Happy to help. I do really like the idea of an anything goes tournament, I just think that with a few careful considertions here and there it could benefit that much more from it.

I suppose with your view of gift of life it may not be entirely unreasonable that if they have the skill available to them and can make it work than maybe it is feasible, though I'm still torn on it with such things as hiding for long periods of time being allowed. I don't have a problem with hiding, but than it doesnt really make it that difficult to recover from using GoL.

Two soldiers away from their army is an interesting way to look at it, can't say I ever thought of it that way. I myself just hold the opinion I do on pre battle buffs because I almost do see a certain amount of class involved in duels.

Not that dueling with pre battle buffs is class-less, but more so I see dueling wihtout them as part of a traditionally respected challenge between two individuals. A rite of passage initiated to settle something. In the case of a tournament or in training its never really something we do over a disagreement, but then why do we go to tournaments? For fun, for the experience, for rewards and glory? I think most people get a combination of these things out of attending tournaments.

If I can beleive that, than I would simply further suggest that when you are dueling someone, you are initiating and accepting a mutual challenge, to determine who shall continue, who shall prevail, who shall become the champion.

And to make a long point a short one: Seems to me you'd feel all the more that you deserve the title of champion when all is said and done, if without a doubt in front of all that would bare witness, you earned it from the ground up.

Good point on the hiding/stealth and then Gift of Life trick. However, that is 300 or so skillpoints, leaving 400 more for your offense and defense. If someone has honestly worked out an effective hiding/stealthing/spellweaving template, then this would be a good defensive tactic for them that I wouldn't really want to take away.

And hiding for long periods of time... well, I had imagined maybe 30 seconds or so tops. I don't want people to stealth and then just sit there until the other person forfeits. So 30 seconds seems like a reasonable amount of time.

The Gift of Life issue is of course up for discussion still, though. Depending upon the feedback, it may just be disallowed.

As for the pre-battle buffs, I see what you mean. I'll need more feedback on this before I hammer out a firm rule.
