The artifact is able to 'cleanse' vampirism from a subject's soul thus restoring their humanity. The procedure is not without a price, or side effects. The process requires a person who will "vouch' for the vampire. The vampire and the one vouching for afflicted must hold hands and touch the harp, reciting a binding oath. A bard must play the harp one time after each oath is recited, then the magics within the artifact then cleanse the vampiric corruption from the vampire's soul.

Regretably, the cleansing process leaves the vampire with an incomplete soul that requires the pieces to somehow be filled in. This is where the true cost of the procedure comes in for both parties as the artifact then binds their souls together so that they share the parts that have been cleansed away from the vampire. The effects of the binding are quite irrevocable and are as follows: Both party's fates will be bound forever, for good or for ill.

It is interesting to note that there are some positive side effects of the procedure. The bond is sufficiently powerfull that it prevents either party from being turned into a vampire, from being sacrificed, or from having their souls corrupted save through their own actions... Additional benefits include the pair being able to draw on eachother's strenght at need and perhaps because of this the pair is almost impossible to kill singlehandedly. Indeed this last was apparantly why the artifact was disassembled to prevent it's "abuse."

Here be the oaths

Vampire: I (name) do hereby renounce my vampiric nature and repudiate the corrpution it has lain on my soul. I further more acknowledge my need and desire to have my soul bound to (voucher), irrevocably joining our fates for all of eternity.

Voucher: I (name) do hereby vouch safe for the good conduct of (vampire's name) for all of time and furthermore, as proof of my intentions, I agree that my soul shall be bound ever more to theirs for good or ill.
