It had been days since she had lain down her head. He stayed laying in the bed beside her tugging at his shirt, now an action in reprieve of the voices in his head.

They were both speaking to him through his imagination and he was concerned. She was so alike, in so many ways, and yet so distinctly different. His thoughts roamed through the room filled with just them three, though filled it was still. Sound roared in his ears as they bickered back and forth, both of them raging at him, and yet neither of them actually addressing him. And he could make out nothing they were saying, but he knew their frustrations. With his eyes opening, he realized he had dozed off, and how odd that was for him.

What a twisted thought he wove… laughter over taking him in the usual fashion. He felt off; the room was spinning now and his head ached. His voice, if he had been speaking, would have quivered and grown weak. Where his hands worked idly at the fiber of his shirt, they quaked, and his skin, which had held a somewhat healthy color, now grew deathly pale. It took every ounce of effort he could amass to stand and walk to the chair nearest her.

He sat staring at her as she slept, smiling, in spite of himself, a soft smile. One hand roamed the doll he still kept at his waist, wife or none, and his other stroked her hair. He began giggling again in odd form and yet his whole body tugged at him, heavy and empty. She began to stir and brought a hand to where his rested on her face.

He darted to his feet, his look of gleeful content still unwarily plastered to his face, and in mere moments she had awoken. She noticed him soon and looked at him in question for a moment before speaking.

“Toren… How long have I been asleep?” He made no reply initially, simply staring on at her, finally realizing he was smiling, and adjusting his face accordingly. Then he spoke blankly.

“A few days…”

They were silent, her seated on the bed, becoming slowly aware of her surroundings and the situation, and he standing, wishing desperately to tell her everything and hoping at the same time that she already knew. She turned to him as her face sunk.

“Why…” There was a long pause and horrible, though very tame and simply disheartened, tension between the two. “Why did you do it?”

He sighed nothing and looked to the ground. “I want a child.”

She gasped and drew back, then rolled over and began to sob into her hands. Toren approached her and rested a hand on her shoulder; she ceased in confusion and looked to him oddly.

“Toren… You’ve doomed me.”

Gentle sobs shook her body as the truth dawned its ugly head rearing and tearing her apart. Her days were numbered. Paler and slightly more tired then days before she had awoken to a bitter truth.

She was going to die, as her mother, had, giving life to death. She felt angry and betrayed but the emotions would not rise to surface they stayed below as she looked up at her new husband, sadness on her face. Do you not think it odd that a woman my age, has had no children nor married? I avoided such on purpose....I will not live thru childbirth Toren, just as my mother did not.

There is a price to pay for what you seek, and I am the one that pays it. Her words seemed to affect him, strange as it was, some wall had broken down inside him and he felt suddenly as if he could not condemn her to deaths door.

You can not be sure of this, you can not know that all will be the same, he said beguilingly.

She shook her head adamantly, Just promise me you will burn my body, and stay with me till darkness claims me. A wealth of emotion played across his face, her blunt acceptance of her fate bothering him confusing her understanding of him once more. Dont talk like this..

Just promise me this, and you shall have your child..

Of course, but you are not going to die...

Both sentences stubbornly spoken, both said with some ring of truth in them. They had come to an understanding an unspoken agreement and she turned to him with sudden happiness, and a wealth of warmth in her voice. I will honor my vows, and she kissed him suddenly his demeanor set totally off guard. Why the change of heart Wisteria? Its nice but makes no sense...

Taking a shaky breath, If these are days that are to be my last, I will enjoy them, I will not spend them in misery or remorse. Long hidden and all but gone, courage grew up within her once more, she would bear what these days brought her, with a smile upon her face and love within her heart.
===============================================

Hungry she ate the chicken with relish her appetite at dinner knowing no bounds. When a lovely woman walked up carrying a wee babe, she knew Toren, and called him brother. She seemed happy to see him and showed them both her young infant. Wisty stared at the child her heart beating wildly at first as she looked at the symbol of her death, but it was not long before the beauty of the child seeped into her heart. It was not long till the mother inside her opened its resting eyes and stepped forth, causing longing in her arms, to hold her own babe, and longing in her heart to kiss its tiny head.

Sadira was shocked at their union but happy for them, and Wisty felt her happiness flow into her. Kind woman, good woman, made her a chocolate cake even, with icing that read:

Wisty and Toren a Union of Love...

Wisteria found herself fervently wishing it would be so...
