They tried to implement a system to detect macroers, but with how it was described, they will pick up the ones doing it without illegal programs (example being the UOA+spacebar thing described above and things like it); the system was supposed to look for patterns of data being sent with no change in the rhythm. Basically, if a human tries to push a key once a second for ten seconds, they will be off by a few milliseconds one way or the other; but a script won't be, at least not in theory. However with latency and the fact that a script of that nature would be incredibly CPU heavy, I don't think they went through with it.

They also can't do what WoW's Warden is doing; what they wanted Punkbuster to do, and that is monitor outside programs. Did you know that WoW checks every program you are running every 15 seconds, not only the title of it, the name of the exe, but also some of the guts of the file for signatures of known cheats?

I think that they finally did something akin to the anti-dupe that I've had in mind for a few years... Each item has an ID number. Well, give them all a second ID number; one that is generated when an item is given by a drop, crafted, purchased from a vendor, made from a spell, etc. That way if an item is created from another method (i.e. duping), that second ID number doesn't change, and every night at serverdown (or during character transfers / item trades), the server should search everywhere for anything with that same secondary ID number. If there are two say, barbed kits out there that are 'the same'? Bam. Might be CPU heavy, might not.

Anyways, speculation aside, I'm suprised they finally DID SOMETHING about it. Curious just what constitutes having your house blown up though... Duping seems like the most likely, but I don't know what other forms of cheating made the list.

Little update... the devs have been at work again today.

99% of the barbed kit vendors and scripted resources/runic vendors are all gone in Luna, there's about 3 barbed kits in total in all of Luna right now. Razz
