You know, Im not sure if I ever told you the story of Shinny Mcbones..
Mayeb I should relate that tale. Or the tragic tale of two cookies, torn asunder by the absense of milk. Oh wait you wanted to learn more about our history righ right.. boring stuff that. Where was I? Oh yes Lefty was holding a competition in Nujelm for miners! Anyway he yammered about his rules and of the fine weather.
A few moments were given for folks to get into place and then Lefty yelled “GO” and sand began to kick up and fly all over. Several folks were blinded and left sputtering with a gritty taste in their mouths, there was a crash and the ground fell out between two miners near the shore line. A cave hole had been discovered! Many paused to glance at it but most kept right on mining sand. Time seemed to just fly right by and soon Lefty was handing out the prizes. A pair of books entitled, “A Treatise on Tomb Robbery – Signed by Lefty”
The winners seemed a bit befuddled but glad to have won the contest. Lefty then explained he would need a lot of logs to get the hole supported enough for the group to explore. He voiced a hope that the guards lumberjacks would aid with this and then went off on his way, speaking of many ‘get rich quick’ schemes. And that seemed like that was all Lefty wanted of the guard.
But things are never so easy that is why after 7 days had passed peacefully...
The guard waited once more as the gem turned that tell-tale shade of red. And once more they were surprised to see Lefty, the showman of Nujelm come forth through a gate to greet them. A simple message he had to deliver to the guard, “Your fired.”
The Royal guard was immediately confused and asked “fired from what?” to which he explained he never received a single log to aide with the construction of supports for the tunnel. And that because of this disappointment he had found aide through another group, led by a smartly dressed man in red. He bantered briefly about maybe when it was all done he would sell tickets for the guard to go on tours there but for now he was much too busy to deal with them. Lefty asked that they pass this word on to Jade and departed.
Jade arrived sometime later and heard the news of Lefty with some concern. It seems there was reason to believe part of the papers they needed to summon the ancient ones may be down below the surface of Nujelm. She shook her head and explained that she had other reasons for the guard to rally this night, the blighted one’s illness was growing worse and Clainin had worked on a possible cure for it to try. If it failed, the guard had orders to put the poor beast out of its misery, left it infect even more magical creatures with it’s blight.
Upon arriving in Ilshenar, at the cave where the Blighted One was housed, a red masked mage appeared and jeered the guard. He says “I will not allow you to interfere with ‘her’ plans any further, I will put an end to this just as that paladin put an end to Relvinian” then he rushed forward to snatch the flask Jade was carrying, and then leaped the fence into the pen of the unicorn. He beckoned it to him, calling it a beautiful creation. He closed his eyes muttering an incantation in an uncommon tongue, behind him wild magic flurried about, forming a strange whirling vortex, for the slightest moment the collective crowd blinked. And they were gone. Leaving only the swirling vortex of wild magic to continue whipping the air of the silent cave.
