**Looking out from the battlements of Armunn Keep, she surveys DarkCove and thinks on the progress that has been made so far. The town is almost back to it's original form, however, the Dark Order force itself was smal and slow to to grow. For now this was as she had wanted it, but soon, very soon Imryrr's wants would change. Her force was not only to be elite, but also an army. Now she must think and plan for that. Recruitment should not be done in the normal way. She needed only the best of warriors and soldiers, and they were not easy to find or to come by.......
Her thoughts were interrupted by a short, stout faced man. A man she had hired among the citizens to "watch" over them covertly.
"My dark mistress, there is a situation inside the town walls that you should be aware of."
Imryrr waited and looked down upon the man fidgeting with his shirt sleeves out of nervousness.
"Speak then." Her voice quiet but firm, and almost harsh.
"It is Anton, the old warrior. He's up to no good. Yesterday he was showing us this flyer he has and talkin how good the opportunity is. How we might want to go take our sons there. He was into his cups though. But today--" the man shook his head in dissappointment before continuing. "--Today he's over near the market house with a group of youngins and spoutin that stuff that's on the flyer to them and asking them to talk to their fathers about it."
Imryrr gripped her hands into tight fists at his words, yet remained silent and listned.
"We have it better here than we did before you came. We sure do appreciate what you've done for us to help rebuild and get our families back home and all but, well, mistress, talk of that gold that Magincia offers is bound to perk a few ears."
The Dark Daughter remained very still and the man wondered if she was about to behead him. Her eyes, those white solid eyes gave him an unnerving chill, so he kept his gaze lowered. At last she nodded and spoke.
"I will deal with this issue myself. I thank you for the information You and your family will be rewarded handsomely for your service. Now leave this keep and speak to no one of coming here."
The man nodded repeatedly and moved off quickly.
Imryrr's thoughts were heavy on this. The Anton that her informer had spoken of was commiting an act of treason against the Dark Order. But this....Isk. He was not to blame. Not directly. She would see to her own, and then offer a polite warning to Magincia's Magnate.
Downstairs in the greeting hall she found a few of her brothers. Still angered, and wanting to deal right away with the criminal Anton, she barked out the orders for a couple of them to come with her into the town where they would there by arrest and punish the traitor.........
The smell of burning flesh still penetrated her nose. It was a stench she detested but there had been lessons to be taught. Anton was found and made to hoist his own pole after an attempted escape. He would have lived if not for the attempt. And then one of her own brothers dared to question her decission. Mercy. He wanted mercy for the old man whimpering on the pole. Mercy indeed! Mercy, compassion...were both for the weak. Xyr'kor had shown this weakness and he had shown it in a way that questioned her authority. A first mistake. She knew about his lightbringer past and the effects, the pull it still had on him from time to time. He had asked her to show him a darker way when he gave his oath to the Dark Order. Asked her to teach him. And so, Imryrr would be lenient this time, and forgive her new brother. She ordered that he, Xyr'kor, be the one to set flame to the pole.
Now, sitting at her desk in the cold study, she chose her words carefully and began to write the personal letter that was to be delivered by Xyr'kor and her house servant, Jujual, to the legendary Magnate of Magincia, Isk. Imryrr blinked and sat back a moment to ponder upon this man. He was legendary in the sense that she had heard of him often. Remembered her father speaking of him and sometimes even with respect. If he had shown him respect, there would be good reason, and so, she would offer him the same out of her own respect for her father.
*Scrolltube stuffed inside the partial powdery remains of a burnt corpse. The tube holds both a letter and a copy of Magincia's recruit flyer.*
Isk, Magnate of Magincia,
I return found property to you. This advertisement.
It was found in the hands of a DarkCove citizen. An old warrior who spoke the words of your parchment to our young.
Though I realise you are not to blame for the man's actions, I thought it best to send both your parchment and his body to the Magincia's shores, as his presence, even in death, smells of dishonor to us, of the Dark Order.
Imryrr Armunn,
The Dark Order
*stamped and sealed with the House Armunn and the Dark Order crests*

Xyr'Kor sat awake, tired but sleepless, most of the night thinking about what transpired earlier. His new family, The Dark Order family, put a man to death by his hand tonight. An innocent man by the ideals of the Virtues he was trained to. A guilty man by the Laws of the Dark Order. The Virtue of honor holds true, I swore an oath and am Honor bound to the Dark Order to uphold that oath. I can't get the look of fear in the man's eyes out of my mind. To see him tremble, sense and feel the fear he was experiencing, to have such power over another. Is this the reward for following the Dark path? Is there more? Such confusion, tangled feelings, desires, all from trying to toss aside the beliefs of the Virtues. Still, the Dark Lady has taken a chance with me, is trying to guide me. Does that make her evil or honorable? I must think on these Virtues later. My mind is too tired and confused to think any further. |
