Thrax's attention was directed to the invitation lying in front of him on the desk---the one his wife had created and circulated. He admired its quality and beauty and smiled, being filled with anticipation of the celebration of their anniversary that it announced.

If there were truly decent gods, he was thankful to them for being blessed with such a woman as she: strong, intelligent, virtuous; one who loved him and their children passionately.

"Does she love you?" Oggaroth's avatar, Spawn, had asked him after he professed fear what she might do should she learn of his vow to serve the dark god, even though it had been given only to keep her and their children safe from him.

"Yes. Yes she does," he had confidently, and without any hesitation, replied.

"Then do not worry. She will understand."

He hoped and prayed that would remain true, for he had told her what he did, explaining his reasoning. She was taken aback and had to sit down. Through tear-filled eyes he begged her not to leave him and to understand why he had done it. She told him that she loved him and promised to stay with him and find a way to be free of the dark lord forever.

But she was clearly greatly dismayed and distraught by such knowledge, and saddened by it. If it continued he knew it could affect her health and become evident to all that something was wrong. The days and weeks ahead would show if she could, if their marriage could, weather this, their greatest storm.

Yet the celebration would surely help. He would make sure of that.
