In a manner which can only be described as "obviously subtle", Bailos made his first return trip to Sanctus since his abdication. It was late, yes, but that was the only attempt at "cover" he made. Recalling in plain sight directly in front of the Hostel was certainly not what you would call...covert.

Sporting a heavy robe and of course, his Ring of Sanctus, he nonchalantly strolled into the doors of Blackguard. Several dozen doors later, he arrived to the familiar sight of the throne room. Well of course it wasnt a throne room anymore...now just "a meeting place" for those less bold than he. Shutting the door behind him, four guards playing cards near the front of the room decided to take notice. Nudging each other, cross-checking what they thought they saw, they scrambled to grab their weapons and gear up, the fourth guard slamming down his cards in disgust as he discarded his straight flush.

Bailos turned so his back faced the door from whence he just entered, and a wry grin graced his face. "Be ye Bailos?"
A nod was his reply. Stumbling over the words a bit, the "lead guard" continued.
Then as per the order of the Lord Justice of Sanctus, Spawn, and authorized by General Baron Mordegan, I do hereby arrest ye in the name of Sanctus!

I have come for nothing more than sentiment. Let me be.

The guards began unsheathing their weapons. This was acceptably interpreted as a "no" by Bailos. Reacting in a manner of frustrated, yet expected disappointment, Bailos reached his hand up and pulled down a beautiful cutlass from a wall display near the door. Its glorious golden hilt and shining blade instantly took a turn for the worse. A strange tendril of a green energy seeped up the blade as the weapon darkened. The very soul of it seeming to groan under its corruption. The holy blade now turned a sickening gray.

Taken back for but a moment, the guards had thought it best to strike. Leaving the blade in plain sight at his side, Bailos took two deliberate steps forward as the men charged. The youngest of the guards was first, eager to prove himself. In a classic rookie mistake, the young chap waited until he was but five feet away before drawing his broadsword.

With all the skill and moxy of a seasoned veteran, Bailos lifted his blade above his head, gripped it with hands and made on fel swoop on the trainee. One slash, right where the neck meets the shoulder...the blood was glorious.

Quickly withdrawing the blade from its home, he spun round once and parried the blow of the second guard. Deflecting it to the side, he stepped forward and planted his foot behind the second guard and threw him to the ground. Moving swiftly he parried the well timed attack of the third guard. Grabbing the wrist of the man with his off hand, Bailos guided the guards weapon home into the gut of the second guard still on the ground...

Two down...

An elbow jab to the stomach sent the third guard back momentarily. Then a well placed kick to the chest of the struggling guard, sent him reeling back into the fourth and his weapon flying in the air.

Stepping forward, Bailos' eyes met the two guards and he could see fear, but strength. The fourth guard stooped to help his comrade who landed awkwardly and hurt his leg.

Picking up the stooped guard by the collar of his brestplate, Bailos 'helped' him up to eye level. Their eyes were locked in a desperate stare of hate. The wraith simply moved his blade into the man's chest cavity. Slowly. Until it came out the other side. His gurgled breath signaling the end of the third guards life.

Dropping the corpse, Bailos turned his attention to the fouth guard, still left on the floor, defenseless, clutching his leg. A tear ran down the man's cheek, but he did say with courage....I am ready to die

Ignoring the man, Bailos stepped on him and walked over him. Dropping his blood stained weapon on the floor, he moved for the throne. Carefully moving it to the side revealed a small box hidden in a cavity of the wall. Taking it out and opening it, Bailos help a rather large key up to the light, then tucked it away and threw the box to the floor. Walking back out of the room, he stepped on the fourth guard once more and took pleasure in the cry of pain.

Stopping to pause briefly, he looked back to the man and with a smile, he said...You should probably have that looked at

Spawn dismounted his mount in front of the Castle Blackguard, with two Sanctus soldiers guarding the front entrance. As he passed the soldiers, they gave a strong salute and move to the side. His leather gloved hand grabbed the door handle as his arm gave a bit of a pull to open the steel door.

When he entered the castle, Spawn took a long slow glance around the throne room. First at the three deceased guards scattered around the room, then by the injured guard who was being attended to by some of the local healers, finally the murder weapon which was lying near the throne.

After a few moments of examining the scene, a soldier approached Spawn and gave him a strong salute.

"What do we have here soldier?" asked Spawn still taking a glimpse around the throne room.

"A massacre sir a horrible massacre" replied the soldier. The soldier seemed a very upset and angry about what had taken place in the throne room. Spawn nodded to the soldier and walked to one of the slain guards to examine him. Once near the corpse he kneeled to one knee and began to examine the wound which was located where the neck meets the shoulder.

Spawn then walked towards the lone guard who survived the ordeal. The guard attempted to stand up in respect towards the Chief Justice but couldn't due to his injury.

"No need my friend... Relax and tell me what happened" Spawn said kneeling down to the guard who was sitting in one of the chairs.

"I tried sir... I did... He killed those guards... Butchered them!" said the guard who was trying to keep in his anger.

"Who? Who did this?" Spawn asked as he placed his hand on the shoulder of the guard.

"B...Bailos! It was Bailos sir! We tried to arrest him!" replied the guard who was becoming much distressed. Spawn then nodded to healers who helped the guard leave the throne room. He then walked towards the sword near the throne room which was tainted with the guards' blood. He slowly placed his hand on the handle of the blade and picked it up.

"Take this to my office for examination" Spawn said as he handed the blood soaked sword to one of nearby soldiers. The soldier nodded as he placed the sword into a chest and walked out of the throne room.

Spawn slowly stood up and watched as the guards' corpses were being placed into wooden coffins. Once the bodies were sealed into their appropriate coffins they were carried out of the throne room by the guardsman and soldiers. After the last corpse left the throne room, He took one last look around the throne room before walking towards the front door. The room was empty with the exception of him and a lone guard who was stationed at the door.

"S...Sir what will happen now?" asked the guard. Spawn stopped in front of the guard and looked into his eyes.

"Now Bailos will pay... He is finished if he dares step foot into this city again" replied Spawn as he patted the guard on the shoulder before leaving the throne room and the castle. The guard nodded and walked out of the room following the Chief Justice.

The serious of events that unfolded crossed the lands quickly and Jeren Yendorin, who had just completed his full day of work and one of the last hard days left to the rebulding of his return heard the news of Lord Bailos and the memories of the bloody battles of his younger years were so clear.

As he sat outside on his porch enjoying the late smells of the evening he began writing to send a messenger in regards to the recent carnage that unfolded. His previous stance on the virtues were no different and the compelling feeling to ensure the safety from the likes of individuals or organizations of evil possessed him to request the following:

Chief Justice of the Order of Sanctus Lord Spawn,

I have written this eve to request a position amongst the ranks of many others to protect the lands of Sanctus. I have chosen such course due to the recent outbreak of murder taken place. No citizen or soldier should have to experience such murderous insecurities in which has been brought forth in recent days. In this I decree as to all that read this my witness that I wish to partake in the training to secure and bring further peace to the Order of the Sanctus, the lands there-in, and all of those in which we ally.

I will seek counsel at the earliest in which I am able unless summons sooner then I am able to travel on my own account. Furthermore, I wish to proclaim that I have previous experience in a military structure, disciplined and educated in the knowledge of the principles and virtues that should govern all lands.

**You cant shake the notion that the following letter is written in what resembles blood.**

My Good Spawn,

It has recently come to my attention that I am requested, at the behest of your Office, to be forcibly detained whenever and if ever necessary. I am likewise disappointed in you for not writing me yourself by now. I would generously offer to stand against whatever imaginary charged you would throw at me, but I hardly think there is a court in the entire universe that at this point, would be able to give me a fair and completely unbiased trial by jury.

I do hope the festival went well and that you are still of sound health...but...do stick with me, I do write with a purpose in mind.

As is the natural order of things, occasionally, a forest requires some pruning. A divine spark ignites a blaze, by lightning or by human hand, which consumes the wood and tinder. This holy bath of flame clears the dead wood and opens up the lush rays of the canopy to pour to the forest floor...an opportunity for life to start anew. That time has come. As was my mission, the old carcass was burnt away, the ashes fading into history. Now rises a new chapter, however clearly my calculations were off. A correction must be made.

I have cause to meet with you. I will go come alone. I bid you do the same but whether or not your chose to join me...accompanied, matters not. I will speak with you, face-to-face. You are a man of Justice. As appauling as it may be for you to hear, I am as well. If you've done your research, I filled the office you presently occupy many moons ago. Think on it. Pray on it. Then we will speak with clear minds. For the greater good, yes?

Commendably Yours,
Bailos

Lord Bailos,

I have received your letter and I thank you for your concern for my well being. But I'm afraid I must place all pleasantries aside and focus on the matter at hand. It is true that I have placed warrants for your arrest. However, these charges are not "imaginary" as you put them but sinister in nature.

First, you come to Sanctus and attempt to rule it under circumstances which I consider obscene even to this day. Second, you looted Castle Blackguard of treasures that the people of this good city worked their hardest for. And finally your most vile act that you came into Sanctus murdered three honorable guards and left one with substantial injury. These crimes Lord Bailos are not imaginary but evil and punishable by law.

If you wish to see me I make your acquittance. We shall meet on neutral ground and I shall be alone. If you are true to your word Lord Bailos, we shall meet at the music hall located in northern section of the city of Britain in the Trammel Facet. The date and time I shall leave to you my friend. Good day to you.

Spawn
Chief Justice of Sanctus
Order of Sanctus
