Half-Ear stumbled into Sanctus, beat up, bedraggled, pads of his feet raw. He fell on the doorstep of Ivory's home, more dead than alive. The note securely attached to the harness he still wore.

Mr Malic, Miss Ivory had me write this for her. We are trapped in Skara Brae. We can not get out; the snow is fieresome. The drifts keep piling up faster than I can move it. It is all I can do to keep the doorway free. I hope you are reading this and can come help. I won't tell Miss Ivory but the food is getting low and I don't know how much longer the wood will hold out. And the townsfolk are losing hope. I pray you are reading this.

Malic read the letter as he had read Duchess Molly's. Concern filled him. Not only were his allies entrapped but his Mayor and his closest friend were entrapped. "How could Skara Brae be so engulfed in such snow. Tis near the center of the world where it is warmest?" Malic thought aloud. "Send word to the Lord Commander, ready the soldiers, we go to Skara Brae today to launch a rescue attempt," He loudly stated to a guard.

"The Protectorate meets this eve, we will ask for volunteers to assist us and go on our way"
