“One, two, three four Lotte stepped slowly, contemplating each step. “One, two, three, four.” She stomped her leg with each number. “One, two, three and four. One, two, three and four and.” She stopped suddenly, clasping her hands together.

Do you know what comes after four?,” an elegant man asked, stepped out of the shrubbery, and stared at her with dark blue eyes. He pushed back his straight black hair slowly behind his ears.

“Of course, five!” Lotte said, her eyes widening in disbelief. “Didn’t you know that?”

The man chuckled and offered his hand towards her. “Of course, my dear. My name is Jackson. Jackson Sinclair the third. And whom do I have the pleasure of speaking to?”

Lotte stared at his hand for a moment, noting the length of his fingers on an otherwise perfect hand.

“Your fingers are too long,” she said, still staring at his hand.

“I beg your pardon?” he asked, his voice conveying his offense to her remark.

“You’re excused. What did you do?” Lotte looked at the man, her eyes sudden ly widening. “Oh, I’m Lotte. You asked, right?” She began to hum, her body swaying as she stared at him. He stared transfixed. Lotte looked at him, breathing out quick to move the hair from her eyes. “Sorry,” she said, before she turned around, and started counting again. “One and a two and a three, four.”

Jackson shook his head, “Excuse me, my dear, what song was that you were humming?” Lotte just shrugged, still counting. “Well, it must have a name, right?”

Lotte stopped mid-count (on three and a) and shook her head. “Of course it doesn’t,” Her tone hinted towards his idiocy, which only served to puzzle Jackson even more. After all, Lotte was the one mindlessly counting, not him. And she couldn’t seem to get past four. She continued counting even more, adding more ands and a’s to the counting. Even a oney, which made no sense. “What do you mean, of course it doesn’t?

Lotte stopped again, this time glaring at him. “Because it isn’t done yet, silly.” She stomped her foot. “You keep interrupting me!” Jackson was taken aback. This little twit made such a song? How was such possible? He doubted it was so, but decided to humor her.

“Do accept my apologies,” Jackson said with a bow. “Please continue. I shall wait for the final draft.”

Lotte stared at him again. “Where was I?”

“You were at a” he said with pure sincerity.

“No, I was much higher. Oh! Two three, four and a one and a two and a three-ee and a four.” Lotte smiled, then stopped smiling as she turned and stared at him. “You are still here?” Jackson just nodded. Lotte smiled wide again. “Then tell me if this is good.” She began to sing, her voice full, rich and strangely hypnotic

I know where my true love lives.
Beneath the earth, in hell he is.

Lotte stopped suddenly. “I don’t like the lyrics. Hmmm” She stared at Jackson, who was in a stupor. She shrugged. Suddenly, as she stared at him, she began to sing again.

I call you
You hear me.
Your heart trembles
In fear or need
You don’t know.

Come to me
When I whisper your name
Follow me
When I sing of your fate
Nothing can be seen but me
You can’t stop me
You can’t defy me now

Hear my voice
Feel me now
You know I’ve come
To bring you down
You are mine

Come to me
When I whisper your name
Follow me
When I sing of your fate
Nothing can be seen but me
You can’t stop me
You can’t defy me now

My voice caresses your face, dear
Calling for you
Reaching for you
Your sacrafice upon your bed
Goes unheeded
You world is bleeding now

Come to me
When I whisper your name
Follow me
When I sing of your fate
Nothing can be seen but me
You can’t stop me
You can’t defy me now
You can’t stop me
Everything you are is mine now

Lotte stopped, having finished her song, staring at Jackson. He stared at her, his mind blank. Lotte gave a small smile, aand leaned down, whispering in his ear, “Everything you are is mine now.”
