The forest was calm that evening. Drayden had been lucky to be spared from ill weather over the past few days. It had taken him a day alone to find this location outside of Sanctus. The Sanctan military never seemed to get around to the end of their territory. The drow had taken care to insure that his small camp was hidden from the more well travelled parts of the city. He looked from his perch in a large tree, he could make out the stable yard and the lights in the window of Hanse's Hostel. His past three evenings had been spent slinking through the shadows amongst the Sanctans. His first day however was the most amusing...
It seemed that the Sanctans had an agenda during his first evening, as most of their regulars were in formation. One even caught sight of him as he came about the tavern, he stepping into a large hole and it took all he had to make sure he didn't cripple himself. Drayden was forced to stick to the trees and run for the southern cave. He recognized a familiar house, the one belonging to Tatiana Alexi, an old friend. The drow melted into the shadows and quickly slipped inside. The Sanctans did not follow and he found himself hiding behind a pile of bars as Tatiana worked at the forge and anvil. After a brief moment of chatter, she offered to repair some of his damaged equipment. He kept his eyes to the windows as she went about fixing some of his more shredded pieces of leather armor.
Luckily, they didn't come looking inside for him and he was able to steal away to his secret campsite. As he sat here this evening, he couldn't help but marvel at the stark differences between the Moonglow Militia and the Sanctan military. When caught in Moonglow, they seemed intent on treating him as a common criminal. He wasn't sure if the Sanctans would be so forgiving if he were caught.
Perhaps they will feel like having a drink one night, so I can be done with this task and move on to the more pressing one...
The second night had been spent watching the Sanctans drill and spout off about their "heroic battles" and other propaganda. With these humans it seemed that they were more than willing to exaggerate their victories and down play their losses. As he watched them he noticed another important mark, the woman known as Ariana Lenior was walking up the road from the south. According to his contacts, these two had a love affair in the works. He had already thought that this was something that could be exploited. The Drow's crimson eyes watched the Prince as he addressed his formation. Drayden grinned then as he watched unseen from his hiding spot.
In times of war, we must do what is necessary...that includes harming women and children.
Ariana moved on past the formation of Sanctans and headed towards the Hostel. As silent as death itself, the Drow followed her inside the tavern, taking only a few moments to watch her. There was no one about, so he took the opportunity quickly.
"Do you think they can protect you all the time?" Drayden spoke as he melded from the deep shadows of the room. He had a smirk on his face as he slowly approached the human woman. Her eyes grew wide as she saw him, immediately she was backpedaling to get away from him. That was good, he wasn't here to fight, he was here to intimidate and disrupt this "Order of Light". And this was his perfect target....her connection to the prince was valuable, and it deserved exploitation.

"Do you think they can protect you all the time?" a voice whispered from behind her.

She turned around sharply to face him as she immediately began to step backwards toward the front door. As soon as she took that first step, she silently cursed at herself. She attempted to will herself to stop and stand her ground, but the fear rode like a wave over her battered emotional wall. She continued her cautious retreat from the drow. "Why did I listen t'Davaran... I knew better... this trust in them is goin' t'get me killed, " she thought to herself.

"Ye stay away from me... ye stay back, " she spoke, although even in so short a phrase she couldn't keep the fear out of her voice. The fear permeated her very core mixing in a torrent with exhaustion that caused her to shiver slightly. He looked calmly at her. Amusement in his red eyes as he... smirked. Damn.

Frustration built up in her alongside with the fear. "Cyrus is goin' t'ave a field day wit' t'is. I manage t'get one moment without 'im assignin' some damn guard t'shadow my every move an' t'is happens," she silently muttered. Her eyes watched the drow intently and as his body glided to the side towards the back door, she screamed. As soon as she was sure his path hadn't deviated, she turned and ran outside.

She ran immediately to the wall where Davaran sat completely calm. She pressed her back against the cold stone wall as she scanned the familiar face approaching her with a quickened pace. She quickly explained to Cyrus she had seen a drow in the hostel, her disheveled appearance only emphasizing the fear of her tone. He motioned for her to come with him and she hesitated as if reluctant to leave the hard security that protected her vulnerable back from the unseen. He stood there and waited as if confident that she would do as he had silently asked. After a few moments, she conceded and walked quickly to his side as he led her towards Castle Blackguard.

The Prince quickly spoke to the Lord Commander about the situation. Ariana quietly moved to the side and stood near the castle even as she saw the inevitable motion from WinzO signaling Chancler to stand guard over her. She heard Winzo's strong voice rise up as calling out that a patrol was to be done of the surrounding lands immediately. She met Cyrus's eyes for a moment and quickly retreated into the secure walls of Castle Blackguard. Chancler fell in behind her in obedient duty to the Lord Commander's orders, his intelligent eyes scanning the corridors as she moved towards the throne room. She felt a small relief as they made it inside the throne room and she quickly took a seat near the far end. She took a deep breath as her body trembled quietly as the adrenaline from the incident coursed through her veins.
