Mallory sighed softly as she looked around the library. Many days had passed since she had last seen her beloved Smitticles. She knew he had departed on a journey, but she was sure he would have returned by now. She had passed by his home a few times but had not seen any sign of his return. She decided to write a letter and leave it for him when he returned. She pulled out a piece of parchment and began writing...
My darling Smitticles,
I trust that this letter will find you well. Too many days have passed since I have felt the warmth of you arms around me. Although miles have seperated us, there has not been a day that has passed that you have not been on my mind and in my heart. Every night I would look to the stars and hope that you might also be looking and feel my love for you. I pray to the Virtues that you will be brought home safe. Please contact me when you return so we might once again be together. There is much that has occurred and I eagerly await your reply.
With unfailing love,
Mallory
She sealed the envelope and wrote Smitticles' name on the front. She then journeyed to the Vesper home and left it for him there. _________________ Good friends are like stars. You don't always see them but you always know they are there...

Smiticles was walking up from the shores of the Vesper west bank after taking in his regular nightly swim when he noticed the message left at his front door. Rushing the rest of the way up the path he snatched the note from his box hoping it was from Mallory. The familiar script on the envelope filled his heart with joy.
"I've been so busy lately and traveling so much I've been greatly remiss in not contacting her", he thought to himself. "I must tell her I'm home now and that I long to see her once again."
My dearest Mallory;
Yes, I am now home, having just recently arrived back in Vesper. I too have missed you greatly and not a day has passed that you were not in my thoughts. I too would look up into the sky at night and wonder if you were sharing the same night sky as I.
I am safe and sound but, as is typical in some of my journey's I suffered minor injuries at the hands of various creatures. Bandaging myself or praying for divine healing helped but it was the thought of your caring eyes and your loving touch that truly healed my wounds and gave me the fortitude to venture onwards. Thoughts of you guided me home once more.
Fret not now for I am well healed and look forward to being with you once again. I must tell you of the most wonderful places I discovered and of the strange elven city I stumbled upon near Yew. It is a city of beautiful art and beautiful people. For an adventurer such as myself it looks to be a source of some wonderous exploration.
I am going to rest a bit now but later this evening I will venture out and seek your company. Until then my sunshine I will dream of you.

Mallory had decided to take a bit of a vacation, but it had turned into something far different. While wandering through the land of Ilshenar she came across an old tavern. She decided to explore it and while doing so became hungry. She went downstairs and found that it had been a while since the provisions had been stocked, but there was a most lovely bunch of mushrooms that looked as they had been picked only yesterday. Certainly the owner wouldn't mind if she made a small meal of them. She left a short note as well as some gold coins on the counter and made her way to the Unicorn Pond with the mushrooms in her satchel. She sat in front of the pond and began eating the mushrooms. They were the most delightful tasting mushrooms she had ever had tasted. She would certainly have to bring Smiticles back here and show him. As she ate she noticed she was getting a bit drowsy and the sun was becoming warmer. She cupped her hands and dipped a bit of the cool water from the pond and wiped her face, and took a cool drink. Still a bit drowsy Mallory made her way to the shade of a nearby tree and spread a blanket on the ground and laid down to take a short rest.
Her dreams began most pleasantly at first, a beautiful meadow with flowers gently blowing in the breeze. Smiticles there by her side, holding her hand in his. Unfortunately it wasn't long before the dream turned dark, into the nightmare from her past. It was night and the wind was blowing and howling. She looked around and couldn't find Smiticles anywhere. She was running as fast as she could and suddenly she was in the forest again, something was following her, she could feel the breath on the back of her neck. Her heart raced and finally she fell unable to run any further. She looked up and suddenly her dream changed again and she was in a cave, a cavern, somewhere she had never been before. Surrounding her were the men from Legion, Vaen, Mave, Liam... and there was Smiticle, Claudette and Brianhas. In front of her was a well, it seemed to be calling to her. Everyone watched her to see what she would do.
Her eyes fluttered open and she was in a healers shop, only they spoke a language she was unfamiliar with. The healer looking down at her was an older woman with kind eyes. She applied a cool damp cloth to Mallorys forehead and smiled slightly and said one word... "mushrooms" In that instant Mallory understood that the mushrooms were poison and had caused her to become ill. She wondered if these were the same mushrooms that Smiticles had warned her about that the gypsies cooked with. She tried to sit up but her head felt like it was going to split open and she cried out. The woman held a small cup of something to Mallory's lips and Mallory took only a sip. It smelled horrible and tasted worse. She could feel it rising in the back of her throat. Luckily only a sip was needed to help her sleep.
The next time she opened her eyes it was growing dark outside and the older healer had been replaced by a kind looking gentleman. He asked her how she was feeling, and dispite the slight headache, Mallory was feeling much better and sat up slowly. The room didn't tilt and twirl so she remained sitting and talked to the man. She asked him how long she had been there and was surprised when he told her she had been there nearly a week. He took her hand in his and looked at her gravely. He told her that she was extremely lucky for the mushrooms she ate had been known to kill the strongest of warriors. He asked her if she had ever eaten them before, and she shook her head. He seemed puzzled and patted her hand softly. The man reminded her very much of the way Mister Poet had taken care of her while recovering from the effects of the skulls abducting her. She rubbed her arm as she thought about this and it brought tears to her eyes. The man looked at her but never asked any questions. Mallory asked if she could repay him in any way and he simply shook his head. She laid back down and covered herself with a blanket and drifted back to sleep.
The next morning as the sun began to rise it came through a window and woke Mallory. She opened her eyes slowly and looked around. She wasn't in a healers shop at all, but in an old abandoned house. There was enough dust for ten years and cobwebs as well. She got up slowly and looked around the room and realized that there had been no one else here. She had the feeling she was still being watched closely, but could not see anyone. Her satchel was beside the bed and nothing had been removed. She picked it up and as she did a small piece of paper fluttered from on top of the shelf. It simply read "follow your dreams." She looked at the paper and again around the room. She placed the paper in her journal and set out for home. Upon exiting the home she noticed she wasn't terribly far from where she had grown up and she had passed this house many times when she was a child. She did not know how she had come this far and not known it.
She made her way home and found the letter from Smiticles. She hoped he had not worried when she did not come to find him. She went to her study and took a piece of parchment and began writing...
My darling Smiticles,
I do hope that this finds you well and in good spirits. I have missed you so. You are like the stars that guide the sailors home safely in a storm. Your love guides my heart to yours and there I am safe. I have missed the comfort of your arms and the warmth of your kisses.
I have had the most odd journey and I can not wait to share it with you. This elven city you speak so fondly of sounds amazing and I can not wait to have you show me. I too have thought and found many places I wish to share with you as you requested. I am also sure there are places that have yet to be discovered by either of us, and I look forward to sharing those with you as well.
I shall be at the Freehold tomorrow evening, as Claudette has told me there are festivities planned, and I hope that you will find your way there as well.
The more I know you, the more I love you.
Always Yours,
Mallory
Mallory sealed the note with a bit of wax and a kiss. She plucked a single red rose from her garden. She journeyed to Vesper and left the letter and rose for Smiticles at his house. She then returned home to rest and think upon the events that had recently occured. _________________ Good friends are like stars. You don't always see them but you always know they are there...
