I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.

Nightshade stood holding the doll in her hand, it was a replica of herself. A small replica, very valuable and not easy to come by. She had taken her own guardian puppet who now sat useless in the corner, and duplicated it, shrinking it down to doll size

Mournful and Never-ending Remembrance.

She didn’t understand him or this. Why was she even fulfilling his request? She really didn’t know. Sighing softly she dressed the tiny doll, in the dark- bluish green garments much like those she herself often wore. Quietly she stared at the doll and her mind filled with memories of what once was, what had once been…almost. Strangely she felt peaceful.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.

Staring down at her likeness as she placed it in the velvet box, she knew that she was trusting him, giving him this, as the vulnerabilities this doll held for her were great. Her own hair adorned its head, soft and thick as ever. She had used her own blood to dye its lips. She was a silly fool, shaking her head softly she placed the lid on the box, and stared at it. He had known she would do it for him at once, even though she had said she would do it when she was good and ready.

Caught from some unhappy master whom unmerciful Disaster
Followed fast and followed faster till his songs one burden bore—
Till the dirges of his Hope that melancholy burden bore
Of “Never—nevermore."

Her eyes turned to the window upon which her mockingbird had so often perched and once more a remembrance of his absence was set upon her, he could not deliver the doll for her, she would have to deliver such in person. She shuddered and opened her bedroom door.

“Get thee back into the tempest and the Night’s Plutonian shore!
Leave no black plume as a token of that lie thy soul hath spoken!
Leave my loneliness unbroken!—quit the bust above my door!
Take thy beak from out my heart, and take thy form from off my door!”
Quoth the Raven, “Nevermore."
