Having a tamer that I do PvP with, I have to say that I agree with this rule. Unless clearly defined by the ROE I feel that we as a community should be able to use any in game mechanics to win in a combat situation, without cheating or exploiting those mechanics. To force players to limit themselves and prohibit the use of skills that they have spent many hours practicing would be Godmoding in the extreme.

My tamer has three skill slots devoted to taming, lore and vet skills. That is half of his available skill points. To force him to fight without pets would be pretty much a death sentence in a combat situation, although he is also Paladin archer, and can fight without pets, he lacks Tactics and Anatomy and healing skills, so would be an easy kill.

He will compete in the Tourney, and he will use Pet Summoning balls. He will compete in battles and has in the past.

I would like to point one thing out, and this has happened to me several times in the past. If you attack a tamer who has pets ON SCREEN, don't cry cheating if their pets automatically defend their tamer. I have told my pets to stay, get attacked and then the pets still go after my attacker. Just keep that in mind if you have an issue fighting a tamer and his pets. If they are on screen and you attack game mechanics will make them attack you in defense of their owner.

Conversely, the very act of dragon-use (or any other large/powerful creature) in the RP community is extreme godmodding as well. Considering that dragons are smart enough to cast high level spells, dispel whatever they want and can kick major amounts of ass, it should be clear that they would not be content to sit in a tamers stall until you thought it convienient to use them. Unless you take your high level pets EVERYWHERE, RP with them (within reason, since obviously they don't talk back) I really don't need to take a tamer's RP very seriously, now do I?

My Orc (and one of my human chars) talks to his weapons regularly. This is because they are emblems of power and respect to them. This is, of course, strange as these items have no actual conscious mind (and I never RP them as actually having such). You better believe that the powerful creatures have actual minds, and chances are, they are quite intelligent. Unless you are making a point of involving your pet in RP (something I never see happening in this day and age*, mind you), not just treating the animal like a dog, that comes and goes at your beck and call, then I don't see why we could restrict when and where it could be used.

This is all, of course, an aside. The key point is not whether or huge/powerful creatures can be used in RP battles. Which they can. I am simply arguing against use of Balls of Summoning in areas where PC's are unable to recall/gate.

* I saw one MTCer carry around his White Wyvern recently. An Orc repeatedly challenged it to a game of fisty-cuffs, and therefore made for some fun. Whomever you were MTCer, I respect your right to bust out that WW whenever you please.
Edit in response to next post: Very well then. Daz, as an Official Zookeeper you can run around with all the pets they want, with my respect. Not that you were looking my absolute respect, but it is an awesome thing to have anyway. Anyone who can RP taking care of animals deserve props.

Yeah, but you need to feed them 15+ pieces of meat per hour, 20+ bludales, they don't respond to any command except "All Kill", they leave your control randomly and without warning. Furthermore, you can only be female to tame one. Males who attempt to tame them will drive them into a rage that often results in other Orcs being summoned from the shadows to gank you.

Loot tends to be pretty weak too.

And there's another rper out there who has a unicorn by her side at all times.. and will tell you straight out his name is Charlie and he like grapes better than apples.... she does an awesome job rp'ing that animal's relation to her character.... although maybe a unicorn is not so skery as a ww.... that is still bad-rear-end-icus rp!

Can't say I have ever met her.

If I have, she hasn't said squat to me, so I am unable to view her in all her animal handling glory.
