Real life parallel, Taliban are evil. I fight them IRL. They are evil. However, they believe they are protecting their way of life, their religion, their lands. After talking to supporters of its regime they think everyone else is an evil, non-believing, infidel.
As a society we condemn them (I agree with that). But as a society they condemn us.
RP stand point, Vampire, orcs, undead, brigands, pirates or anything else evil is just trying to better themselves as a society. Good guys misunderstand it as evil, when it is just the struggle for power between 2 groups that are diametrically opposed.
I shouldn't have added pirates cause when the side of good wants to use their skills they turn them into privateers. Funny _________________ If there are any problems with me or the Giovanni, please contact 326-187-680 |

In Oldscale's eyes, vampires are not like normal undead, as they are capable of thought, and individualism. Unlike Liches, they are not always evil. |

Jonathan Strathmore is in the simplest sense a Nazi. He strives for the master race to rule the world. A master race he sees as a perfect hybrid between Vampires and Lycans. His goal is all that is important to him and he is willing to do anything for it.
That being said, Jonathan Strathmore is an evil man. However, he believes he is doing the greatest good. Evil is not something that can be defined on an ooc basis and applied to an entire race or sub-culture.
Can I truly say "Are Humans evil? or is it just those that choose to do evil things?" I don't think the question you're asking can be answered. It all depends on your characters. |

This is a difficult question to answer, as it revolves around how your vampire is roleplayed, and if we are going off of the average atlantic roleplayer view of 'evil' or off of a more Ultima view of 'evil'. I mean, I could roleplay a vampire who carries the unholy affliction of needing candy to live and the only weakness he has is when he is presented with Hello Kitty merchandise by one of strong faith instead of a holy symbol, and the players of Atlantic might find him downright cute.
In all seriousness though, if -I- were to play a vampire on present day atlantic, he would be, at BEST, true neutral, and at worst, some form of evil. Why? Because I would think that being viewed as something that needs to be destroyed would rather limit his sympathy with non-vampires. Also, blood is EVERYTHING; I would assume that a freshly turned vampire would have a harder time controlling it, which would prevent me from a lawful style of roleplay.
And yes, I would prefer a more freshly turned vampire; it is a problem on Atlantic that people like to look at the Archmage and make an Archmage instead of making an apprentice and learning their way up, wanting to be a master samurai and making a master samurai instead of being a student, wanting to be a super lich and making a super lich instead of roleplaying the transformation and all the events leading up to it. So, along those lines, I wouldn't be interested in making a super-elder vampire of doom that has everything under control. Booooring. |

On the contrary to that, playing Jon Strathmore is a lot of fun... But there is a good deal of role play behind the plot that made it so he needed to be a "super-elder vampire of doom" instead of allowing me to play him freshly turned. Stay tuned. |

Yes in a stereotypical mindset vampires are evil. They have always been stereotyped as such.
and
"or just trying to better their landholdings, society, culture and unlife? And do they have a right to prosper"
That would be Umbra. We strongly support this. Join us. |

None of the options. It's a character to character basis. What defines evil? Going against the social norm? If it's being purely chaotic and serving oneself before anything, then perhaps most are. But then, I'd say most vampires don't think they're "Evil", they just go and do what they want without regard to others (except perhaps people they have interest in, such as kin). But even then, there are a few vampires that are interested in helping people in need. |

I've always championed the mindset that being one thing or possessing one skill does not by default make one evil.
Necromancy does not make you evil.
Vampirism does not make you evil.
Lichdom does not make you evil.
In my eyes these are simply facts of an rp existance. They are tools, they are for lack of a better word, entity.
I would simply say that to be a vampire is no different than to be a human or an orc. It isn't a race per say, but it still isn't overly different.
It is a good point that they do require blood, and I immagine the effects of vampirism *having to drink blood, or doign it and living for lifetime after lifetime* could be quite maddening or confusing. In all likeliness, I immagine most vampires would become evil. But I wouldn't ever say they should be.
A just man who upholds the virtues and is transformed, well, is the same man with a new struggle.
The bottom line is:
Choice. _________________ "You see I can not be forsaken, because I'm not the only one. We walk amongst you, beating, r#ping, must we hide from everyone?" - Jon Davis |

I have to agree with Norture on this one. I can truthfully say I don't view my vampire as evil. It really depends on the vampire. I've seen super evil chaotic vampires who love to torture and cause harm (love ya Shade), and then, others who really have no desire to harm others past getting blood. |

I would suggest this as reading material. It is located in our community standards.

This is not gospel.
You are from a different time and space compared to the time and space of Atlantic shard so your roleplay of vampires can be different since you do not share the same history as Atlantic.
That is the benefit of roleplay. Things can be added and others that play will adjust. _________________ Grand Duchess Molly Kaldhel
