Metal clashed against metal as the girl pressed her attack. Her opponent chuckled quietly, muttering spells as he fought back. Quickly she was defeated.

He helped the girl up and watched as she brushed her shirt off.

"Again." She smiled slightly.

Beowulf nodded. Audrina had come to him, asking to duel him. "Tell me my flaws." She had asked him. He saw no harm in doing that, she was once a soldier under his command. Pointing out a few flaws could only help her so much, it wouldn't threaten Moonglow at all.

The large stone wall dropped in front of Moonglow Headquarters, quickly Audrina made her way towards Beowulf. The first fight he hadn't worn his hat, giving her a slight advantage. This time however, he took off his gloves as well. The fork dug into Beo's wrist, causing him to drop his weapon. He danced quickly around her in circles.

"In Mani, In Mani, In Mani!" he repeated.

Quickly he stepped left, then right, leaping at her as he struck for blood. Again he was disarmed, this time he pressed on ignoring the pain. Quickly Audrina fell to his spells. He helped her up again, watching her wipe the dust off her shirt.

"My flaws?" She asked him.

"I'm too good." Beowulf replied, smirking. "Many mages who are trained with a weapon will be set off guard when disarmed. If they are trained properly in the arcane arts, then they will have no problems fighting without a weapon."

"So wise, too bad your head is too big." She replied, grinning.

The two ended their confrontation and Audrina made her leave.

---Hours Later---

Beowulf fiddled with the small piece of blackrock at the Moonglow Headquarters. He admired it, for he knew how special the rock was to him. Over and over again he used his thumb to flip the tiny rock into the air and catch it. The sound of a woman clearing her voice caught his attention, he turned abruptly and faced Audrina.

"What is it about you Umbrians? You seem to be popping up lately..."

"I think your missing something." Audrina cut into his sentence. "Your ring must have snagged on my shirt." She pointed to the ring tangled on fabric.

Beowulf shrugged slightly, glancing towards his finger. "Damnit.." he cursed.

"C'mon then, come get it."

Beowulf carefully approached her and tugged the ring from her shirt. He slid it back on his middle finger and clenched his hand into a fist repeatedly. Suddenly a sensation washed over his body, tingles ran down his arm to his finger tips. He closed his eyes, opening them again and looking directly into Audrina's eyes. Audrina turned to leave.

"Wait." Beowulf spoke

Audrina smirked and turned to face him. She smiled slightly. "Yes?" She asked.

"You know..." he began to speak. "You really are quite beautiful."

She smiled and walked closer to him. "You have a fascination with the dark side?" she winked to him.

"I have a dark, dark past." He replied. "There's nothing anymore dark about you than there was once about me." Beowulf smirked.

He made an advance towards her, lust tempting his mind. She stopped him and laughed quietly.

"I'm not as easy as you think..."

"I don't expect anything from you. Merely a kiss." Beo replied as he tugged on her shirt.

Quickly Audrina pressed in and kissed him passionately. Beowulf returned the kiss eagerly. She pushed him back against the table at his rear.

"Play with your blackrock." She said, turning and walking across the hall.

"I'll be seeing you." He told her.

Audrina smirked and continued walking. "Find me first."

Retrieving the ring was the easy part, it was the curse that proved difficult.

Audrina took the ring back to Umbra with her and sent for Sy-wen. She sat patiently waiting for her to arrive, staring down at the ring with a wide smirk.

"Sy-wen, I need to know you word can be trusted before I tell you what needs to be done"

"Of course"

"Very well. I need this ring to be cursed with the strongest curse of love that you know."

Sy-wen did not waste anytime in giving Audrina a list of things that needed to be retrieved.

"You will need: A Harpy's feather, A vile of Deamon's blood, A fetish, and a lock of your hair."

Knowing the urgency of the situation, Audrina rode off quickly to hunt her prey. The Deamon's blood was the most difficult to retrieve because as she tried to fill a vile with the fallen Deamon's blood, another Deamon would come at her. This task proved much more difficult than Audrina had expected, but the reward would be great, if achieved.

Sy-wen took the ingredients and began with the ceremony. She placed down the fetish and then the ring and began the curse.

Once finished, she told Audrina the seriousness of the curse.

"Keep it in a box or else it's powers may seep into you as well."

Audrina listened to her. Without Sy-wen finishing her list of side effects, Audrina thanked her and quickly rode off to find the owner of the ring.

Beowulf was not a hard man to track down. He was either roaming the streets of Moonglow, fighting or training the Consensus of Light, or staring blankly at the piece of blackrock in the Headquarters of MTC.

She looked over to him as he glared at the blackrock and cleared her throat. Once the ring was in place, she could hear Sy-wen's voice "The curse will be sealed to it's maximum power with a kiss." Audrina knew what had to be done and as she leaned in to seal Beowulf's fate, Toren's face flashed before her.

She walked out of Moonglow, not as happy as she expected for her victory, but disheartened for her loss.

"For the protection of the darkness, the protection of Umbra, and foremost the protection of my Matron, this must be done."

Beowulf sat on his mount while the horse trotted through Umbra. Care-free, not frightened at the thought Umbra guards could attempt to sieze him. He had only one thing on his mind, his love, Audrina. There she was, providing a vendor with her items to sell. Quickly his horse hurried over towards her.

"My love! I found you!" Beowulf proclaimed as he approached Audrina. He jumped off his mount.

"What are you doing here?" Audrina asked, looking around quickly. She seemed slightly annoyed, she quickly lightened up though. "Oh, yes you have." she smiled towards Beo.

"I got you something." Beowulf told her as he rummaged through his pack. He produced a small card and handed it to her as he blushed.

"You light my candle of love, Audrina! Love: Beowulf Thormear." she read quietly. She chuckled slightly. "Thank you." She kissed him gently and left the building, walking down the road.

"Uh...wait!" Beowulf yelled, he chased after her.

"Sanctus..." she pointed in the opposite direction "is that way."

"Aye! But your this way, and I want -you-." he noted.

The two debated back and forth for a couple minutes on where to go. Audrina wanting to stay in Umbra and visit the tavern. Beowulf wanted to take her away in private. It went back and forth, finally Audrina agreed to go with him, slightly reluctantly. Beowulf quickly made work with his spells and a blue gate emerged before them, the two walked forward, entering and exiting it together.

They wandered about a cave, Audrina had never seen this place before. Beo bounced back and forth excited, showing her each room and talking away. Finally he led her to bed room, a small fire pit was dug into the ground with small tiles around it.

"Where is this?" Audrina asked curiously.

"Used to be a hideout for a band of pirates. They've long left this place though, so I like to come here for privacy." He nodded a bit.

Beowulf produced a bottle of wine and offered a genuine sip to his love. She accepted and took a decent size swig from it, then returned it to him. Audrina watched carefully, wondering if he'd take a sip himself. She knew that when infected by the curse, any alcohol consumption would lead to "violent love". He would desire her above all and literally hunt her down, if they were not together. Beowulf took two large swigs from the bottle, she merely smiled.

The two spent a while together, the wine was working in over drive. Beowulf was consistent with coming on to her. He made it clear that if he ever caught her near another man he'd kill him, she smirked and returned the comment. Audrina told him, if they were to be together it was to be a secret. For if anyone ever found out, there'd be no telling what would happen to her. She asked him to pull his soldiers out of Sanctus, insuring him that the two could be together if neither Umbra nor Moonglow fought each other. Finally they were ready to make their leave, Beo was the first to speak up.

"Alright, I've got things to attend to! Next time, you can find me." He smiled proudly and left.

----Hours Later-----

Beowulf grasped his head tightly, pains pierced his temples. He had dropped his book while reading, for a second time tonight. Jealous rage filled his heart, he wanted to lash out at someone, but he had no idea why. It was as if something dear to him was being taken away and there was nothing he could do. Audrina knew, unlike him, that in the presence of an ex love of hers -for a long enough time- it would send Beowulf into a jealous rage. Pains would fill his head, all due to the curse, side effects she wished she could avoid. Every time this happened, the curse weakened and Beo felt less lust for her.

---Hours After That----

Beowulf sat at the tavern by the docks in Serpents Hold. He held conversation with some of the sailors and mentioned he was playing a game with the woman he loved. He knew she'd have a heck of a time finding him way out here. Two sailors and Beowulf were engaged in a game of dice, when the doors of the tavern crashed into the walls. There stood a gorgeous girl, long black hair and pure black clothing. She staggered towards Beowulf and jumped on his lap.

"Found you!"
Audrina said, laughing. She was drunk off her arse. Over the next few minutes it had seemed exactly like their first encounter of the day, but vice versa. Beowulf was calm and Audrina was overly excited. He comforted her, stroked her hair and allowed her to pass out on his shoulder. She awoke abruptly and asked repeatedly to see his house. So he took her.

Half way through the tour of the Thormear Manor Audrina demanded to find a bed. The alcohol had taken control and she couldn't handle it anymore. She snooped through his room, looking at all of his decorations. Her eyes caught a card and she read it carefully, seeming slightly jealous. The two got along quite well, until Audrina pushed the envelope.

"End the war, pull your troops out of Sanctus." She asked Beo, still pressing the idea of the two being together.

"Is that all you think about? War, war, war?" He grew frustrated. "If we can't be together while at war, than lets just get away from all this! Do you love me?"

She nodded a bit. "Yes."

"Then leave Umbra!" He demanded.

Audrina was caught off guard, her sentence was cut short as she had begun to talk. Quickly she rolled off the bed, offended. Beowulf knew he was in the wrong, he felt terrible for making his love upset. He reassured her he was sorry and wiped a tear from her cheek with his thumb. He gave her his word that he would try to pull Moonglow troops out of Sanctus, only if she'd stay with him.

The two laid down in their clothes, neither of them truly planned to sleep for long. Beowulf was ecstatic that Audrina stayed with him. He'd -never- tell her that he had no plan on pulling his troops from Sanctus though.

Audrina awoke abruptly to the sound of moaning. It sounded as if the man laying next to her was in some sort of pain.

"Beowulf? Are you awake?" she asked, but no response.

His constant movements along with his spiratic grunts were more than enough reason for her to wake up and get out of bed. She knew what was happening. This was a side effect of the curse: nightmares. What his nightmare was about was something she could only imagine.

She was still fully dressed as she arose from the bed. Looking towards Beowulf she could see he was as well.

The night previous to this interrupted sleep proved to be a success for Audrina. She smiled as she picked up her pouch. She kissed Beowulf's forehead, to once again add strength to the curse, and then quietly found her way outside of the room.

On her journey back towards Umbra she recalled the events of the night. Her body felt warmth that it had not in a while. The way Beowulf longed for her made her feel wanted --- loved, but the feeling was quickly shattered. She could see scenes from the night unfold before her.

She looked down at her empty flask and stood to steady herself as Beowulf swept her off of her feet. He took her on a tour of his house that she had been asking to go on. Once there, Audrina curiously looked around. For once her mind was not on how to sway Beowulf into leaving the war, but her mind was focused on the attention she was receiving. Her hands fumbled over a love letter:

"To my one and only love, Beowulf Thormear. Signed: Tatiana Alexi"

She set the letter down and took in a deep breath. The attention she was receiving was due to a curse. She reminded her self that he did not love her, not did any other man. She was incapable of being loved. The playfulness that had embodied her minutes before had left her. She was back on task. Her mind refocused on what needed to be done.

"You must pull your soldiers back. You must retreat. In order for us to be together freely, it must be done." she stood her ground and gave him good reason to want to do as she asked.

The conversation escalated.

"Do you love me? Do you love me as much as I -love- you?" Beowulf asked her eagerly.

"Yes of course." she lied.

"Leave Umbra and I will leave Moonglow and we can be together." he shouted.

She must act quickly and remove this idea from his head. Her mind raced with what to do next when suddenly she forced out a tear.

"True love is not selfish. I would never ask you to leave your family or your home. I would never ask you to leave Moonglow."

He wiped the tear away gently and with that he was yet again in the palm of her hand.

"Will you stay the night with me?" he asked.

"Only if you promise that you will speak to Fong tomorrow and begin your plan to pull your soldiers out of Sanctus."

He brushed the hair out of her face and nodded. They both made their way to the bed. Audrina pushed herself against him as much as her body allowed, making sure to keep as much contact with him as possible. In her head she knew the more contact, the stronger the curse will become. She placed her head on his chest as he gently stroked her hair.

..........................................................................................................

Audrina arrived back at the Umbra tavern just as the sun was rising. She laid her head upon the pillow of the bed and quickly fell asleep. She found herself in a nightmare physically much like the one Beowulf was in when she had left him.

"I will kill the child." she could hear Toren's voice, but she could not see his face. All she saw was complete darkness. In her dream she was alone which was not much different from how she felt while awake.

"You and I have no more business. Leave!" His words rang through her head like a bell.

The darkness that swirled around her had now begun to consume her. She swung her sword left and then right. The clanking of the sword told her that she was hitting something or someone. She was fighting so hard, but it seemed to be getting her no where. Her dream had now completely turned silent. She was swinging her sword, but there was no sound. The darkness that surrounded her was now even darker than before. Audrina dropped her sword. It was useless to fight. The silence mixed with the darkness soothed her. She embraced the darkness that was swallowing her whole. The nightmare had ended.

She sat up a bit disoriented wiping the beads of sweat from her forehead. As she walked outside she felt the cool air blow through her hair. It was refreshing after such a long night.

Both Vargus and Beowulf sat at the meeting table in the recruitment chambers. It was Beowulf's favorite place to discuss any guild matters, it was private and cozy. His original plan was to meet with the Minister of Defense and discuss the retreat of Moonglow soldiers from Sanctus. This part of the conversation however was interrupted by Beowulf's cries of pain.

Vargus sat, looking bewildered as his Lord Chancellor grasped his head tightly. He watched Beowulf moan in pain, cursing the virtues for the pain. He wasn't quite sure if it was a thriving headache or if Beo was under some sort of spell. Over and over again Beowulf muttered something about his love.

"It's not fair, it's not fair." Beowulf slammed his fists against the stone table. He ignored the pain, his eyes caught Vargus, he slammed the table once more. "If I ever find anyone near her..." Beowulf trailed off once again in his temper tantrum.

(Quote from Audrinas story)
There would be severe consequences if she were to visit him, to tell him of her love. The curse that holds Beowulf so tightly in her palm would begin slowly to weaken. Beowulf would feel the pain of one thousand blades within his head. Not only would Beowulf pay for her actions, but she would as well. Toren being in the state of undead could never really offer her anything resembling a real relationship. She was setting herself up for pain. For an hour she sat and tried to talk herself out of the journey to the library, but she had felt weak. Beowulf could not fill the empty spot, not the way that Toren could.

Over the course of an hour she had exposed her feelings for him and exposed many tears. What was she doing? Crying? “So weak.” She thought to herself. There had been one thing she had not expected and only one thing. The words bounced off the wall as if they would never leave the building, “I love you Audrina”

(Unquote from Audrinas story)

Beowulf slowly began to calm. The curse had begun to weaken rapidly. He felt lust for Audrina and her desire to be with him, along with her wishes for Moonglow troops to be pulled from Sanctus. On the other hand, Beo wasn't quite sure why he felt this way about an enemy. Why would he want to pull his soldiers from Sanctus? He began to feel extremely confused, emotions poured over him.

Vargus sat uncomfortably watching. He moved slightly in his chair, it made a scraping sound. Quickly his and Beowulf's eyes met.

"Forgive me Vargus!" Beowulf barked up quickly. "Our troops, their located mainly in the heart of Sanctus. Pull them from there."

"Pardon? Why would we..." Vargus began to question.

"Set them upon their outskirts. Sanctus and the rest of their allies have it covered. It's not fair for their miners who are only limited to a small portion of cave. Set posts by the orc's hut outside of the caves, near Umbra. Exterminate the orc hordes over and over again, and scout the roads for enemies."

Vargus nodded and continued to listen.

"We will set up a meeting with the warlords of our allies. Marcus M'real and whomever the other guilds send. We are going to propose a plan of attack, along with setting up a tactical advance. Umbra has taken the blunt of the attacks during this war. Now we'll point our troops towards fire island, the heart of the Conclave. Over this upcoming week I want constant attacks on the Island. Conquer the temple of the Daemons, press hard on the Damned temple. It is time to press hard enough to scare whatever is left out of those Daemons and Undead. If the rest of the alliance wishes not to aid us, then pull our troops out of Sanctus completely, and we'll do it ourselves."

"Semper Veritas." Both men spoke to each other. Vargus walked out of the Moonglow Headquarters, leaving Beowulf confused.

"What the hell is wrong with me?"

*floral scent of the paper wafts about the room*

It was rather interesting when Audrina requested my help in something. She never seemed to have an interest in me before but when I found what it was I was rather excited to help. Curses can be very difficult for the caster and those involved but lucky for me I only called the spell and did not use my own hair.....

I did warn Audrina of the curse but she did not seem to want to know of the warnings. Too bad. A curse tends to be easy to cast but to break one is so, so, so much more dangerous. I would hate to see harm come to Audrina but if you dont listen to the warnings of a Sidhe....oh the trouble that will be and the chaos that will surely keep me entertained

She went to find him. She needed to strengthen the curse. His house seemed empty at first glance, but with time she found him sitting in his study. Within minutes of her arrival she was suprised to see Tatiana Alexi enter. It was time to put on a show. She appeared angry and frustrated by her visit. To Beowulf he saw a jealous rage fall upon her. Inside she was laughing. It was fun to watch him squirm. She stormed outside and began killing all that she could. The poor sheep.

Beowulf came after her, just as she knew he would. She did not listen to him, although she made it seem that she was completely involved in the conversation. Why should she listen? She knew what he was going to say. "I am sorry, I love you!"

A loud screech came from the sky. She looked up to see her pidgeon flying near. She pulled the letter from the pidgeon's foot and carefully read it over. Battle. Moonglow versus the Conclave alliance. His eyes met hers as she finished reading.

"I must go. Darkness calls." she said.

He knew, just as she did, that soon they would be meeting on the battle field. No longer would they be playing in this game of lust, but their swords were about to dance together in anger.

The first battle ended quickly. Audrina used this situation to her advantage. Without the others seeing she left Umbra and rode to Beowulf's home. Once there she pulled out her sword. With a quick jab she punctured her skin. She had to make it look believable. She positioned herself on the floor making sure her bloody arm was visable. Now all she had to do was wait. Wait for Beowulf to come and see what his men did to her.

He'd gotten the pigeon before Audrina did, that is why Beowulf was in such a rush to usher Tatiana out of his home. He'd felt bad for talking to her over Audrina, but something deep down inside him knew that he had to protect Tati. The pigeon was simple; Moonglow would be launching an assault upon the Conclave, alone.

He had gathered the Moonglow members and led them into battle. It didn't go exactly as planned. A disappointed Lord Chancellor returned to his Head Quarters. It was then he decided that training would be stepped up and each member was going to be molded. They would be taught how to react during battle, they would learn to defend and attack without a hesitation.

The ideas floated around in Beowulf's head as he stood in front of the troops. Fong received another pigeon, Conclave was attacking Sanctus.

"Don't bother hiding behind walls. Don't bunch up inside the castle. Stand your ground outside, together." Beowulf commandrf, to very few soldiers that were present.

The soldiers, only enough to count on one hand, parted from Moonglow. Beowulf stayed and watched the soldiers leave, he had to get home. He wasn't sure why, but he just knew he had to. The black horse took off, nothing but dust was left at the Head Quarters.

From the outside his house seemed dark and empty. Step after step the chancellor made his way up the heavy stair case. His fingers gripped the steel handle about the door. He pressed it open and quietly entered his welcome hall. His breath left his body, the room magically lit. There on the floor lay his love, Audrina, with blood dripping down her side. Her arm had a gash running horizontal, she looked pale. Beowulf, terrified, hurried over to her. He brushed her hair gently and called her name.

"Audrina! Audrina, are you ok?" He shook her body with a slight bit of force.

Her eyes opened weakly, she could only let out a soft moan. Beowulf tightly wrapped his arms around her and pressed off the ground using his legs. Quickly he moved across the hall directly to his bedroom. He eased her onto the bed from his arms before running to his armoire. Band aids and liquor, the best healing remedy he knew of. He ran to the bed, tightly he gripped her right hand and told her to squeeze if it hurt. The liquor ran over her cuts, stinging annoyingly, tightly she squeezed his hand. Beowulf wrapped her arm with a band aid and rested it on her side. Ever so gently his lips met her forehead, he quietly spoke to her.

"Rest here love, I have matters to attend to."

"Wait, stay! I need you." Audrina gently replied.

"I can't, I won't be long. Please just rest."

"What could be more important than me?" She asked weakly.

Beowulf replied to her before turning and parting from the room. His cloak flapped violently in the air, his horses hooves pounded into the ground fiercely. He made it far from his home in a quick manner, than casted his spell to recall him to the Head Quarters.

The soldiers were in uniform and lined up fashionably before the Lord Chancellor got there. His troops had been left alone while their allies bundled themselves in the Sanctus Castle. Just like he command them to, they fought outside away from the hiding walls. They had not done so well.

"Meeting hall." Beowulf spoke without breaking stride up the stairs.

Seats were quickly found by everyone, Beowulf sat in Fong's.

"Tonight, we take our rest. This war is getting out of hand, people are getting hurt all over. Kidnappings, tortures, battles, soon enough - assassins. Moonglow will stand alone once again, when the time is seen fit, we will help end the war." The Lord Chancellor spoke, and everyone listened, no one had dare make a sound. They respected the words of their Chancellor and in return, he respected them.

Beowulf turned to Sparrow, "Gather our troops and pull them from Sanctus this night. Leave a guard at Tatiana's house, preferably an elf, she's been worried about a drow." Sparrow nodded and hurried out. "We will be focusing on battle training for a little while. Our mages will learn to fight together and how to be deadly in battle. Our warriors seem to be ok, but they will learn to fight as a unit." He looked at each of those present in the eye, "This is not our fight, until it's ready to end."

Everyone rose and stood behind their chairs. Hands gripped the stone tightly as they looked to the front. Beowulf met each of their eyes, he nodded gently, Fong would be proud of this bunch.

Her eyes fluttered ever so lightly. She looked up at him with pain in her eyes. A barely audible moan came from between her lips. Oh what a sick, sick game she was playing, but that is how she preferred to play.

Perhaps she normally would not have been -this- cruel, but in light of recent events it seemed almost natural to her. Unfortunately for Beowulf, the anger Toren had caused her was directed straight at him. Just as Toren loved to watch Audrina squirm, she too felt a pleasure from watching Beowulf.

It took everything she had not to burst out into laughter as he carefully tended to her wounds. To him, she must have looked helpless and weak, but through her eyes he was the weak one. Devoured by a curse. A victim of love. It disgusted her.

She knew exactly where he was headed as he stormed out of the bedroom. Oh, if he only knew. Her plan was working just as she had hoped, perhaps even better. Now all she had to do was lay back in the bed and rest, let Beowulf do all the work.

She had not seen him in quite some time. If she cared, she probably would have been worrying about him, but she didn't. Beowulf would reappear soon, it was inevitable.

It was late in the evening as Audrina patrolled Umbra. She often guarded the bridge or strolled along the streets, making sure there were not strange characters about. Out of the corner of her eye she saw the hideous shade of blue only worn by those of Moonglow.

Beowulf she said quietly to herself.

She glanced towards him and then looked to her left noticing Sabriel walking towards them.

Beowulf, What business do you have here? she spat at him with a grin and a slight wink.

I am here to patrol. he slyly returned to her.

With a slight whisper she leaned in towards him and said, I will meet you at your house.

With that she rode off in the opposite direction of him. She knew it was important to keep up the façade.

When she arrived at his house she immediately walked to his study. So predictable. He sat by himself flipping through the books on his desk. Quickly she made her way to him, hopping onto his lap.

Have you missed me? she said with a grin.

A little

Then perhaps I should leave until you miss me a lot. she said, hopping from his lap, making her way to the door.

She did enjoy playing with him. She was growing accustom to using him for amusement. The rouse went on as they both flirted back and fourth.

Fong wishes to remain in the Consensus of Light. We will redirect our troops towards the Damned after we regroup and train. I want to protect you. he said to her.

He wanted to protect her, did he? Oh how her head spun with ideas. He quickly pushed his body against her as they embraced in a kiss. These ideas must be pushed aside. She had to pay her full attention to Beowulf. Their kiss grew much more passionate as he lifted her from the table. She let out a playful giggle as she looked into his eyes. So foolish. she thought, Wrapped up in what is only a game.

It was time this relationship was consummated. With consummation comes strength. With her strength growing she could see him weakening. He was falling victim to the curse, he was falling victim to love .

It was quiet, the only sounds were those of the horse's hooves. Beowulf trotted through the streets of Umbra. He had begin to miss Audrina, slightly, the curse weakened the longer they were apart. There at the bridge he spotted her, standing alone, trying to look important. As he approached her she greeted him, but out of the corner of his eye he saw other Umbrian soldiers. He wasn't worried about them, only about the secret that he and his love held.

"Beowulf? What business do you have in Umbra?" Audrina asked, she winked ever so slightly towards him.

"This may shock you, but I am indeed patrolling your lands." Beowulf replied calmly. The other Umbrians looked at each other, then back to Beowulf.

"Oh we're fine here. Thank's for looking out though, Sanctus sometimes springs attacks..." Audrina carried on.

"I patrol not for Umbras sake. I'm making sure your soldiers arn't up to anything, ever since that little escapade the other night in Sanctus. I'd like to be sure that the Conclave doesn't plan anything fancy against Moonglow."

A few more words were exchanged before Beowulf turned on his horse and trotted in the other direction. He told them he'd leave when he was good and ready, he knew they wouldn't attack him, not with Audrina there. Quickly she caught up to him.

"Please, meet me at your house. You know your not here to patrol." She asked, fluttering her eyes towards him.

Beowulf shrugged a bit and smiled briefly under his kasa. He rode to the Moongate and made his way to Moonglow, from there he went home. Any other night he would have stayed, would have stirred up the Umbra soldiers. One by one, he'd pick them apart and make his presence known amongst them. But he wanted no fight near his love, if she got in the middle and was hurt, he'd never forgive himself.

Step by step he made his way up the large stone staircase of his house. He pressed against the iron doors and made his way to the study. He knew she'd come looking there first, she was predictable that way. He could usually guess where'd she be trying to look for him. He sat as comfortably as he could in the stone chair, quietly he flipped through his books.

Across the room the doors opened, squeaking slightly. Audrina made her way across the room towards Beowulf, who was quietly reading. She plunked herself in his lap and kissed him passionately.

"Miss me?" she asked sweetly.

Beowulf shrugged a bit, "A bit."

Audrina gasped and hopped back off the chair. "Well maybe I'll leave, then you'll miss me!" Beowulf smirked at her remark.

"Come sit, we both know you don't want to leave. I'd miss you." Beowulf was calm this evening, the curse was mediocre at this point.

The two flirted back and forth, Audrina grew closer and closer, she wanted to strengthen the curse. Beowulf felt consumed, he couldn't think of anything but holding her.

"Tell me about your dark past." Audrina said, she seemed interested.

Beowulf began about how he once helped train her Matron. He told her about the days that he was in charge of the necromancy division in the Dark Order. Battles, tortures, everything a person could imagine. Beowulf seemed nearly lost in his words, he almost enjoyed the memories of his past.

"Do you miss it?" Audrina asked slyly.

Beowulf stroked his goatee gently. To himself, he knew it wasn't really much of a thought. He'd left it behind for a reason and he felt no need to do any of the things to others that he had once done. He knew, however, that Audrina lusted for the thought of torture, kidnappings and wrongful things. For her sake, he'd entertain her.

"Aye, a bit. I miss having no remorse, no regrets. Being able to do anything, the power, riches, knowing that people feared the mere presence of the Dark Order and I."

Audrina seemed oh so pleased with his response. She tugged him closer to her and wrapped her legs tightly around his waist. Gently she kissed his neck, enticing him. Beowulf grabbed a hold of her legs and stood. He carried he to the floor below, where his master bedroom. The night seemed to pass slowly to Beowulf, mainly because he was so caught up in the moment with Audrina. Something seemed off to him about Audrina, he wasn't quite sure. The thought wasn't that important to him though, he was only focused on one thing, love. His undivided love for her.

“Walk in darkness.” She was so familiar with these parting words often given to one Umbran from another. Each time this phrase was said it gave her more insight to its many meanings. For most in Umbra it was not only a way of bidding farewell to one another, but a way of life. She walked in darkness, slept in darkness, trained in darkness, but most importantly she obeyed in darkness. The Matron obeyed her to continue on this game with Beowulf and so she would. The Matron demanded her strength and so she would deliver.

The days passed without much difference in her routine. Her training had become much more intense. Recent duels had proven her to be weak or at least not as strong as she wished. She was tired of falling to the sword of her enemies, let alone the sword of her allies.

When she was not with Beowulf she was out training. She would destroy anything in her path. Her main focus was on organization. It was often she would make a minor mistake that would result in her loss. She placed a face on each of her victims whether they were animal or human. She could see the faces of her former family, the faces of the wretched light bringers. These faces were not a means to ensue hatred, rather a means remind her of what she is fighting for. As she often reminded herself emotions of such great intensity as love or hatred were merely placed before each person to define their weaknesses.

Before she entered Beowulf’s bed each evening she stripped herself of the heavy platemail. There was a sense of insecurity without her armor, as if she was opening herself up to the unknown without any protection. Each night she would tell Beowulf of her training and ask him for his opinion. He was wise in the art of battle, perhaps too wise, for his was after all the enemy. However, she used his wisdom at her disposal, attempting to absorb all the knowledge that she could. On certain occasions she would have him observe her as she fought and then offer his critique.

As her eyes weighed heavy each night she would place her head onto Beowulf’s chest just after placing her lips onto his. She requested each night that he talk to her, talk about anything on his mind. As he would stroke her hair and tell her stories of his past her mind was at ease. The weight of her eyes was always unbearable by the near middle of his story and she would succumb to her fatigue.

Beowulf was a romantic, which was unmistakable. He enjoyed taking Audrina to new exciting places, sweeping her off of her feet and taking care of her. It appeared as though there was nothing Beowulf would not do for her. She knew that it was crucial to make him believe the same, so she devised a romantic evening.

Romance was a foreign term to Audrina. She had not experienced any sort of attention in quite some time. What to do… She thought to herself. Her mind ran over the many dates her ex-husband, Davaran, had taken her on. Yes, I have got it. She knew that Beowulf preferred this time in the afternoon to rest, but she went to him despite the fact.

It did not take her long to persuade him to meet her at the moongate. “Ilshenar, Spirituality” she said. The cave was not far from the moongate that opened to them. Once inside she took him to stand before a waterfall. She could barely remember what it looked like the night Davaran had taken her there. She tried to recall the romance that was once so alive in that cave, but her memory fell short.

“I come here to think. It is very peaceful and dark.” she lied.

“No you do not.” he said back with a smile.

“Yes, I do! What makes you think that I do not?” she asked.

“You would not go somewhere peaceful to think. You are trying to impress me.”

The truth of his statement made their laughs echo through the caves. Beowulf laughing because he thought he had her all figured out. Audrina laughing at his naïveté.

“What do you think about us getting married?” he asked her.

She laughed. “I do hope that was not a proposal.”

“More a suggestion. I wanted to know what you thought.”

“Buy a ring and ask me properly and then you will see what I think.”

“Come with me.” he said.

They walked back to the moongate, hand in hand. It seemed as if no time had passed by the time they had arrived back to Beowulf’s home. As soon as they reached the step Beowulf swept Audrina from her feet and carried her to the bed. He threw her down and said, “Wait here,” and then rushed out of the bedroom door. She laid there for a moment thinking about his suggestion. Marriage she thought to herself. If the Matron wishes it, then it must be done. We must keep up appearances.

She grew impatient. Out of the bed she jumped and then ran up to the study. She saw him standing between two tables with a very concerned look on his face. This serious mood of his was not often a side he showed to Audrina, but tonight he did not hold back. He began to speak.

“Sanctus and Luna are planning an invasion of Umbra. Moonglow is planning to invade Fire Isle at the same time. It will be one swift attack to weaken the Conclave Alliance.” he paused a moment and kissed her cheek gently. “I want to make sure you are protected. I have helped you train, but I want to be your eyes and ears in battle to insure that I know when you need help.”

He pulled out a potion from his pocket and look at it and then to her. “Take this potion and allow me to be your strength.”

Inside she was laughing. Silly Beowulf. Revealing his plans. He can’t be serious she thought to herself. She never needed help before and now was no different. She would just train harder and longer. She was strong. All of these things were true, but she could not say no to his help. She had to make him feel her trust and love. She could not allow her stubborn nature to interfere with her plans. Besides, the potion could only benefit her, right? He would be able to see how swiftly the Consensus pressed against her. It would only enrage him.

She nodded and lifted the potion to her lips. She followed the potion with a swig of liquor from her flask and then kissed his lips gently. Her body went limp as she fell hard into Beowulf. She lay in his arms motionless.

Beowulf sat relaxed on his bench. He stared into his pond, the water trickled down, the noise calming his nerves. Across the roof Audrina appeared on the magical tile. The breeze gently swayed her hair as she approached him. She sat beside him and kissed his cheek gently.

"I want to take you somewhere.." She said, smiling towards him.

"Where?" He asked

"A surprise, somewhere nice. If you don't want to go now, we can go later." She replied.

Beowulf wasn't a sucker to pass up a trip with his love. The two left his home and met up at the moongate of spirituality. Audrina had been spending quite a bit of with Beowulf lately. The curse grew stronger, it was at it's peek, if any. Beowulf had begun to grow obsessed with Audrina, everything about her drove him crazy. He could think of nothing but being with her.

Audrina led Beowulf down the grassy path, along the mountains. He had an idea where they were going, he hoped they wearn't. She pushed through an opening of the cave, parting vines. It was exactly where Beowulf thought they were going. The first place he had ever taken Tatiana for a date. Audrina led him to the small water fall inside the cave, she produced a bottle of ale from her backpack.

“I come here to think. It is very peaceful and dark.” she lied.

“No you do not.” he said back with a smile.

“Yes, I do! What makes you think that I do not?” she asked.

“You would not go somewhere peaceful to think. You are trying to impress me.”

The thoughts of being with Audrina forever soared around in Beo's head. He wanted nothing more than her.

"What would you say to marriage?" He asked her.

"Is that a proposal, or a suggestion?" She asked, smiling slightly.

"I'm much too classy to propose like that. Merely a suggestion."

"Show me a ring, then we'll talk."

Beowulf motioned for her to follow him. He had been running a plan over and over for the past few days. Now he knew he wanted to execute it. Beo didn't want to risk the answer "no" to marriage, so he would fortify it. He told her back to his place, sweeping her off his feet he carried her to the bed room. She gently landed on the bed.

"Stay here." He told her. Quickly he ran upstairs.

The plan was simple but tricky. He knew she thought she was clever, she always tried to out play him. Beowulf enjoyed the games the two had, deep down he could tell she always felt on top. Not this time though. The doors opened and Audrina walked across the library. Impatient, just as he had hoped.

Beowulf lifted a bottle of ale from the table and offered her a drink.

"I'll drink from my flask." She stated.

She had played stubborn, predictable. He offered her an apple, she fed it to the horse. She had "challenged" him now, began to play her game with him. He smiled gently, she was set off course now. It was time for the final move, the words were memorized and the items had been placed in motion.

She seemed slightly alarmed, but too sturdy to be completely worried about attacks. She would more than likely tell her Matriarch, in turn the Conclave would know of the plan. Beowulf had lied, the Conclave would be fooled, Audrina would cooperate. He knew the words "I love you" left her lips towards him, but he had to be sure that she actually felt that way.
Beowulf lifted a potion from the table, he ran his finger down it gently. He knew she'd drink it. Audrina took the potion and swallowed it in one gulp, she followed it down with a swig of her flask. Immediately she fell limp and Beowulf caught her. The Love Potion would only be in set for about an hour after she woke. Long enough for him to propose and marry her, to be together with her forever.

Her mind was trapped in a mirage of love. Outwardly, she lay in the arms of Beowulf, unconcious, but inwardly she was reliving the past. It must have been only a matter of minutes she was unconcious, but her mind decieved her into thinking it was much longer.

A dream, so realistic in appearance, but with a twisted spin. Audrina stood at the end of the isle, dressed in the lightest shade of white. Her hair then was a beautiful shade of blonde and her face was free from any scars. There was a twinkle in her eye that had since gone out. She watched herself stand there, eagerly awaiting the short walk to embrace Davaran. She saw herself as the young, naive, girl that she was, but for once did not deplore. She saw herself in love.

Love is for the weak and foolish that is what she would normally say, but in this euphoric state of mind she seemed to embrace her dream. Memory reminded her of what a glorious feeling it was to be loved and to love, to long for another and know that they were longing for you with an equal desire.

As she looked at the much more fragile and virtuous version of herself she felt her body beginning to yearn for that feeling. A small hint of conciousness attempted to remind her of the true feelings that existed within her, but the powers of the potion were quick to stop it.

The music began to play as she watched herself walk down the isle. She could see the pure look of love upon the face of her soon to be husband. The ceremony happened quickly. She could hear the words "I do" echoing through her head.

Then for a brief moment her eyes were no longer her own. Her eyes belonged to the younger version of herself. Eyes so full of hope and love. As she looked out of those eyes she began to feel as she once did. She looked around the room at everyone in attendance until those eyes came to a dead stop. She caught the eyes of the real Audrina. So empty, hallow, and dark. She felt just as she would have felt in the past, frightened.

The dream was over. Audrina's eyes began to flutter. She was awake.
