While escorting a merchant from town today I noted the moongate was not working. I conducted the man back to town, returned, and after conducting numerous tests, to make certain of my findings, I went to make a report, stopping only long enough to eat at your estate. About half an hour later when I went outside, I could find no citizens nor living things, other than myself, anywhere. I have no idea what became of them. My only guess is that the merchant, a man named Stanton, instilled some sort or fear in them and they all took off by ship (though that does not explain the absence of the animals). Although that supposition is literally filled with holes, I can make no other sense as to what may have happened.

If something happens to me, as I fear it shall, you will at least have this letter to serve as warning. I will remain here on guard at your estate as long as I can.
