Claudette had left for a few days to do a bit of soul searching. She needed to clear he mind of certain things. She had chosen to visit a secluded location that she frequented a lot when Aldwin was alive. She felt a connection to him there and because there was no actual grave she could visit, she had deemed it the place she went to if she wanted to feel close to him again. It had been years since the last time she had visited the area yet nothing seemed changed or altered. It was serene and comforting and as she set up camp, she knew it was the right place for her to be. As the cool night breeze appeared, she settled down by the fire and looked up at the stars. She drew a long breath and then began to speak into the night.

“I do not know if you can hear me but it brings me comfort to think that you can. I can only hope that you are in a peaceful place, away from the horrible monsters that took your life.” She pauses, takes a sip of her tea and continues, “After your death, I thought I would never find happiness again. My entire world darkened the day Nico told me what had happened and to this day I cannot seem to think about it without feeling the pain all over again. You were my all, I loved you with everything I had and you were taken away from me by those vial and disgusting creatures.”

Looking into the fire and fighting back the tears, Claudette forces herself to continue. “For years I tried to tell myself that I could live life without the love of another. That your love, despite your absence, would be enough. I know you would have told me to move on and be happy, to live my life to the fullest and with no regrets.” Placing her cup by the fire and shifting from her sitting position into one where she’s laying down looking up at the stars, Claudette smiles towards the sky and thinks about Melior. “I have come here to tell you about a great man. I know the two of you would get along for you both have a lot in common. You are both strong and courageous, loyal and romantic and most importantly, both of you hold my heart. His name is Melior. He came into my life unexpectantly and without warning. He captured my heart and has helped me to overcome heartbreak and loss. He’s patient and loving and only wants what is best for me. He has asked me to marry him and I have accepted his proposal. It is time for me to move on and seek happiness once again. Know that you will always hold a special place in my heart and that I will always love you.”

Claudette gets up and reaches into her bag. She takes out a beautiful golden ring with a bright sapphire mounted in the middle of two diamonds. She lightly touches the gems and closes her eyes. “You gave this ring to me when you proposed, it is the only thing I kept of yours, everything else just made the pain worse. Until now I had kept it under lock and key only looking at it occasionally. Now I feel I can part with this too. I do not fear forgetting you any longer. I know you will forever remain in my heart and my memories. I have come here to force myself to say the words so many said I needed to utter in order to move on.” As she takes in a deep breath and looks into the fire, tears glisten on her face. She reaches into her bag once more and takes out a small gardening shovel. With it she digs a small hole, delicately wraps the ring in a piece of cloth and places it in the hole. As she begins to fill the hole once again and wipes the tears from her eyes, she suddenly feels warmth on her cheek as if someone were touching it. As she looks around, she sees nothing and a shiver runs up her spine. She suddenly feels herself engulfed in a comforting hug. Her lips tingle after feeling a tender kiss laid upon them and just as quickly the feeling is gone. As she sits there, she places her hand on the cheek where she felt the warmth and smiles. She knows she has just been given what she sought. She places her hand on the mound of freshly dug dirt and as tears spill onto it, she whispers “Goodbye Aldwin, Goodbye my love.” She then lies down and with her hand still lying over the buried ring; she falls asleep by the warmth of the fire and under the beauty of the night’s sky.
