horrible at growing up alone...
Evey just rolled her eyes and said to herself.. *I am never growing up* |
