"Look at them, Merci. Greed is one of the most driving motivations a mortal can have. I so love using it to my advantage."

A moment later, Merci's blade arched down into their next victim, cleaving him diagonally across the chest. The man fell back with a startled gasp, as Ceinwyn's own blade rushed up, spearing into the abdomen of his companion. Blood spurted from the woman's mouth as she fell forward onto the blade, her mouth an "O" of surprise. Ceinwyn grabbed her by the hair and lifted her, sliding the sword easily out of her, like butter. The woman's body lurched sideways with nothing to hold it up.

"This one had 2 of the smaller pieces, and about 4 of the large," Merci said.

Ceinwyn searched the woman's pockets for some and then grabbed her backpack. Turning it upside down to empty its contents upon the ground revealed there wasn't anything inside it.

"He must have thought they would be safer with him. Men."

They laughed and Merci gathered the man's body up, as Ceinwyn dragged the woman. Together, they moved the corpses further into the woods, and dumped them.

Wiping swords clean as they walked back, Merci spoke.

"This is easier than killing orcs."

"Yes, and far more worth it. Also, there is no nasty after smell. Look, here come more, just in time."

The next victims were a trio of men, all appearing to be miners. Merci swung her sword at the far right fellow, catching him so by surprise that he dropped his pick-ax. Her blade sliced across his neck, showering her in red warmth. Ignoring it she shoved him down to the right and focused on the last man. Ceinwyn, having disposed of the left flanker in similar fashion, was advancing on him, as well. Looking back and forth between them, the man was frozen with fear.

Ceinwyn looked to Merci. They both smiled and nodded. Stepping quickly up to the man, they each placed a hand on opposite sides of his head, and whispered.

"An flam."

Twin shots of ice speared into the man's head and his gaze went vacant. When they pulled back their hands, he dropped to the ground.

The payoff was much better, this time.

Counting the pieces, Ceinwyn remarked to Merci.

"Do you suppose the fellow that all these people are heading to is some part of a new following of Armageddon?"

"Could be, " Merci said as she wiped her blade clean and grabbed one of the men.

Ceinwyn lifted one of the bodies onto her shoulder, and together, they each took a leg of the last man, and hauled them into the woods. As they deposited the bodies on the ever-enlarging pile, Ceinwyn grinned at the blood-drenched Merci.

"This is so much fun!"

Merci smiled, Ceinwyn and she moving quickly as if they had fought together for all eternity.

They stood moving slowly into formation, as a group of five burly men advanced on them. Merci heard one man utter to his companions..

Dont kill em, I'd like to have me way with em first...

Cold laughter rang out from Merci and Ceinwyn giving the group pause. The two were far from worried, back to back they stood and the words rang out once more....

An Flam....

The men stood frozen as the icy ring shot out, turning them into a group of frozen statues, horror engraved on their faces. Merci felt as if that was perhaps the utmost beautiful moment in her life as she admired the horror stricken expressions. Turning to Ceinwyn she said, I smelt none of what we seek on em, no need to check these.

Ceinwyn walked up to one of the statues and looked it over inspecting it. Then with a precise kick she rammed her booted heal into it, and it toppled to the ground. Upon impact it shattered and peices of ice flew thru the air some landing in her hair shimmering brightly....

That one didnt look scared enough......
