Beowulf sat comfortably in his home, located in Umbra. His wife, Audrina, was downstairs in their bedroom. She hadn't come out in quite a while. His feet rested on top of a wooden chest, his legs stretched out from his comfortable sitting position. The fire crackled quietly a few feet in front of him. He sighed quietly and began to talk out loud, to himself.
Right about now, the Governor-Regent and his "party" of company should be arriving in the Northlands. I find myself however, sitting here instead of the Headquarters that I helped build. It was a tough decision whether or not I go or stay, I was for that matter, the one who invited him. It's been brought to my attention, more than once, that the Governor fancy's Vaen over myself. I got an assistance reply letter to my invitation. Where Vaen was given a personal letter from the Governor himself stating the time he'd be free to come. Amusing, how that works. Perhaps the Governor has a sore memory, to forget or to be so ignorant enough, to write the wrong person a response.
Vaen is confident that he can show Adrien that the Northland prospers. We've done so much, in such a short amount of time. Our military is not yet trained. Our troops are not yet familiar with our drills and tactics. The citizens have but merely started gathering resources for trades and helping shop owners reopen, after the war. We've gathered some of the greatest minds in Sosaria. Past leaders of large organizations, some of the finest soldiers and a few skill craftsmen and women.
I leave it to my co-consul tonight to impress Adrien. To keep the Protectorate off our backs and to show them we have done, and will do nothing but prosper the Northlands. More than several of the Republic were born and raised in Minoc or Vesper. Some of us who served in the Legion patrolled Minoc and looked over it for years. Vesper was graciously taken under my wing, even though I am not a son of Vesper, it will not sway my benevolent hand. The Governor-Regent prefers Vaen and so I will leave the two of them to deal with each other. I will not stress my mind, nor will I waste my time with a smooth taking Tyrant.
Beowulf rubbed his hands together and yawned quietly. He heard a noise from downstairs and slowly stood up. It was about time to see what Audrina had been up to all night. |

Braelyn sat in boredom at the dinner table, staring around exchanging smiles and dirty looks with the others. Vaen seemed much more tense then usual, in fact everyone there did. She held firmly onto the small lycan doll in her lap with one hand and with the other she picked up her chicken and bit into it.
Three men sat at the far end of the table, each sitting in their seats with their heads in the air. Braelyn found it odd that they were all so picky with their food, which only made her want to eat more.
Nothing said was of much importance to her; she just liked to be around the others. Alessandra sat to her left and a man with a blue cap sat to her right. One man across the table seemed nervous and after a bit of time he left. She saw the opportunity as a chance for her to grab a pie from the near by table.
As she stuck her finger into the pie she heard one of the men say something about the Lycans. Her ears perked up with interest, but she quickly found that they did not share the same interest as her in the creatures.
“There have been reports of Lycan attacks on Sanctus, which is why we are determined to exterminate them or at least drive them back towards the Umbra boundaries.” One man spoke.
”By “we” he means Sanctus, of course. I only wish that they register themselves.” Another man retorted.
She quickly pushed the small plush Lycan behind her back. They seemed quite intent on their displeasure with them. Her small finger continued to dip in the pie.
”Why don’t they like Lycans, Aunt Aless?” She whispered over to Alessandra.
Alessandra quickly shook her head in a motion for Braelyn to be quiet, but leaned over to give a short response, ”One must have hurt someone important and now they think they are all dangerous.”
Braelyn was confused. She didn’t quite understand the political conversation going on around her, but she did know that she should probably keep her cherished Lycan doll kept from plain sight, at least until the guests left.
As the conversation grew more intense, she grew more bored and more tired. She wished her father would have been there and before she knew it she were asleep. |

Audrina shut the heavy doors to the bedroom behind her, making sure each one was locked. Beowulf had spoke of Adrien’s visit to the Northland Republic and knew that he was to dine there this evening. Certainly, Beowulf would not miss such an occasion, nor would he allow his young, impressionable daughter to either.
It had been some time since she last tried to see and hear what was going on around her youngest daughter. Her hands were unsteady as she slid the bracelet onto her wrist, but she knew tonight was a better night than any.
Audrina’s own sight and hearing left rather quickly, but just as she expected it took some time for Braelyn’s to come into focus. When it did, she could see Alessandra, Vaen and another unknown woman.
”My name is Aless and who are you young one?”
”Brae and I’m not young.”
”Well, you are younger than me.”
The eyes of the doll faced towards the fireplace, but she could hear the voices clearly. The two carried on their conversation, until what sounded like a crowd of people entered the room.
”Braelyn, upstairs.”
The scenery began to change as Braelyn walked towards the dining hall.
The table obstructed most of the sight of the Lycan eyes, as it sat in Braelyn’s lap. However, Audrina could make out some of the people. She saw Alessandra, Vaen, Dori mixed in with a few unfamiliar faces. Out of the corner of the right eye she could make out Adrien, Talon and Isk. She laughed to herself, thinking of What an interesting night this will be.
One person was missing from the table. Beowulf. She felt herself panic slightly, but immediately reminded herself that he may just be out of view.
The conversation seemed long as each man exchanged their own policies. Shortly after the mention of the extermination of Lycans her vision went dark. Audrina immediately understood and did her best to just listen.
”You must understand why I do not trust you.” She heard one of the men speak. ”As much as I am pleased Tarothin is out of the way, I still see that what you did was dishonorable. You swore an oath to him and no sooner stabbed him in the back.”
The next voice was familiar and she knew it was Vaen, ”I swore no oath to that man and if I did not do what I did he could still be out there killing innocent people.”
She felt her heart begin to race. Nothing said so far had been of much importance, just a group of men squabbling over petty issues. She was very surprised that she hadn’t heard her husband speak up on any of the matters, but decided that his distaste for Adrien made him ignore the entire situation. She could feel her breathing growing heavy and she knew it was time she stopped. With her left hand she pulled the bracelet off and feeling for the table she set it down.
It was dark and quiet now. No longer did she have Braelyn’s senses, nor did she have her own. She felt around her to familiarize herself and stood to make her way to the bed. She knew the best thing she could do was just lay down and wait for her hearing and sight to return.
Just as she lay down she could feel someone reach for her arm. She jumped slightly, but was unsure of what to do. Out of first instinct she grabbed for the person.
”Who is it?” What a stupid question, she had no sense of hearing or sight. She felt up the arm and towards the face. She could tell it was her husband and relaxed slightly, but still was in a panic.
”Beo, I am fine. I am fine. Just stay with me. Hold me.”
She tried to avert him from worrying and curled up into his arm. She could only imagine what was going through his mind or better yet, what he could possibly be saying to her.
”I’m fine. Don’t worry.” She tried to comfort him and immediately ran over in her mind how she was going to explain this when her vision and hearing finally returned. _________________ Darrien_Church: he asked what was the church of england based on

”I am fine. Really. Just stay with me. I am fine.” Audrina continued to repeat herself in hopes her voice could at least calm Beowulf down. It was easy to lose track of time and after a while it felt as if she had been in his arms repeating herself forever.
After what seemed like an eternity she stopped speaking and immediately felt Beowulf move. His hands slid beneath her as she felt her body lift from the bed.
”What are you doing?” Another pointless question she knew she would find no answer to. ”Beowulf, put me back into the bed. Please.”
Her mind raced as she knew he must be panicked. Where could he be taking me? Perhaps to find Ceinwyn or Merci. Maybe a healer.
The cold air hit her skin and sent a shiver through her spine. Just as the cold hit her body she felt her senses coming back. Small shafts of light entered her vision and she could hear Beowulf’s frantic breathing.
Her hands reached for his face as she looked at him. ”Put me down and let us go back inside.”
Beowulf looked at her in shock, for hours he stared at his mute and deaf wife worried and now she returned to normal. She needed to ease his mind, but she knew the truth would never suffice.
Slowly his face came into clear focus and his voice was not longer distorted.
”Aud-“ He began to speak, but Audrina quickly stopped him, ”Shh. I’ll explain, but can we please just go inside first.”
She sat him down on the bed and paced upon the floor. Beowulf, not being a very patient man refused to hold his tongue any longer.
”Audrina, What is going on?”
”I..” She looked at him with pleading eyes, unsure herself what lie she was about to conjure up.
”As your husband I demand you tell me! Do you know what you just put me through? I thought you were --- I don’t know what I thought you were, but you scared me.”
”If I tell you something, you must not repeat it to anyone. You have spoke of love and trust for some time now and this is your time to prove your trust. Can I trust you?”
”Of course!”
”I do not know what is wrong with me or what has been happening, but I have been experiencing blackouts out of no where. There seems to be no cause and some times they last longer than other.” She looked quickly at his eyes to see if he were buying her lie. It seemed as if he were unsure what to think and she quickly added something to please him, ”I have yet to even tell the Matriarchs.”
Beowulf loved being put before the Matriarchs, as they were his sole competition. She noticed his eyes soften and went to his lap. ”I am sorry if you were worried, but I am fine. I will be fine.”
She kissed his forehead. ”I am exhausted. Let us sleep and talk more of this in the morning.” _________________ Darrien_Church: he asked what was the church of england based on
