... I've been considering downloading a trial version of Kingdom Reborn to check out the new graphics and play some of that asian and elf stuff that I skipped before I quit.

From what I've read, it looks like nothing fundamental has really changed, but does anyone have any advice for new-fangled templates to try or things that are majorly different in the last two years? (Keep in mind also that I'll have a newbie account... RIP ethereal unicorn)

Thanks Smile

A ton of patience might be required when you first log in with KR. Its nice but frustratingly buggy at times.
Have Fun!

For KR only, aye, and only custom UI's. No core client hacks.

There's a thread on Uhall explaining how to do it.

I downloaded KR not too long ago and I play on my desktop with it. I haven't really gotten used to it yet. It has definent potential. But I will say that I am SOOOO surprised it went gold in the shape it is, even after a patch or two.

The graphics are really nice especially the spell effects. I like the over all look of the KR better than standard UO 2d. While 2D may have the functionality, I've always hated the dated graphics. KR is light years better than the 3D client could ever hope to be.
(EX:in your paperdoll you actually look pretty damn cool. and not like some monkey from the woods.)

Give it some patience. Over all the coolest things to me are the graphics, the custom interface and the hot bars they introduced. The macroing system has also been made more useable. There tons of other stuff they upgraded/broke.

Bottom line. Don't get pissed at KR when it runs wierd, and if you have problems booting up, turn down your res a bit and if that doesn't work update your drivers for grafix.

Thats my little piece. Smile

Haha, wow. Now I'm scared. Oh well, it can't be worse than the AoS launch...

the graphics are rather pretty, but I can't figure out how to set up a macro to poison a weapon.

and UO Assist seems a waste of time if you are running KR.

By the way, if you do come back, welcome back, Arcana.

UO:KR is junk... but I ain't feeling like spending 2 hours downloading the patches since I have to install 2D from my AoS CD heh.
