Slowly, he made his way towards the large building simply known as the "Garden Freehold." His skin had paled, and he was weak. He could barely even keep the shadows from dispersing, thus rendering his skills useless. All around him, it was black and white, no coloration, just the same dull colors.

I hunger so... and I can smell them, they are upstairs, maybe four, hopefully less. I doubt I could get one of them with that many numbers...

Stepping onto the teleporter, he scanned the room quickly, and set his sights on the small group of people. Two men, and two women. One, he recognized to be Maggy Malone, the owner of a tavern he frequented. The other woman was obviously weakened, probably by an injury, but that did not matter.

No.. these will not do... but that doesn't mean I cannot have a little fun.

He began by walking about, still enshrouded, and then appearing, speaking a few words, and once again dissapearing. He could tell that one of them, who had a heavy accent, was getting annoyed. Also, Maggy was getting quite jumpy, so easily frightened.

This is all fun.. but, no, it's not. I'm wasting my time here, and i'm getting weaker with every attempt to dissapear.

Slowly, he walked out of the tavern, and walked north. He stumbled upon an elderly man walking, and lunged. He was quickly slammed to the ground, taken by surprise.

Delicious.... he tastes of the arcane. I wonder if he was a wandering healer? Oh well...

Slowly removing his dark garments, he folded them neatly, and put them under his armor. Then, he slowly pulled out his kilt, doublet, and feathered hat, and put them on.

There we are, now I look a bit more normal atleast...

Making his way back to the freehold, he spotted Maggy standing outside, flipping through a runebook. She was obviously nervous, most likely from his own recent actions.

Poor girl... perhaps I should lay off...

After a little chit-chat, Corzan learned that Maggy would be going home. What an excellent opportunity.

Oh Corzan... you are so mean...

Watching her recall off, he quickly melded into the shadows, and put back on his more... intimidating clothing. Recalling off to the Hunters Lodge, he could hear her from upstairs, doing some kind of chore. Making his way through the tavern, he eventually got to the roof, and could see that Ms. Malone was making some flour.

What do we have here? She makes her own flour? Hmph, and here I was thinking that she bought it.

Making his way over to Maggy, she looked up towards the teleporter, and obviously, she was frightened. After being surprised at the Garden, she could probably take no more of Corzan's games. Walking past her gate which she had so conveniently opened up, he emerged from the shadows, much to Maggy's surprise.

Well now, I bet you weren't expecting that, eh?

She had returned home to an empty building. There were no borders this night and all was quiet. She decided since she could not sleep because of what had happened at the Freehold she would go to the kitchen and mill the wheat that Nico had left for her. She smiled thinking of him but then her thoughs drifted to the events at the Freehold again and she started looking around nervously. She loaded up the mill and began turning the crank. The noise filled the room and eased her fears some but she still was thinking of the events earlier...

She had had a wonderful evening playing a fun game at the Freehold but then the fun ended abruptly as a man appeared from nowhere in a chair at a close by table. She saw him one moment and the next he had disapeared only to pop up behind her sitting on the stool at the bar. He made a point to ask her if the murderer had been found for the poor girl that died on the steps of the Lodge a week previous. The figure unnerved her to the point that she jumped when he appeared behind her and from there it was all down hill. He came closer and she felt the hairs on he back of her neck stand up. He was up to no good and she knew it but then just as quickly he disapeared.

After making her goodbyes she headed for the front of the building and was thumbing through her rune books when that nice fella from the Lodge came up and said hello and asked if all was well. She nodded but she was still quite shaken. She said goodnight and used one of the recalls that Nico had given her for her book and went home hoping she could calm herself and be able to sleep...Work...that would take her mind off the evening she thought.

As she worked and thought about the evening she heard something over the drone of the flour mill. She looked around stopping only for a moment to hear what it was. She shook her head and though to herself that she was just hearing things and it was nothing but a stray animal that must have stepped on the teleporter.

Then she heard it again...She stepped towards the kitchen gate and opened it looking around and saw nothing. She stepped back and picked up another bundle of wheat and was ready to place it in the mill when HE APPEARED AGAIN! Right in front of her...She nearly jumped out of her skin and stumbbled back away from the gate.

Her eyes widened as he moved into the kitchen. He began to question her as to what she knew about the shadowy man that killed the girl. She shook her head and reapeated what she had been told by the brother of the girl.

As she did the man replyed...Like me?...

She nodded her eyes full of fear.

He said...That is because I killed her! And you know what those marks on her neck were from?...

She shook her head and then nodded terrified...Something that does not exsist...a Vampire....

The man laughed darkly and called her a fool.

She asked if he was going to bite her. He said no that he had just fead. She was somewhat releaved but still was terrifed.

He kept moving closer to her. He said that there were many even among the patrons at the lodge that were vampires. He even suggested that the love of her life, Nico was indeed a vampire. She called him a lier and he laughed. He said he was just kidding. She told him that that wasn't funny but he still seemed to be quiet amused with himself about his deception.

After that he moved closer to her and breathed deeply as if to take in her sent and her fear for some twisted pleasure, She began to shake. He said he came here often. Her eyes widened at that statement. She didn't know who he was and did not recall seeing him in the lodge before.

He moved towards the back wall walking past her. She was to fightened to move. He whispered loud enough for her to hear that if she were to tell what she knew should she discover who he was she would not live long or perhaps he would turn her. He then walked to the edge of the building and dropped down disapearing in mid air.

Maggy was so shaken she could just cup her head in her hands colapsing on the chair in the kitchen and cryed. Gathering wits about her, she put away the freshly milled flour into the box and walked down to her room and locked her door. Although she did not feel safe and would not again alone in the lodge it made her feel better to lock it. Obviously a locked door would not have made any difference to this visitor though. She slepted in her gorget and leather armor if you could call it sleep. She got to know every crack in the cealing and many of the imperfections in the walls of the lodge as she hugged her pillow and blankets to her all night between fitful rest.

Silently, he watched her. She was oh so frightened, even putting on armor before she lay down to rest for the night.

A shame that I frightened you so, perhaps I should have been a bit more polite.

She was wearing her leather gorget and armor, gripping her pillow and blankets very tightly. Slowly, he climbed down from atop the armoire, landing without any slight noise at all. Walking over to the bed, he removed his mempo, and let his kasa fall to his back. There he was, in this small, dark room, standing above Maggy, completely unable to hide his identity if she were to awaken. It did not matter, he did not care.

You and I, so different from one another. Never could I possibly share my existance with anyone else. All view me as a monster, a horrible creature which must be put down. I must teach you otherwise, perhaps help sway the others

Slowly, and gently, he sat on the bed beside her, trying his best not to awaken her from her very light sleep.

They do not know who I truly am. They view all of us as disgusting monsters, who only exist to create death and decay. So quickly that they will jump to conclusions.

He turns around to face Maggy, who is still sleeping. Slowly, he leans over to her, his face only a foot away, if even that.

You have no reason to fear me, Maggy. In fact, I do not want you to fear me. I want you to understand me, and to treat me as anyone else. Just as I want everyone else to know that we are not evil, nor good, we are simply here.

Delicately, he unbuckled her gorget, and set it aside.

That is probably very uncomfortable, yes?

Then, gingerly, he brushed away her hair, making sure that he didn't disturb her rest. Slowly easing his way towards her, he examined every part of her face.

Do not fear me anymore, Maggy.

Softly, he kissed her left cheek, and slowly moved himself off the bed. Pulling a small parchment from a pouch along his belt, he folded it, and placed it on her nightstand. It read:

My Dearest Maggy,

I have watched you recently, but there is no need to be in fear. I am not here to harm you, but my reasons must remain my own, for now. For too long we have been ridiculed, and portrayed as monsters. I can show you that this we are not. We are merely people, trying to survive in this world. Those who follow the virtues, and the "light", deem anything that is not in accordance with their ways to be evil. I do hope that you do not feel this way either. Until we meet next time, do sleep well, none shall harm you.

Sincerely,

C.S.

She opens her eyes after a fitful night and notices the gorget sitting on the pillow next to her. She jumps up startled an grasps it holding it to her as if she had seen a ghost. She looks around nervously as if she could see into the shadows but to no avail.

As she scans the room she sees the note sitting on her writing table and her eyes widen with fear. She walks over and sits and just stairs at it for a time. She reaches her hand along the edge of the desk. She slowly moves her hand to the note as if it were going to bite her. She takes the note into her hand and gingerly opens it, sees the signature and does not recognize the letters.

She begins to read it. She can hardly hold the paper her hands are shaking so bad so she lays it opened on the desk and finishes the letter. She takes a deep breath trying to compose herself. She knows that he was here. The gorget sitting on the bed...surely he could have bitten her. Did he change his mind after removing it? His letter says he wants me not to fear him but...He was in my room... A cold chill runs up her spine and she folds the letter gently and tucks it in her pocket. she makes plans to go see Nico and writes a letter to him.

My dearest Love,

I fear my life is in danger. I may be worried over nothing but I must talk to you as soon as you are able. I will tell you what has happened when I see you my Love. Please make plans to see me as soon as possible, I feel it is urgent. I miss you terribly.

Yours eternally,

Maggy

After reading the letter from Maggy, Nicodemus quickly started to gather the necessary weapons to make his way to the Lodge. Nico had not gotten back to the Lodge in several days and he missed Maggy greatly. The last night they had spent together was by far one of the best nights of his life. Now someone was coming into their lives and threatening his love. He would not allow this to happen. Determined to protect and to comfort Maggy he set out for the Lodge.
