Claudette returned home after a few days of being away. She had gone to a nearby farm to help with the animals and practice her veterinary skills. She always found her work there very satisfying and enjoyed it very much. She knew she had much still to learn and had decided to devote more time to her studies. Perhaps one day she too would be able to tame the majestic unicorns she had always loved.

As she approached her door she noticed a message on her bulletin board. Putting down her bags, she took the note and immediately recognized the handwriting. Melior had left her a simple note that read "I hope you are doing well." Various emotions encompassed Claudette. She was happy to know that he had stopped by and yet she wondered if he missed her and thought about her as often as she thought about him. She tried not to but she couldn't help but wonder how he was and whether or not he was happy.

As she readied herself for bed, she reached into her nightstand and withdrew a small box. Taking a deep breath, she opened it and revealed the beautiful emerald ring Melior had given to her when he proposed. Folding the small message, she placed it alongside the ring. With a frown upon her face, she tucked the box back into the drawer, blew out her candle and let the constant chirping of the crickets lul her to sleep.
