|
Melior sighed as he read over the last letter he had received from Claudette. Lately, everything had been so busy. It had been a couple weeks since he had received this letter and he was only now responding.
All his life he had felt strong dedication to the Virtues. He had sworn when his parents were killed to devote his life to protecting innocents. He had fallen in love with Claudette the first time he saw her. He had been taken with her vive and good spirits.
He realized now that he had been placing her as second place in importance, his vow to the virtues, coming first. But, what could he do? He was torn between doing the greater good, and his own selfish desires.
She is a strong patient woman to have dealt with me for even this long
I do not wish to slacken my duty.. nor lose the woman I love..
He penned the only thing he was capable of thinking clearly.
Dear Beloved,
Please, arrange one of your wonderful picnics. I think it is past time I took a break from guard and study. We have much to discuss.
I long to hear your voice and see your beautiful face. You know, I have always cared about your happiness.
Until next we can be together,
Love Always,
Melior
He sent for a messenger to have it taken to Claudette by courrier.
He sat back and sighed, still trying to figure out what he was going to do. _________________ "Art and architecture must combine to create something larger than either." ~ Robert Campbell |

Claudette heard a faint knock on her door and walked over to it. Upon opening it she found a messenger standing there with an envelope for her. “Greetings” she said to the man. He only bowed slightly and handed her the envelope. She handed him some gold coins and went inside to see who had written her.
She sat at her table and opened the letter. The first thing that struck her upon opening the letter was the opening words. “Dear Beloved” it read. She glanced down and noticed the signature “Love always, Melior.” Although she smiled, something bothered her about this particular letter. It was rather uncharacteristic, they always referred to each other as Arwenamin and Aratoamin, and this letter mentioned neither. She wondered why it had taken so long for Melior to respond and she hoped everything was well. She couldn’t hide the fact that she was hurt by it. She knew Melior and loved him for the kind, loving man he was. This letter however gave her an uneasy feeling.
She went up to her writing desk and took out a fresh piece of parchment.
My Dearest Aratoamin,
You have no idea how worried I was about you! Your lack of response to my last letter had me wondering whether something had happened to you while on duty but alas it seems you were just busy. I too agree that we have much to discuss.
I shall plan a picnic for us for this Thursday eve at Nine o’clock. We can meet at the Freehold and go from there. I hope this is a satisfactory time for you, if not please send word of when a more convenient time is.
Love,
Claudette
Claudette sealed the letter and opened the door to see if the messenger was still about. She found him sitting under a tree resting and walked over to him. “Would you kindly deliver this back to the man who sent you?” She handed him the envelope. As he stood up and smiled at her he said “Of course M’lady.” She then handed him some more gold and wished him a safe journey. _________________

Melior looked up from his boot shining to see the messenger returning to him, with a letter.
Wow, this guy is fast
"That for me?" he asked.
"Yes, Sir! It sure is."
Melior took the letter and broke it's seal. Reading the invititation, he felt even uneasier. It wasn't right for this wonderful woman to put her life on hold for him, while he pursued his own life's goal. He had always told her that whatever made her happy, would also make him happy. That was even when she had been with Drayden.
Sighing heavily, he penned a response.
Dearest Arwenamin,
Sorry I have been so out of touch lately, I assure you, I would never seek to scare you.
This picnic sounds excellent. Even if it is inconvenient for me, I shall attend.
So many things to talk about, yet I do not wish to in paper. I hope you understand, my Love.
Love Always,
Your Aratoamin,
Melior
He made sure to tip the fellow handsomely as he handed the letter to the messenger.
They sure train those guys well
He finished his left boot, and started on his right, as he thought ahead to Thursday's picnic. _________________ "Art and architecture must combine to create something larger than either." ~ Robert Campbell |
