DarkCove....
Once a bustling sea farers port town. Now, not many souls remain. Those, too poor, too old, too young, or too sickly inhabit the once infamous territory of the Dark Order.
The Shadow Wraiths had come and done their damage. In one day, one moment in the click of time, they managed to do what many great men & women had tried and failed. Brought the powerful guild to it's knees. Nearly anhilating it all into oblivion. What remains of the soldiers of this dark brotherhood now are scattered like the shards of this realm. Their legendary leader, destroyed.
Frost was not all that was in the air tonight. A hunger. A need. It stirred.
Imryrr paced the confines of the Citizen's Office. The bells chimed four in the predawn darkness lightened only by a single candle on the desk. Her head lifted up sharply at the sound of the bells. Her mother had wanted her to wait up for her so that they could discuss more about Imryrr's visit to the hostel and Ditto's visit to the Void Temple. But, Ditto had not yet arrived. This was unusual now since her mother required more rest to recover her energies to sustain the security for the rebuilding of Armunn Keep.
Imryrr shook her head and muttered to herself. "Mother's wildness seems only to be surpassed by her stupidity."
She required Ditto's magic to keep the Shadow Wraiths at bay from their home. Or it would be their home, once the construction was done. With nothing better to do but wait, she decided to check on the construction and perhaps meet her mother outside once she came home.
Imryrr curled the D|O emblazoned cloak around her shoulders and walked out into night. The moon was only a sliver, making it darker than usual. Barely a few feet from the Citizen Office and she could already see a light from inside the warped keep. Quickening her pace to get to the steps of it, she saw her mother laying in a heap on the floor of the building, her breathing coming in rasps.
Just as she leaned down to put a hand on her mother, an eerie sound penetrated the silence. A sound she knew all too well. The almost musical voice....the sound that both beckoned to and chilled one's soul. The sound of a Shadow Wraith. Imryrr detected movement. First on one side and then the other. To keep herself safe, she swooped her mother up in her arms and walked into the center of the building. They or it seemed to keep coming this time. They hadn't done that before. Not since the magicks had been in place. The ones her mother used her very life energies to provide.
She looked down at her mother's face. She was still breathing, but only barely. Imryrr shook her and spoke firmly. "Mother!" nothing.
"Mother, wake up!"
An evil female's laughter seemed to blow out the light. Imryrr stood in total darkness now, with her mother in her arms. Muttering a curse, Imryrr lowered her mother to the floor and stood over her. Looking from one side, to the other, she crouched down in a predatory stance and pulled her double daggers from their sheaths. She peered as hard as she could to see ...anything. But there was nothing to see. Something hit her head with a hard, small THUMP. Growling in frustration, she turned swiftly around and struck out. Empty air. There was nothing. The nothing was her enemy. How was she to fight that?
"Sometimes you can see more with your eyes closed, little sister."
Imryrr closed her eyes with the memory of her brother's voice in her mind. That faint, female laughter to her left. And she almost turned...but, to her right...another sound closing in quickly, like air penetrating air. She raised her buckler as something hit it, and at the same time, with her free arm, swipped again, but this time she connected with something. She then felt her wrist twist and her dagger went flying.
Almost instinctually, she moved her hand and grabbed. She lifted up something heavy enough to be a man. Surprised by her "catch", she opened her eyes. A picture, a memory? of her brother, Daerauko, flashed in her.. mind? just as she was caught off guard by a sudden cold inside herself. A spike of all that is Pain. All that could be imagined as pain penetrated the hand that held this being. She released it, luckily throwing it away from her as she did so. This cold pain seemed to journey into her bones. Her soul. Her very being. She cared not for fighting it or for protecting her mother. She could think of nothing but this mind-shattering pain. Her body quivered to the ground.
Could she hear her mother's voice? Who was she talking to? Father? She was asking...no, begging...him for something. But what?
Imryrr's white on white eyes opened suddenly. She was alive. There was daylight coming in from the windows. She saw her mother standing nearby, over her, with her back turned. She was going to sit up but became paralyzed with pain. She forced her mouth open, but the pain was too intense. The movement too difficult. Her body began spasming in the bed. And then, there was no bed. Blackness settled in. That torturing cold. Was that to be her life? This blackness? This pain in her soul? There was that laughter. There was her brother's face. There was the Nothingness.... Sweet sweet rapture..... _________________

Ditto sat on the grass outside the Keep. The door only a few feet away. Her sketching, interrupted, when the old servant woman opened the heavy door and motioned for her to come.
The Lady Armunn rose quickly and entered the Keep. Her heart pounding with worry and curiosity. As she stepped inside, the old woman spoke quietly in her gruff, accented voice. "De young miss, she back asleep. Sirrah Bloodmoon's juju done did bad tings to her. She all feverish now. She gon' die soon she is."
Ditto frowned and gave the old woman a brief, hard look. There was a time when she thought the old witch lady was amusing with her constant negativity, but now, it was annoying, and somewhat frightening.
"You hush that kinda talk, Jua. You are always jealous anytime someone other than you tries to doctor someone up. Just cause you could na help Imy is no reason ta be morbid!" Ditto snapped.
The old woman shrugged. "Mebe yes, mebe no he help young miss. Time will judge dat."
Ditto hurried inside to her daughter's bedside and kneeled down to check her. Jua had been right about Imy having a fever. She was hot, but not critically so. She rushed to the wash basin and prepared a cool cloth.
The old witch was just bringing her creaking bones into the room when the mute servant girl, Jhanna, nearly ran her over in her hurry to bring more cloths into the room.
"I need ice, Jua. Lots of ice." Ditto called out.
Imryrr settled herself comfortably next to the eerie flame in the pit. Tarothin Armunn's throne was a good fit for her height, she thought contentedly. The flames flickered when it started to snow. Snow? In the throne room? Imryrr looked out and as far as her eyes could see there was snow. A black freezing snow. A wasteland. Spikes of cold pain shot through her body.
Imryrr struggled to sit up in bed, but her limbs felt useless, and the pain in her back caused her to cease movement. Cubes of ice lay all around her. Was this yet another dream? Looking to the side she spotted her mother, a happy grin on her face. Imryrr fought against the pain to speak, and when she did, it was loud. "ICE? I ..I..am fr..freezing and you cov..cover me in ..ice?!?"
Ditto's grin was replaced by a worried frown. "You were talkin much better earlier. You didna stutter so much." Imryrr was waiting for her to answer and so she continued, "The ice is for the fever that broke just recently. I'm sorry for the coldness, Imy, but it is na the ice that is makin ya that way and you know it."
Imryrr relaxed herself against the pillow, easing the pain somewhat. "I d...do not stutter, mo...mother." She growled out at her mother, but more so to herself when she realised she was stuttering. But it wasn't her speech that was the problem. It was the pain. She struggled to fold her arms against her chest. Just this small feat was a major task.
Ditto studied her daughter carefully. "How do ya feel?"
"Fine." Imryrr mumbled.
"That's a lie" Ditto mumbled back. "Any weaker or any stronger than when Galnor was here?"
"I feel fine, mother. Now leave it be."
Ditto smiled mischievously. "Your talkin is better."
"Good. And I will get even better if I am not subjected to your consistant annoyances." Imryrr's tone became more even with each word.
The Lady Armunn's eyes gleamed. "And it's gettin better an better the more mean ya get."
"Then allow me to get even meaner --"
Through the rest of that day Imryrr's health improved. Her speech became less and less difficult. Her upper body movement improved, somewhat, as the pain there began to subside. But the pain in her lower body remained constant. Many hours had passed since Lord Bloodmoon had left, and Ditto worried on Imryrr's condition. True, she was better, but there seemed to be side effects. She knew these side effects were humiliating to her daughter but said nothing. Ditto tried to keep her in a more possitive frame of mind by only stating improvements. This ignoring of the facts only served to irritate Imryrr further and she constantly snapped at Ditto hatefully, until the Dark Lady was near tears. By eveningtide the next day she had managed to blame Ditto for everything. Her pain, the slow construction of the Keep, the chaos in town, and the Shadow Wraiths themselves. None of that bothered Ditto. She knew Imryrr was suffering incredible pain and humiliation. But, it was when Imryrr struck a chord that Ditto faultered. Imy began blaming her mother for what happened to Tarothin. Everything her daughter said about it rang true to her. Tarothin had stayed of his own will, yes, but he used his own body to try to protect her. If he had not done that, it might have been him here instead of Ditto.
