A letter is delivered to the Prince's Tower.

Zarlox,

Brother, our little ruse with the so-called "Northlanders", went well last night (Though like you, I find it amusing that they call themselves that when you and I were born in Minoc before there was even a Trammel and they were yet twinkles in their fathers eyes and I doubt most of them are from the area). Spawn and Vaen were too professional to let their personal feelings shine through, but the lack of discipline from their troops was easily seen when we acted towards them with uncouth behavior. They are merely the Dark Order with less courage and a new uniform since they do not let their true intentions be known. At least Tarothin did not shirk from who and what he was.

I was not impressed with Vaens wooden smile and empty platitudes. If his "tour" was not an insult to those gathered (odd to get a detailed tour of cities that have been around for years and where we were just battling the fools at), then he is grossly incompotent. He can try to justify his betrayal of Tarothin all he wants saying that "Tarothin gave me the cape, but I never wore it", but actions speak louder than words. He is obviously a power-hungry tyrant who will stab anyone in the back to get what he wants. How he can find it logical that he joined the would-be conquerors of Minoc to "bring peace", is laughable. Perhaps he is so arrogant that he believes everyone around him does not see who he is. Or perhaps he is so shamed by his actions and inconsitent behaviors that he believes his own lies. Regardless, as long as we see him for who he is, we will not be fooled. It will be interesting to see where he attacks next in the "name of peace".

Spawn is also a cause for alarm. I find it strange that he would join Vaens cause after the "demon" left him. Do you also find it strange that he would join the allies of the hated "demon" host? I would think he would have joined his allies and family in Sanctus. Perhaps the demon is not truly gone? Perhaps there was no demon, and we have all been fooled by a fractured mind's theatrical tricks amplified by his magical skills? I have not spoken to Spawn for several years, but I find it inconsistent with what you told me he has done for the Order, that after being freed from his demons captivity that he would join his nemesis' allies and not his family. There must be more to this story then meets the eye. We shouldn't lose hope for him yet, he was always a gentle soul when I knew him in days gone past.

The other Consul, Beowulf, was not at the dinner, but from my brief interactions with the man I believe him to be a man of integrity. I believe the lads feelings for Vaen are clouding his judgement, or Vaen is just manipulating him. Then again, maybe I am just being biased. It will take more looking into.

Regardless, I believe I played the part of "Senile Old Man", well that night. The more they dismiss us as old fools, the better for us. I know you have your reputation to look out for, but I do not have that problem. If they believe the king's guardian is incompotent, all the better. Their arrogance will be their downfall, as it was before.

Also, an interesting note is that the Factions are allowed to battle in Vesper and Minoc. They said they "have it under control", but how much control does one have if they let war touch their city? I find their words less than impressive, and their actions resoundingly clear. They should learn to let their actions speak louder for them than their words.

Consider this my official report from the proceedings. If I think of anything else, we shall discuss it later.

Your brother,
Ragnar Teach
