So much time had gone by, and Ceinwyn was still cleaning out the offices in the town of Umbra. She had gotten rid of most of it years ago when she had assumed control, but there were still many many documents and treaties and other offensive pieces of very official looking paperwork that remained. She had been just too busy to give them the proper attention they demanded.
So now she stood, tossing every single treaty and agreement that anyone else who had ever ruled Umbra in the past had ever signed with anyone into the fireplace. Old tax documents, extradition contracts, all of it, consumed by fire. She gave only the interesting ones more than a cursory once-over before throwing them to their fate. Some of the older agreements were amusing in retrospect.
A long process it was, and by the end of the day she was hungry. After stepping out for a bite to eat, she returned to begin work on the newer documents at her desk.
She tossed one, Malic's latest criminal extradition agreement that he swore she had signed when she never had.. into her special file.. the fireplace. One by one, the newer documents went into the blaze. The statement of arrest for Zeth MelGair made its new home in the warmth.
Did they really expect us to follow their own laws outside of Sanctus?
The idea was laughable. However, the paperwork of Sanctus always was useful for an advantage. How many times had she requested the paperwork on one of her offending followers, just to get them out of Sanctus before they could be jailed? One would think they'd learned by now that no Umbrans would ever serve Sanctan jail time or show up for any court date.
Finally, one last document left.
Ahh, my cheesecake trade proposal! Can't toss that one...
She looked around the room, every drawer and file stood open, empty and bare.
I absolutely despise paperwork!
She knew she had allowed the Other to rule for too long. Now that she was back it would be time to pick up where she had left off. Soon, it would be time to move on Trinsic.
But, we'll start with some nice warm up exercises in other places, first... |
