Wolves…Nasty, screaming, howling, wolves…
Shrieks in the woods…
Blood soaked ground…
Lee crept through the tangled forest, her sharp elven ears and eyes absorbing all around her. She had to delve deeper into the woods. The screams were louder – painful, piercing screams.
Bodies now. Bludgeoned heads. Ripped torsos.
Onward she pressed.
Then there was silence. A silence that was soon interrupted by one long, sorrowful cry.
TIE! Lee screamed into the woods. She began running…running towards the cry. There she was. There was her sister. She had fallen to her knees – her bloody mace broken beside her. Her head was tilted towards the sky and tears streamed down her soiled face. On the ground around her lay mangled, beaten bodies of wolves…humans…
Tie... Lee whispered as she stepped closer, trembling.
Tie turned her head and looked to Lee. She reached out a weak, torn hand. Tie started to speak, but before the words took form her jaw began to melt.
Tie!!! Lee screamed running over to her sister.
Blisters erupted - ripping the skin and Tie's face slid from the bones…
NOOO!!!!!! Lee sat straight up in her bed sweating, heart pounding, gasping for air. Damn you, my gods! Why would you curse me with such a nightmare!? She brought her hands to her eyes trying to dig the frightening image from her mind’s eye. Tears flowed freely and her body began to tremble. The gods spoke to her heart…Not just a dream, Lee…not just a dream…
Lee packed her things urgently, taking only the essentials - no more than necessary so as not to impede the swiftness of her journey. She scribbled a note furiously, tied it to a pigeon that flew off quickly towards Daz’s office.
JACKSON! She called into the forest as she ran out her door down the front steps. Her steed answered quickly, hearing the desperation in her voice. He bolted from the woods and slowed his gallop just enough for Lee to clutch his mane, pulling herself onto his back.
Kal Ort Por! she cried and they vanished into the air. |
