Pain….

Unimaginable pain….

Even now, the day after, there was no feeling but pain.

Their argument had gone on until the early hours of the morning. He had told her that he would find a way to break the control Bailos had over her, but he was not sure he could. In fact, the truth was, despite her words he was not convinced she even wanted him to. So many interactions between him and Sadira went through his mind. So many times she had chosen Bailos over him, even when not forced to. But last night... what occurred then had plunged a broadsword into his heart.

Bailos had not declared himself King, Sadria had crowned him. Bailos had not named her his wife, she had said those words.....she wanted to be his Queen, wanted to be his wife. Zarlox had nearly collapsed upon hearing her say that. He could tell she was not herself....that she was being influenced in some way....

That fact did not change his feelings one bit.

She had betrayed him, she had betrayed the resistance, she had betrayed the Virtues, and she had betrayed every single man, woman, and child in the City.

Zarlox thanked the Virtues she only had limited information of whom supported their cause, and the readiness of the military. His men had already begun to move the supporters Sadira knew about out of the City, and had several hideouts abandoned before he even went to speak with her. She could not be trusted.

He loved her very much; he did not lie when he told her that. That he wanted to free her so they could again be together was also the truth. But he could not feel that love, not right now, not anytime soon. He had replaced his emotions with cold hard logic. She may not control her own thoughts, and whether she really did love him or not did not matter. Bailos knew Zarlox loved her. Knew Zarlox would trust her.

Staring straight ahead, his face was more than a match for the stone wall that looked back at him. He would order the resistance supporters to give Sadira nothing but misinformation unless directly ordered by Zarlox himself.

Someday...someday he may experience her true love again, he may feel that warmth in his heart. But today, the only thing he could feel in his heart was that broadsword...that broadsword now pointed directly at Blackguard....and its rulers.
