Title: Gargoyles in Caina

Author: Rune Artisem - OES

Interesting times we live in, isn't it? Why, just earlier this fine day I ran into a bit of trouble, although it was nothing for a necromancer of my abilities. It started when I realized I was out of brimstone for my experiments in my lab.

Annoyed with the fact that I had forgotten to stock up on this, I returned to Caina so that I might fetch some from the Necromantic Scholomance. I whispered the words of recall, and within a blink I was standing on the snowy ground directly in front of Golgotha. To my surprise, I was attacked upon arrival. Not by the silly forces of Light, but by gargoyles. There were at least six or seven that I could see. Quickly I ran towards the direction of that disgusting Hospice and hid myself. There were more of the creatures patrolling the streets of Caina. "How dare they!" I thought to myself, when I realized that the Scholomance could be in danger. Feeling a bit panicked, I ran towards the Scholomance. To my horror two of the disgusting creatures where inside, tossing tomes about like they were mere garbage! I used most of my power in destroying both of the foul vermin almost immediately. I left the Scholomance with a feeling of total disgust.

That feeling quickly changed to fear as soon as I laid my eyes upon the next creature on the streets of Caina. The two horses did not last long against the infernal might of the balron.

Quickly, I ran towards Golgotha as I knew that a balron was too much for myself to handle. I quickly scurried to the foot of the tower to find a gargoyle mage fighting against Gray Hunter of H^D, Merrick of OES, and a member of the Council of Mages who I would later find out goes by the name of Sal Veya. The creature did not last long, as it was no match for Gray Hunter's strength.

None of the warriors had time to breath, as the balron quickly emerged from behind Golgotha, and I could easily see it was after myself! I ran towards the Temple of Obilvion and hid. There I saw another of the gargoyles snooping around. When I knew I was safe from the balron, I revealed myself and brought swift death to the gargoyle. I regained what mana I could and returned to the steps of Golgotha. It had been some time since I had seen so many corpses littering Caina... Many of the forces of the Shadow Conclave had arrived, and were combating the infernal beast. It would have been a complete slaughter on our part had it not been for Dissident who was commanding a white wyrm to do battle with the balron. Although the balron was winning, the wyrm gave us the time we needed to counterattack.

Arrows and magic were hurled at the elder daemon as it fought against the wyrm. The balron then let loose a scream of pain, and then collapsed upon the grounds of Caina. Oh, how Obilvion was pleased in gaining the essence of this creature! A fool who followed Minax made an attempt on some of the wounded, but was quickly put in its place.

After the fighting was settled, I order what necromancers that were there to perform a search of Caina. These creatures were after something, and I wanted to make sure it was found... And bring it before the Master.... But there was no luck in finding any thing out of the ordinary. I then learned that Gray Hunter had found a gargoyle tome off of the gargoyle mage he dispatched earlier. I quickly found him and took a look at it... Sadly though, my speciality is in death and the magic that surrounds it for I could not understand anything the book contained. However, I have made sure that the book has been given to the powers that govern Caina....

It shall not be long before we learn why these creatures attacked the dark city... Then they shall know what terror they have brought upon themselves!
