“Come I have just the place in mind.” Vian had said in response to Cyrus’s suggestion that Vian lead the way to a private area they could speak at. Cyrus fell into step behind his fast moving cousin. He led him around the back of Hanses Hostel and into the forest. Sighing a bit Cyrus stopped a moment and checked his boots to make sure none of the snow on the ground would find its way inside and entered into the forest trying to catch up with the pace Vian had set moments ago. It wasn’t long until they came to a clearing in the forest. Cyrus stood a moment looking at the huge tree that stood in the middle of this clearing. Little motes of light swirled around the branches and every now and then Cyrus could see small figures dart around the tree. Vian spoke and snapped Cyrus from the trance he had entered into watching all of the activity. “The Pixies here protect this place.. Anyone with evil intentions are attacked by them on sight.” Vian ended by sweeping his hand in a gesture that encompassed the clearing. Stepping forward Vian again began to move. Following, Cyrus asked “How do the Pixies know who have evil intentions?” Shrugging slightly Vian responded by saying “My father told me about this place.” While that hadn’t really answered the question Cyrus decided to let it go at that.

The two walked up to near the base of the tree. Picking out a rock from the stone circle surrounding it Vian took a seat. Cyrus at first looked for a rock to sit on but decided to stand instead. “So what was it you wanted to discuss Cousin?” he asked. “The Lord Commander.. Has been acting strange lately.”
Frowning a bit Cyrus let him continue. “First it was a meeting I just happened upon he was talking to a pair of very shady fellows. I didn’t really think to much of it at the time but then during drill he said we’d be escorting Umbrans through Sanctus lands. It really started making me think. Then when he said he’d be attending a celebration for some Umbrans return that was just the final straw.” Sighing slightly Cyrus put on a patient face when he looked over at Vian. “Perhaps you are onto something” Cyrus said to placate him. “Here’s what I’ve been thinking. We need to figure out how the Umbrans are controlling him.” Not really liking Vian suddenly including him in his plans Cyrus decided he would let it pass for the moment, now a little intrigued more then anything . “What exactly did you have in mind?” was his question. “Well we need to find a magic user but just not any magic user.. We need a powerful one.” Vian stated then added “Also one not from Sanctus”. Turning to face Cyrus as he ended. Nodding to him Cyrus spoke next. “Where would you find one strong enough?” He asked. “That’s just it I have no idea where to start.” Casting a disheartened look at Cyrus as he said this. Smiling inwardly Cyrus was careful not to let his humor show as he said. “Well what about asking somebody who might know of a powerful mage?” Smiling almost instantly Vian seemed to brighten at the question. “The Duchess Molly! My father used to talk about her sometimes. I’m sure she will know who I can ask!” He said as he stood up in his excitement. Turning to follow Vians movements Cyrus saw him just about ready to run from the clearing. “You should keep this as quiet as possible though Vian. You could be getting worked up over nothing, perhaps this is just a big coincidence.” Cyrus had to add voicing his opinion from an argument the two young men had had the night Davaran had decided to attend the party. Nodding Vian let Cyrus continue. “Still you may be on to something.” He finished by turning to face the trunk of the tree once more. “I will cousin. Are you ready to return to the city?” Vian asked. “No, I will follow shortly.” Cyrus responded, and stood there listening to Vians fading footsteps.

Looking down Cyrus picked one of the flowers from a patch that was growing under the tree. Placing it into the vines he stepped back looking at it as it sat there held up by them. Smiling sadly, thoughts of his mother foremost in his mind he turned from the tree and left the clearing wondering if he had done the right thing.
