I am the GM for Shadow Walkers of Britannia. I will serve as a spy in the service of the Protectorate. I am also a member of the Thieves Guild, although I really only steal in Doom/Tokuno dungeons.
If you want any chance of revealing me for RP Purposes, you will need to War me. In trammel, you won't reveal me unless you are warred to me.
I am accepting any and all war requests. I am the only member of the guild. I am non combat, but built for intelligence gathering. I am GM Thief, Hiding, Stealth, Focus, Chiv, and soon GM Tracking, and have sufficient Ninja for shape changes. I jewel up to 120 Stealing and Stealth. I am also Elf Char, so you will be hard pressed to reveal me otherwise.
War me if you would like. Thanks. |

Welcome to Atlantic, whether you are new or not. I look forward to seeing you ingame.
If someone is going to cast reveal in an area, roleplay wise, you should reveal, warred or not. It would make for more interesting roleplay. Just felt I should throw that in, considering recent events. |

Welcome! Just FYI you could do a lot worse about enhancing your knowledge of roleplaying a stealther than to observe these pointers by Kotare:
Quote: | Hiding Tips
Ok, you can hide. Be it at the old Grandmaster level and nearly never fail...or just fail nearly constantly. It's handy to have, without it you can't really stealth. some hints and tips/guidelines follow.
1st Scenario
You're in the street, a fair few people are around, one or two are directly in front of you, they're guards, they look angry, they want to arrest you, one reaches out to grab you, you hide.... STOP there. You can’t hide when someone’s thisdamnclosetoyou maybe if there’s some space around you or there’s someone the other side of the street. I'm afraid it just shouldn't happen. Hide only when you think no one has line of site on you.
2nd Scenario
You're wandering along the street, see some guards noticing you, you panic, hide and don a disguise, good idea but with certain flaws. One the guards have noticed you, and then noticed you hide. You haven't stealthed away. You haven't moved, I know the guards may come across as stupid but someone 'appearing' where you recently disappeared just may not fool them straight away. It may even cause them to take even more notice of yourself and area you just 'vacated'.
3rd Scenario
You pop your head around a wall and notice some guards; you run back around the corner and quickly hide. They didn't notice you, as they were not looking your way. You stealth past them. They don't notice, they can't see the person who just hid around the corner as more than likely they cannot track around corners as only people with high tracking can realistically do this. Even more so when in town and on cobbles. You get past, you're safe...
4th Scenario
You're hidden and quite happily stealthing along and someone with the ever-annoying Detect Hidden skill reveals you passively, you're now in view, more often than not, with the person/people looking at you. Do you look innocent and walk away, or draw even more attention to yourself and hide instantly again? I'll leave this one to you. Overall, hiding when in plain view of people is a big no no. Use your common sense overall, go around a corner. Stand in a nook or cranny. Stand behind them. They have to use line of sight, so last I checked I never had any eyes in the back of my head and I'd be seriously worried if I saw a guard who did.
Stealthing Tips
Stealthing in Role-play is VERY handy to have; the only defense is either Tracking, Magery or Detect Hidden. If you're an Assassin, a Rogue, a Thief or just a downright sneaky bugger, it's handy to have.
To have Stealth I'll be presumptuous and say you have Hiding. Hopefully you've read the Hiding guidelines and tips too. So I won't go on about how to start off to Stealth. Just make sure when you Hide you're 'out of the way'. Then begin Stealthing. Sneak up to people. Look in their bags. If you're an Assassin, wait for the moment to strike.
If you've been Tracked when Stealthing, try to Stealth away as quickly and efficiently as possible. By efficient I mean don't reveal yourself. Go into town and "lose" the Trackers on cobblestones. If you're tracked in a wood or forest just try to get away...
If you stealth past someone with Detect Hidden, more often than not you'll be revealed. As said in the Hiding essay, do not hide immediately, or as soon as the timer let’s you. It'll bring even more attention to yourself. If you make it past someone with Detect Hidden, congratulations.
The majority of Stealth used in Role-play should be used by common sense.... hence why this essay is small *nods* |

Or just do whatever the hell the game lets you do, and let everyone else do what the game lets them do. You're planning on being warred to anyone who'll send you an invitation, so there shouldn't be any problems with people being unable to detect you. And if the people you're warred to complain when they can't detect you, then tell them to get detecting hidden. It's that simple. _________________

Well... Even with detect hidden skill I will be hard to detect. GM Hiding Legendary Stealthing. For you to detect me you have to be right on me. IM elven, and we are harder to detect, and I have very high dex which also helps in stealthing.
I have had someone with High magery cast Reveal where I was standing, adn still could not reveal me. Maybe a Legendary Mage might but an Elder will fail.
So, someone casting Reveal most likely in game will not reveal me. I have spent the time and have the skills. Sorry.
So here is the dilema, do I make myself visible if you try? I might. If you are close enough to me when you cast I might. Keep in mind, im roleplaying a spy. A good spy, a very good one. Even if you reveal me, (or i do it for you) doesnt mean you can catch me. If you are warred to me Ill let ya catch me, if ya can kill me. But I am also ninja and can shift forms. As a member of the Thieves guild, I can use disguilse kit, so don't get used to a player name. The only way you will recognize me is if IM orange to you.
Technically if i am revealed RP wise but not by game mechanics, that is METAGAMING. As far as the rules thrax showed, they are good ones, and I have already read them. |

Legendary magery alone doesn't give a very good chance to detect a good hider, if it's even possible at all. I can't find a formula for it, unfortunately, but the person casting it needs detecting hidden too.
It's the same deal for tracking: if you're trying to track someone with high hiding and stealth, you need both high tracking and high detecting hidden to track them. Stratics has a formula for this, but I'm not sure if it's still accurate:
% Chance of tracking = (Tracking + Detect Hidden + Random 1-20) / (Hiding + Stealth) * 50
I also have no idea how much more difficult elves are to track than humans. I can't find any mention of the actual numbers anywhere.
Edit: Moved colon to a happier place. _________________

it was my understanding that someone with the jack of all trades 20 tracking can track a gm stealther. _________________ "He's been fired from the Shrimp Boat?" -- Charlaine Harris "Living Dead In Dallas." |

They can. They have a chance of it, just like they have a chance of passively detecting a stealther who takes a step within a four-tile radius. I'm not sure how it works, and, again, I'm working off a tracking formula that may no longer be in use. I'm thinking that if you fail the tracking+detect check, the person's name just doesn't appear in the tracking window. _________________

Tracking skill is your best bet for detecting hidden stealthers. However, you have a very small chance at lower skill levels for detecting legendary stealthers. If you want a decent chance, you need higher skill. At lower skill levels you have to be fairly close to detect them. I am working on GM Tracking now with this char. |
