Claudette had written two letters thanking Flair and Mallory for their help with the quest to find answers to Brianha’s memory loss. She had one more to write but this one was very different, she had written many drafts and yet none of them seemed right. She had gone back and forth on what to say to him, whether or not to make it a personal letter or just a simple thank you. In the end she had thrown them all away. Finally she knew she just had to do it and sat down at her writing desk.
Dear Drayden,
On behalf of the Adventurer's League of Vesper (ALV), we would like to thank you for your help and support in trying to help Brianha regain her memory. Your research led us to the crystal ball and your leadership and strength helped us to accomplish our goal. We will be forever indebted to you and if there ever should be anything you need, please do not hesitate to contact any of the members of the ALV. Thank you again.
Sincerely,
Claudette
Claudette re-read the letter and sighed. It was quite cold and businesslike but she felt that was best since he had asked her for some space. She wanted to tell him how much she missed looking into his eyes and feeling his tender touch on her skin. Seeing him the night of the quest had been difficult. They had exchanged only a few pleasantries and none of them had been too personal. She wondered what he had been doing with his time and how things were. She longed for him to talk to her the way he used to and make her smile; instead he was quiet and reserved. It had been sheer torture to be so close to him physically and yet feel only distance. She did not know when or even if he would approach her and she hoped that he would not wait too long. She knew she needed to be patient but that had never been easy for her and she did not know how long she would be able to wait for him. Her heart was already broken and she did not know how much more shattering it could take.
Sealing the letter with a glob of wax, she pressed the ALV stamp on it and allowed it to dry. She then went into Vesper to hire a messenger and gave him a few extra coins to ensure a fast delivery. _________________

The sun was setting when the messenger arrived at his tower. The dying rays casting an orange glow on the water before his home. He paid the boy and shooed him away. After the events that had transpired he had retreated to his home to be alone for a while. He had always hated crowds of people.
Drayden walked inside his home, sitting at his stone table which as always remained empty. Using a fine dagger he sliced open the letter and unfolded it. Sapphire eyes blinked as he saw the sender. Quickly reading it he marvelled at how short and professional it seemed. Fetching a quill, inkwell and fresh piece of parchment be began writing a reply to Claudette.
Dear Claudette.
It was my honor to assist Brianha and the League in every way possible. I am sure that this will not be the last time. Know that I did what I did not only for the Legion and Vaen, but for you. I hope to speak with you soon on a more personal level. Perhaps over dinner. We have much to catch up on.
Drayden
Legionary of the Legion of Justice
With the letter written he sealed it with the Grimoire seal and addressed it. Then tied it to his falcon's leg and whispered directions to him. The bird flew off, in the direction of Vesper. |

Claudette sat on a chair in her garden with a book on her lap. Things had been so busy lately that her studies had been shoved to the side and it was time for her to continue them. She saw a large bird-like shadow fly by and realized a large falcon was circling around her house. The bird swooped down and perched itself on the ledge of her garden. Claudette immediately noticed that something was tied to its leg. Smiling at the bird she soothingly talked to it as she approached it. Reaching for the letter, she stroked the bird’s chest. "I’ll be right back my friend." Seeming to understand her, the bird waited patiently while Claudette went downstairs and tore some raw meat off a rib. Going back upstairs, she offered the bird a treat and then sat down to read the letter.
When she turned the letter over and saw the Grimoire seal, her heart began beating faster. She tore at the envelope and pulled the letter out reading its words eagerly. Her eyes widened as she read that he wanted to meet with her for dinner to discuss some personal matters. Is this it, she thought, has he made a decision? Nervously she allowed her thoughts to wander. She hoped that his decision included her and that they could continue getting to know each other better. Reading the letter over again, she noticed how simply he had signed it. Perhaps, like her, he was being guarded about their relationship. She knew that this would end in one of two ways, and for her heart’s sake she hoped happiness would prevail.
Watching the falcon devour the meat she had provided him, Claudette found a piece of parchment and penned a simple reply being careful to contain her excitement.
Dear Drayden,
If you are ready to meet with me and you feel you’ve had enough time to sort through your feelings, I would like nothing more than to meet over dinner and “catch up” as you say. Please let me know when and where so that I may make the appropriate plans.
Claudette sat there for a while thinking of an appropriate ending. She wanted so badly to sign it “love Claudette” but knew it was not right. After thinking a bit, she wrote
I look forward to seeing you soon.
Sincerely,
Claudette
After sealing the letter, Claudette got up and walked over to the majestic falcon. Stroking his chest once again, she carefully tied her letter to his talon and told him to return to his master, “Safe journey my friend” she shouted as the bird spread its wings and took flight. _________________

It was time. And now that he had sorted everything out he had to be the man he claimed to be and be honest. Drayden sighed as he sat at his large stone desk. Books were still piled haphazardly, leftovers from his endless research of a way to help Brianha. Now that all was said and done he had finally had time to reflect on his feelings and the women that were in his life. Sadly one's heart must be broken in order for this all to finally come to an end.
He pulled a fresh sheet of parchment from his desk as well as a quill.
Claudette,
I have had adequate time to figure out what I needed to know. I would rather discuss this with you in person, face to face. As I do not want to get into such things through mere letters to you. My apologies for the other night with Alessandra. I was there to discuss business with her involving the legion as well as the acquisition of a new home. I will meet with you at the Freehold this evening at 9 o'clock.
Drayden
Be blew the ink dry and gently folded the piece of parchment, sealing it with his seal. He then recalled to Claudette's home and set it down on her doorstep. Shaking his head sadly he murmured, I'm so sorry Claudette. and vanished. |

Alessandra.. so that was her name, Claudette thought as she opened and read Drayden's letter. She had heard the name somewhere before, and thought she had even talked to her briefly once or twice.
Claudette read Drayden's letter over again. Once again it was the way he had signed it that caught her eye. He had merely written his name. She was glad that he had written and that he wanted to meet with her but his words were not at all comforting to her. She knew that they had to talk. She needed an answer from him and she could not and would not wait any longer. She quickly took a piece of parchment out and penned a simple reply.
Drayden,
I will meet you tonight at the Freehold, however I think it would be best if we went somewhere more private from there.
Claudette
She stepped outside of her house and called over one of her gypsy friends. Handing the man some gold along with some food and drink for his journey, she gave him directions to Drayden's house. She then went inside and with a heavy heart tried her best to continue with her studies. _________________
