Rhiannon trembled, frightened of what was about to happen. There she was, standing in front of the soul collector, Ardashir - an unkempt, extremely pale man. Ceinwyn stood a few steps behind her, Daz was to her right, and Moonglow Captain Vargus stood next to Daz.
Rhiannon had not wanted to go through this alone, so she had swallowed her pride and asked Daz to come along to support her. He had, to her surprise, agreed. While she knew Daz had a good heart, he wasn't the best body guard one could hope for…so, she wanted someone else to go along, too. Only a few other Council members were around, and she saw one that she thought, maybe – she could trust. Both Lord Fong and Lady Lee had spoken highly of him. Rhiannon took a deep breath. She had heard over and over again that the council members could always depend on one another - that they could trust each other. Boy, did she ever hope so. She approached Captain Vargus and filled him in on her problem, asking him to come with her and Daz. He agreed, showing no reluctance. Rhiannon felt a sense of pride.
They met with Ceinwyn and Ardashir who wasted no time leading them to a cave inside of Umbra. Ardashir told her to open her mouth and say, "Aauugh..." She did and he looked down her throat. He confirmed that there was, in deed, two souls in her one body. He asked, “What is the name of the soul that is to be taken?” Rhiannon was still for a moment, gazing into nothing. She flinched…flinched again and then her lips curled into a strange grin. Her eyes began to glow, “You will be taking Rhiannon...”
“No!” Daz interrupted! This is the daemon speaking! You will be taking Ishana – Rhiannon is to stay!”
Ishana glared at daz, “Back off, Zoo Boy! I’m in charge now, and he’s taking Rhiannon.”
He wasted no time and did exactly what Rhiannon had told him to do if this situation arose. He pulled out the whip she had given him and began to flog her. She screamed, hitting him with a pain strike – but when the whip tore open the previous lash marks on her back, the pain pushed the daemon back.
After stammering and regaining her orientation she stood and faced Ardashir. “You will be taking Ishana.”
They went through the agreement, Rhiannon signing her name. The process was relatively painless, just slightly uncomfortable while he held on to her tongue.
“It’s done,” Ardashir stated, a fly escaping from his mouth.
Rhiannon blinked, holding her breath for a second, and listened inside.
A smile spread across her face, her eyes lit up, brightly. “You did it!” She squealed to Ardashir as she rushed over to him, hugging him happily. His smell was...not pleasant. He seemed shocked and then hugged back…holding on just a little longer than which she was comfortable. She fidgeted a little and politely pulled away. She scurried over to Ceinwyn, smiling thankfully.
Ceinwyn told her that Ardashir and she would deliver a copy of the agreement to Rhiannon in Moonglow within the hour. Rhiannon nodded happily and the three council members left for home. Shortly after, the copy was delivered. Ceinwyn commented about how pretty Ardashir thought Rhiannon was. Rhiannon looked over to the soul collector who was now looking sheepish and embarrassed – she thought she saw another fly buzz from his mouth. Rhiannon thanked him politely, and then Ceinwyn reached up and plucked a hair from her head. “Ow! That hurt…” Rhiannon giggled. A few moments later she noticed Ardashir had tied it around his wrist. She tilted her head…what…
She shrugged it off. Time to celebrate – she was daemon free! _________________
