Hi guys. Since this topic was such a hit under the vote I figured I would start a thread on the idea that Malicite presented.
For those who can't read, here's a recap:

Malicite wrote:
There is nothing wrong with the previous options, but I wanted to make one suggestion.

Has anyone considered the option of having a group of people prepare and execute large scale RP events? Something that everyone could have the ability to participate in, with multiple "actors/actresses" guiding a plot forward. I'm not suggesting epic wars or anything like that, but it would be interesting to have old-school Seerish plots again.

For me, that would be a very cool way to spend a Tuesday night. Each day could be a different chapter of the story. Just to be clear, the story wouldn't be planned out in far advance. The events of each week would determine where the story went.

This has been discussed before I think. (one of the last times I was playing Razz) but I thought it deserved it's own thread, because hey, we're trying to bring everyone together right? I love the ARPC, but sometimes it seems like everyone is caught up with their own inner guild RP or whatnot. Malicite has the right idea I think. I'm not saying that inner guild/alliance RP is bad or anything, but just some of the basic ideas that were presented in the poll thread hold some really good potential. I really like working on tying plots together and I'm very interested in working with Mal on this idea.
The basic idea of having an ongoing semi scripted plot is a fantastic idea and I think it deserves discussion.
First though we need to decide who gets to plan this stuff. I am definitely interested in helping this along and want to be involved, I can think of a few others. The key here is to have people from all parts of the community. (Good guys, bad guys, gray ones....) Don't necessarily need to be the GMs of all the guilds. I think a half dozen people from some of the key guilds and alliances will be good enough.
I'm not trying to come up with plot ideas yet, as we don't have this together, but I would like to have an idea of who wants to form the committee to pioneer this awesome idea.

P.S.: Kudos to Malicite for saying it how it needed to be said Smile

Thank you for your kind words! I would love to brain storm with people about this idea; should you have me of course! I always loved the old Seer events where the players were encouraged to take part in the whole story. In this case, I would love to see those chosen "actors" start the gears moving with a story and really let the community dictate where it goes. Please let me know if I can be of any help!

I will say this, we should somehow make sure that it is different people switching around, and planning events, taking turns. That way there is variety and it isnt the same people doing it each time. Sorry if I came in this discussion late however I think once again this is truly an excellent idea for the community.

We need to take charge of our rp together and mingle more. There are alot of you I wish to rp with, its hard to break the ice sometimes. In fact many of you in this thread are just those people. Group events help that alot.

I don't think we need a formal committee or procedure. If someone has a plot idea they should get the ball rolling, bring a few people they want to help on to help "DM" or "script" parts of it and ask their GM to assist them in touching base with other GMs to get them involved if they don't know the GMs themselves.

While the idea has good intentions behind it, I feel that having a "Committee" for plots will discourage the average person from starting plots.

I agree with Darrien. I feel it would lead to too much with scripted rp and then to many of the problems I saw on Great Lakes which killed the game for me. I can say that I've had so much fun here since I came with all the impromptu rp. Besides, if all the GM's have each other's ICQ, how can plot lines not get initiated and started??? Hell I know I'm open for storylines!

Rp community events are awesome. Personally, I'd love to see 'neutral' story plots created that are semi-unscripted. I'm completely for unscripted rp and actually go out of my way to keep my characters as unscripted as possible. Cyrus knows this better than anyone *grins*... Sure sucked for you to roll that 1 didn't it Prince? *giggles*

Also, would like to suggest the community leaders choose one day a week to maybe work together on a mass recruitment sort of thing. I know many of you drop books w/displays already, but what if one night a week or a couple times a month we all get together and swamp New Haven with the displays and location runes. We could also drop a "RP Do's and Don'ts" sort of book to get folks started or include the info in the recruitment books. Each recruitment book including a url to the ARPC as well as any guild urls. Bringing new members into the community is important, even if folks don't choose your guild it makes for maybe a new antagonist for your guild or if nothing else, a new person to rp with. We could even have folks set up "podiums" in character evangelizing their ideals... Umbra could have someone talking about how awesome necromancy is... Sanctus about the virtues... Moonglow about the isle and the importance of Honesty... Cap about how kindred are better than everyone else, BL about something ninja'ie. etc. It allows it to be somewhat ic and it might allow for folks to interact with one another in a neutral setting to show some of the differences of the guilds as well as stimulating non-rpers to get involved. Could totally see the different podiums competing rp wise for the attentions of the crowd and maybe even some playful banter and debates.

Poor Ariana... I might have rolled the one but its on you to actually rp the results... So... we'll just leave it at that.

On topic: Random rp is win. A Plot committee like council is good in theory but I really think its just up to a guild to come up with something then find another guild or guilds to go along with it. Really these forums are a perfect place to set up what I think Mal was talking about so theres already a committee in place, people just need to use it. Anything that needs to be done behind the scenes can be after everything gets into motion.

Would be good to try and get a mass coomunity event up and planned. Community recruitment drive would be a fun thing to do. Even ic debates at New Haven or wherever else. Main thing to do is just be around. Log in spend an hour or two rping somewhere and let everyone see you're doing it.

Committee is a very strong word. I was thinking along the lines of what many of you have already voiced; a group of like-minded roleplayers willing to volunteer some time to making an event. Essentially, it would be no different from the formation of the average event. The only difference would be that the plot would go beyond one or two guilds, and apply to the community in general. While the forum is an excellent medium for us all to communicate ideas, I believe a great deal of the "surprise factor" is lost. In my opinion, great events are characterized by everyone, GMs included, being unprepared for what comes next.

In general, I would love to roleplay with all of you in game, but outside of the standard tavern night. Personally, I would love to see some events that possess the power to draw in a large group of people to work towards a common goal. Bottom line, I want to RP with you good folk some more!

My advice then would be to just do it. Make the plots, speak to who you need to speak to, post notices in the Great Assembly about when and where the events will be taking place, throw it on the calendar inviting the wider community to participate. It's something that the guild-masters, on a night where their guild has nothing going on should and probably will encourage.

Well I really just used committee keeping with the spirit of the thread thus far. What I meant was these forums are a perfect place to bring your ideas and bounce them off people. Then when you like what you see run with it. Figure out who else wants to get involved and move along with the behind the scenes stuff through icq or whatever else.

And generally just everything else Darrien was saying above.
*blinks*

But yeah would love to rp with everyone else to. Random or otherwise doesnt matter heh.
