Artius Windom, Artius Windom. The name was so familiar. Why? He had just overheard two citizens of Moonglow discussing the name. It bothered him that he could not place where he knew the name. They spoke of him as having recently arrived in Moonglow.

He sat at his desk. Why couldn't he remember where that name came from? He stood up, walked over to his book shelf, and pulled a book off of the shelf.

"This is the rarest of all things that came out of the fall of Magincia!" he thought to himself.
The book was small, red covered with a beautiful brown edging. He sat it down on the desk, then slowly lowered himself into the chair.

As he opened the front cover, he read the first line of the first page aloud. "The History of Purity and the Rise of the Humanis Empire, by Drake Wyntermore." He began to flip through the book. He would stop and small paragraphs. In his mind, he imagined he was there, sitting in Magincia, with all the great men and women of Humanis. As he read on, he saw a list of those considered to be the most pure of all the Humanis idealists. He scanned over the list. Men who he had considered heroes were listed.

Drake Wyntermore

Cecil

Isk

Mark Randerstill

Mazuki

Hector

Cuthbert

Gohan...

He let out an audible gasp! There it was! The name! Artius Windom! Right there, listed among the most pure of Humanis idealists. "Yes! YES!" he shouted. A man of Humanis, one of the original idealists, right here, in Moonglow! His hands shook with excitement. He stoop up and began pacing around the room. "I must meet him, I must talk to him. What would I say?" he mumbled aloud to no one in particular. "Calm down, Samon. If you talk to him in this state, he will think of you as a bumbling fool!" He sat down at his desk again. Pulling out a sheet of paper, a quill, and some ink, he began to pen a letter.

=======================================================================

Artius Windom;

You may not know who I am, but I do know of you. You were one of the founding idealists of the Humanis Cause. One who I would be honored if he would answer the following questions for me regarding the Cause.

First question, are you disappointed to see how all the work you invested into the Cause has dwindled down to a few hidden men and women scattered through out the lands?

Seeing the Magnate Isk in the current state he is, interacting and ruling with non-humans, does this bring disappointment? I know from what I have read over the years, I held a high regard to the Magnate. However, in meeting with and dealing with him on a political, I felt sadly disappointed and almost dejected.

My final question is simply, I would be honored and blessed to be able to meet with you. A man of your stature and ideals are few and far between. It would be my honor to be able to sit down and discuss the Cause with you. I have many ideas and thoughts that I am anxious and excited to share with you.

Hold Humanis High!

Samon Triest

Artius cracked a smile as he read over the letter. Thoughts of days passed paraded through his mind and tears began streaming down his face. He shook his head and took a quill to parchment.

“Dear Mr. Triest,

It does good to hear of people who know of the Cause. Since you took the time to find me, I shall do my best to reply to your questions.

First, the rise of the half-breeds and apostate vampires has driven our people underground, but they are not dead and gone. The Cause that we gave our hearts and souls to remains strong in those lucky enough to be touched by it. I have no disappointment because we are underground. The only disappointment I have is that half-breeds and other foul beasts have begun walking upright and speaking in large numbers. The evil elves of old have mutated into a whole assortment of creatures that taint our great human world.

As far as once-Magnate Isk, he has fallen away from our flock. He has become the slime that he once stood against. I will no longer speak of him and his falling away from the Cause. He is dead to me and many others.

Lastly, I will meet with you. There is much to discuss, Mr. Triest.

Hold Humanis High!

Sincerely,
Artius Windom”
