Research Log, Wraiths.

by Alucard de'Lenfent.

A small leatherbound journal containing notes upon research into the Wraiths.

A Wraith begins its "life" after death in a state known as an 'Enfant'. The Enfant is wrapped in a Caul, an ectoplasmic covering that protects them during this larval stage of their development. The Caul warps the perceptions of the Enfant until it is removed by one known as a 'Reaper'.

A Wraith's body is known as its corpus, formed of a substance known only as plasm. This plasm is the material that composes everything within the Shadowlands. Wraiths can be killed by other Wraiths, but this is only a temporary condition, as their body will reform.

Wraiths become weak and vulnerable unless they feed upon pathos - or emotion - which they obtain by draining the emotions of the living. Feeding upon Pathos recharges the Wraiths innate abilities, much like a vampire feeds upon blood to sustain its powers.

Manifestation amongst the Mortal world. Possession. Control of a mortals dreams. The enhancement of Entropy. Control over Shadows.

These are only the powers I have observed to be present amongst the Netherkin, doubtless there are many, many more.

Just like a Vampire possesses a 'beast' the Wraith has a 'Shadow' with which it must contend. The Shadow is a deep part of the Wraith, and can take its own form, albeit a powerful and uncontrollable one. A Wraith who cannot overcome its Shadow is doomed to an existence of torment and agony.
