Main point here is that since EA isn't/won't/can't carry RP on on Atlantic, then that falls on us. If we are the upper eschelon of Atlantic then we have to show leadership as whole." |
This is a huge reason life sucks right now. _________________

Ya think, I remember when Iw as learning magery and a GM walked me around showing me each reagent. Those days are long gone. It was also a shame our EM for Atlantic was terrible. _________________ "Knowledge is not information, it's transformation."

Here is the one area I wished EA was like Blizzard, WoW has far stricter rulesets for griefing etc. There is no coming back, you get busted you are done. You call someone a racially charged or derogatory remark, you are gone. This was how EA used to be, shame they do not do things like that anymore. _________________ "Knowledge is not information, it's transformation."

Yes, but too often there are the over emo people who claim that every single thing said or done is somehow a derogative remark and unfortunately, those are the squeaky wheels getting the grease..
OMFG that name offends me.. I'm paging a GM to make you erase your char.. etc |

For example, your last event, the offender that picked up your decor etc. He would have been gone, bye bye etc. That would not have been a bad thing, it was disruptive and intentional. That type of stuff just needs to stop. _________________ "Knowledge is not information, it's transformation."

EA fell asleep and hid UO under the bed in a shoe box. Thats how it seems. |

If Gms banned for the first offense I would have seen the end of my account in 1996 |

If they banned for the first offense, we would have less griefers etc. It's amazing how when the consequences are severe, people tend to be more careful. _________________ "Knowledge is not information, it's transformation."

Sorry to say this, but Blizzard doesnt do as much as you think. I had a griefer cause some stress to me and several others in my guild over a period of a few weeks... and the GMs didnt do anything about it.
All they did was put a mark on his account each time and once he recieves enough marks... THEN he'll get banned.
NOW... using a racial remark or swearing and you can get in trouble if reported. I know of someone in my guild who was banned for 72 hours for telling some kid to "STFU". didnt swear it, just wrote STFU in a whisper to him.
I also had a member of my guild get banned for a week for impersonating a GM... and that was just stupid. I threw him out for that one. |

Yea, you don't want to swear at someone who will report you in WoW because Blizz doesn't F- around with that. I got an account warning for calling someone a jackass in a whisper in response to that person calling me several much worse things for "stealing" their monster, so I have to laugh about what must have happened to him for reporting me. Based on what he said and what I know has happened to other people for saying similar things, he probably reported himself into a 72-hr ban.
Unless you are RPing and someone keeps standing in your event, WoW is not really structured with the types of things that are griefable. No objects you can move around, etc. A lot of MMOs are like that now. UO still has that unique aspect about it, and its a shame that it isn't more valued by EA. |

Honestly? I think it's because Blizzard jsut loves the money. I mean, if they ban someone, that's one less person that has an account. They probably go real harsh on people every so often, just to keep people on their toes and in line.
But overall, I don't think Blizzard ever wants to ban someone. They are a business, ya know? _________________ When asked of the future...

True, but, a single subscriber to Blizzard is a drop in the bucket. If you break their rules, you are out. They'd lose much more business if they let griefers run rampant and a bunch of customers left because of the harassment. It also makes people more likely to be at odds with eachother; for example, I RARELY encounter rude people in WoW, whereas in UO, everyone was laughing at you, calling you a noob, trying to scam you. I've given expensive items to total strangers to have them work on it (just yesterday, I had a jewelcrafter cut a mystical skyfire diamond for me. those are a few hundred gold right there) and there isn't even a worry that someone'll steal it.
I really think that the overall attitude of the game depends on the ToS and how it is enforced. UO has a feel that they enforce it because they HAVE to, and even then they are sluggish, lazy, and uncaring... WoW has the feeling that they WANT to uphold it, and they do so with the utmost efficiency while still taking the time on real pages (I.E., they have a single button report for spammers, and they spend lots of time talking to you when you page about something).

Agreed, but a sane person can determine whats emo and whats true griefing. It comes down to when someone crosses the line as set by the games TOS, but if its not enforced by the GMs of the game then folks loose trust in the makers of that game to keep their online experience enjoyable. It also comes down to a person person "crap level". How much can a person take before it becomes just that: crap.
But I degres.
One can wax an wane over how things use to be,but like life itself, things change an evolve and we're forced to adapt to it, or not.
I, myself would like to see a slow and steady upward change of things (EA wise), but with the massive competition that UO faces the should be forced to make some massive improvements on all levels (having the return of the GMs would be a cool thing, something they should'nt have done). This is however is unlikely. So it comes down to us.
I was satisfied that this body decided to kick BSE. This body policed itslef and brought an end to a massive source of chaos to everyone and at least reinstiled some level of trust to the players in the RP community.
It comes down to this, not everyone is going to get along. Not everyone is going to like everyone else. Not everyone is going to agree on things. That is fine, that is called being human and having your own mind. But, everyone should remember one golden rule. Respect. No matter how much you dislike this or that, you should at least show a level of respect to a person, what they want to achieve, their guild and their RP.
I have a feeling that if everyone would remember this simple point then the community would be in a much better state and we could all handle whatever EA throws at UO. Respect folks...its a reason why we learned that in elementary school, its and elementary concept. But it seems to be the most basic element lacking in the RP community ( as a whole ) today.
Wow..I seemed to have rambled a bit, but it is a thought that I have had for a while.
