An overwhelming smell of fresh meat pie and honey cake filled the air at the Horse's Head as I stepped in from the cold night air. I scanned the area slowly, seeking the one I had searched for; for so long now. I had a reliable resource that had told me they had seen, the one I so vividly described, here in Jhelom.
And then there she was, sitting all by herself on a bench at an oak table. I wasn't quite sure how it could be, after all this time, but it was. "Maybe it's fate." Betrayed my lips as I stood before her, that face was the one that haunted my nightmares. She had dark red hair and alabaster skin. She jumped at the sound of my voice, staring skittishly at me like a fawn in the presence of a panther. "Huh... Wha?" Is all she could muster out.
It was good that she was afraid. It meant that she in some way could actually feel some sort of pain. Pain she would feel for what she did to my family. And it was more than fate that she had been her, it was cold calculation. "Maybe its fate, that there is an open seat across from the most beautiful woman in the tavern." That was a lie, however, to my surprise I managed to make my voice sound sincere.
She quickly motioned to the bench with a gloved hand, underneath that covering I knew what I would find. I would find the star on the hand that drove the spear into my shoulder, pinning me to the wall that fateful night that my little Shane, and my lovely Malory were stolen from me. That was alright though, just tonight it was alright. For I knew that I would bring justice to them and vengeance would be mine.
"You look familiar..." I said and we exchanged pleasantries. "I am being hunted." She said in a hushed tone after we were finished with the niceties. "I'm tired of running though, tired of the nightmares. I'm ready for this to all be over with. I know it will end soon. I just know it." It will be over sooner than you know. Slithered across my mind. "Someone's hunting you?" I asked softly... |

Jez shook with fright she hugged her arms around her as the mans hood lowered. It was he... Balour, the man from her dreams. The man whose family had been destroyed that night. If only she could remember the hideous things she did. Maybe it was best her frenzied hunger had driven her mad and she had awoken covered in blood unknowing.
Balour was looking for her, the one that had been left alive and she didnt understand why. She remembered idly trying to pull a spear from the mans shoulder and being dragged away. It made no sense, if she had killed his family, why would she spare him? She really didnt understand.. Jez was not a killer, she had no want to destroy. Yet she couldnt deny her need for blood that horrid night so long ago, to be repaid by her now as they both stood here...
Innocent blue eyes, pale face, and red hair, she begged him kill her now. Be done with the nightmares and torture of so long. So when the spear, mahogony and sin, pierced her frail shoulder, pushing thru her body and hanging her to the wall, she did not fight back. Her eyes shut calmly, waiting for the killing blow...
It never came.... He was upset a peice to the puzzle was missing, a scar in the shape of a star upon her hand, there was none...
At this moment, things changed, quite a bit, for he was distracted by someone else. A new redhead had arrived on the scene and Balour turned from Jez.
There was a commotion, but the pain in Jez's shoulder was horrendous and she pulled it with the last bit of her strength. No longer impaled against tavern wall, she tumbled, a heap of blood and tears, the floor swallowing her up. She heard the fight grow louder, the roar of angry voices in her ears, a woman like a snake was speaking. To weak to implore, unconciousness came swiftly, and she could only wilt in a pile on the tavern floor.
Her shock was great when she awakened in the tavern alive and alone. A stranger helped her to a bed at the nearest inn, and her confused mind fell into rest and repair shutting out confusion for now. Balour was nowhere to be found, she felt in her heart he was no longer hunting her, and the relief filled her with questions perhaps never answered. She whispered soflty unto no one, good luck to you Balour...may the pain of the past leave us both. |

I could feel her breath, hot against my neck. Her fangs hovering with anticipation above my skin as she spoke in a hiss, "You were supposed to kill her you fool." I wanted to look over my shoulder, but that voice was all too familiar. The sharp point of a sword was pressed hard against my back, and then a bare hand was waved in front of my face from behind me. On it was the brand of a star.
"It was you!!!" I howled angrily. How am I going to get out of this situation? "Yes, I killed your family, and you were supposed to kill my clueless, beloved sister for me... But, it seems I will have to kill you both now." As she babbled on, I quickly spun off from her blade and drew my kamas in a flash of steel. As I turned and faced her, to my surprise, she looked exactly like Jezebel, save for the armor that she had on. "Why Corina?" Jezebel whispered softly.
As I darted toward her she leaped over the counter and busted out the door. I set a hard pace to even see where she was going. She ran hard towards the coast, stumbling over a fallen branch here and there, and I was quickly gaining on her. We stayed close to the coast and she popped into the an old deserted guard tower. I watched from the distance, creeping up slowly to the large log structure.
A sharp wind blew cold air and sent a shiver down my spine. The door to the tower hung on old rusty hinges that squeaked loudly. *thud-thud-thud-thud-thud* I heard her scurrying up the stairs. I sheathed my kamas and drew Silver. The warfork gleamed brightly, like a lantern in the heart of darkness. I slowly walked into the dark tower and soon found the stairs she had ran up. I walked around her muddy tracks and soon found myself atop of the guard tower.
Cold fat rain drops pounded against the roof. A slight stench of mildew and rust filled the air of the old turret. The old wood floor creaked on the upstairs as I stalked the red headed wench. Lightning lit up the room from outside an old window pane, revealing the target of my strife. Water was dripping from her armor and her fiery red hair was matted to her head, a look of unadulterated anger was on her face as I stood in her presence. Then for a moment she just smiled, her eyes completely void of emotion as her devilish grin never reached them.
"So, lets do this dance then." She snarled as she bull rushed towards me, her longsword aimed for my chest. I dropped into an eased stance preparing for the onslaught, Silver poised and ready to strike. The harlot wasted no time in her maneuvering. The instant she was in range she swung her blade for my neck. Her strike was quickly answered with a hard no as Silver swept her sword away from my head. We danced back and forth atop the tower, striking and countering in an undulated fashion.
I put my best effort forth and tried attack after attack to pierce her, but she was as fast as a viper. Corina bent backwards dodging my attempt to penetrate her chest, she countered with an arching upwards swing that ripped through my armor and gashed my left shoulder. A new cut to match the scar on my right shoulder, that she had given me oh so long ago. The wound would slow me down eventually, but I felt as if I could fight this one all night long. I'll fight until I have Justice for my Malory and Shane. Even if it kills me, vengeance will be mine. If the wench was going to die, then it would have to be soon.
Again she tried to take my head as she swung with a great might, and again she was stopped short by the head of Silver. She pressed hard against my own strength and shoved me back with all her force. I drew a throwing knife from my wide leather belt as I glided backwardly through the air. *THUD* I crashed hard against the floor. I heard a scream and looked up with a smirk. The throwing knife had hit its mark, and was deep in her wrist. *cling-chang Her sword fell to the ground. At that moment I knew that it was time. My fingers wrapped tightly around the haft of Silver as I kip upped. "Women should never lead in dancing." I said with a confident smirk as I charged at her.
Silver bit deeply into her chest when I crashed into her, knocking her back. Corina stared down at her chest holding onto the handle of the warfork. Lightning flashed through the window and thunder clapped over head, and in those brief moments I quickly drew the kamas from their belt loop homes. Corina looked surprised as her body and life departed her.
*thud-kerplank*
I bent over and grabbed her wrist, I examined the star brand slowly before taking her hand. I dropped a boot on her shoulder and broke Silver free from the prison of Corina's chest. When Silver was finally safe in his home I pulled a clear vial with the golden scales of Justice on it. "Expor Flamus." I said softly, as I poured the water out on the corpse. Soon the room was illuminated with a bright red glow as the remains of the fiend from my nightmare cooked.
Only one thing left to do... "Time to visit Justice..." |
