He took a deep breath and fell to his knees in front of the shrine of sacrifice. Reflecting upon the journey he had taken he knew this was the final part. Every muscle in his body had been tested upon his travels; this time spent away was that of personal reflection. Thoughts of his purpose in this world troubled his mind and he knew that clarity was needed.

What will I do now? Now that this pilgrimage is almost over…” He thought to himself as he sat in meditation.

A light breeze blew over his head and the flowers danced in the wind. He was dressed only in a grey robe and carried a dagger given to him by his mentor. Slowly he held the dagger up before him and pressed the tip into his hand. Perfectly he drew the shape of a teardrop, the symbol of sacrifice into his hand. He waited until his entire hand was covered in blood. Then he stood and pressed his hand against the shrine whispering,

I bleed for you… as you bleed for me.”

Winzo, Lord Templar of Sanctus retracted his hand from the shrine and almost instantaneously it healed. All the blood ran off his hand onto the shrine and only a scar shaped like a tear remained.

Sacrifice… sacrifice is the answer.” He whispered almost silently to himself.

Winzo sat back down in front of the shrine, entering another deep state of meditation. He remembered the oath he took to the king. His word and his life were devoted to Sanctus, devoted to virtue, devoted to fighting for virtue. This was his sacrifice; this is what he needed to do.

A few days later he stormed into Sanctus, valiantly displaying his old uniform. He was greeted by the young prince Vian Skyfire who said to him, “Why have you returned Lord Templar?”

Quickly and confidently he spoke, saying, “To fight sire, to fight for Virtue.”

Later that evening, Winzo attended a Protectorate meeting. Boring as usual he thought to himself, he never like meetings nor politics. He stood in front of Castle Blackguard as the sky darkened and down the road came Ivory Skyfire. She did not see him and bumped into him.

Oh.” She said.

Good evening.” He responded.

A quizzical look appeared on her face, followed by a giant smile.

Lord Winzo! It is glorious to hear your voice again!”

She extended her arms towards Winzo and he embraced her. Once more Winzo thought about his travels. He had been gone for so long and endured an incredible journey. Finally he felt at home again and it was as if he had never left…
