He opened his eyes and looked upon a darkened ceiling of black stone. "Where am I?" he thought to himself. The "Who am I?" was not at issue; he knew instinctively that he was Thrax, High Priest of Oggaroth, and the daemon extraordinaire, Anthraxas, encased in human flesh that he could shred at will. Or at least that was his first thought.

But something was wrong. His last memories flooded his mind: he was in the presence of his god, being told he had sinned against him and put to painstaking, laborious, tasks that he could never quite fulfill. He had allowed his human will to overpower his daemonic will and for that he had to be punished. No mortal should ever win an equal contest between the two, Oggaroth had said, disgusted with him.

He remembered how he stood in the presence of Oggaroth with his half-sister, Lilyth Noir, who viewed him as he was, and yet still claimed to love him. Oggaroth was beaten, and in an instant the god separated him from the union he had known for ages... that of being a daemon and human at the same time. Then...

...there was nothing. It was as if he ceased to be. He had no memory after that agonizing, tearing, indescribably horrific, pain.

But here he was, alive again, in a place he did not at all recognize. He sat up in bed and looked around. The room was filled with all kinds of sights and smells: strange alchemical odors, the reek of decaying books and furniture, damp, dark stone and a chill that could only be described as other-worldly. That he did not reject these things, but found them pleasing, made him wonder, but only briefly.

Nearly naked, he got out of bed and walked about the room, examining the contents of vials and flasks on a stone table nearby.

And then he sensed the presence of someone. She walked into the room, but he was not ashamed to be scantily clad in front of her, nor did he fear her when he saw her...

She stepped off of the teleporter knowing there was someone in the lab with her. A first glance to the bed told her that he had awakened. The full impact of this thought did not register until she found herself face to face with him.

She could do not much more than stare at him, at first. She had followed the procedures detail by detail, as documented, sure, but she had not held too hope that it would work. Now he stood before her, living proof of the validity of the situation.

She stood, speechless for a moment, studying him. He appeared every bit the likeness of Thrax, yet she could tell a difference. There was a wildness to his eyes, one that she had not seen for a long time. When he moved forward, she snapped our of her trance.

"You're awake." It was perhaps the most obvious thing she could say.

With such a fine welcoming line, she proceeded to explain to him how he had come to be there. Patiently, she tried to answer his questions, to bring him to date on all that had transpired. As they spoke, they managed to scrounge up some clothing for him to wear. The hour grew late and it had been a day of great change for Anthraxas in his new body, so he decided to retire.
