Mallory was fuming when she reached her home. She threw open the door and slammed it hard enough that it brought the cook running certain they were under attack. As she made her way to the basement Mallory gave her a single look that made her immediately return to the kitchen. Mallory had not been this mad in all of her life. Well, maybe she had, but she was usually able to control her temper, but tonight had been an exception. She threw her bag on the floor and turned and started rummaging through her weapon stash that she had inherited from various people. She threw them down one after another… there was one she was looking for and only it would do. She suddenly sliced her hand on one of the swords and she screamed as loud as she could as she drew her hand back and wrapped it in her skirt and finally the tears flowed freely, and not from the pain of the small cut.

She had decided to accompany her friends Claudette and Nicodemus to a hearing in Zento. It was nice being in the company of her two new friends. She had asked Claudette if Smiticles was feeling better and had discussed sending him some stomach calming herbs. Claudette had thought that to be an excellent idea and Mallory decided as soon as she got home she would do that. They made their way to the court and Mallory sat behind Claudette and Nicodemus and listened as testimony was given.

Each clan gave their reasons for wanting to control Zento and why they should be allowed to. Soon Tai had asked anyone that wished to speak on either clans’ behalf to step forward. Claudette was an eloquent speaker, stating how Flair had been so helpful with Brianha, as well as the rest of the alliance. Mallory recalled back to when the Alliance was formed at the Garden. They had always been so kind to her, calling her Mallory-san and never laughing when she tried desperately to use their language. In fact most recently a gentleman named Andrew Francis had offered to help her learn more about the land. She was drawn from her reverie and looked to Tai and Rryn with her hand raised. They acknowledged her and she stood at the front of the court, nervous but knowing what she wanted to say. She told of the Alliance and their love for their people and for their land. How they were loyal and honorable. If it had not been for them she very well could have been dead… or worse. A lump formed in her throat as she recalled her friendship with many within the Alliance and she wiped away a single tear as she concluded.

She made her way back to her seat and could not help but notice that there were two ladies that were looking at her, pointing and laughing. Mallory’s cheeks flushed and she sat there hoping she had not said anything wrong. Soon the discussion became heated and Mallory removed herself from the room to retain her composure. When she returned she noticed the seat next to Claudette was empty and she sat there next to her friend. She looked over her shoulder as Vaen entered and she smiled and greeted him. She couldn’t help but overhear some of the things the lady next to him was saying… claiming that Mallory was not truthful and had been paid for her testimony. Mallory could not handle it any longer. She whipped around and looked at the woman and told her to not make such false accusations. The woman smirked and continued to accuse Mallory of being dishonorable, with her actions and with men. Mallory stood up from her seat and glared down at the woman, her eyes glowing with anger. She had never been so mad at anyone in her life. How dare she question her? Mallory had never done anything dishonorable in her life, never lied, never done anything with a man and here this woman was accusing of such horrible acts. The thought suddenly crossed her mind, what if Smiticles heard these accusations… what if he believed them… Her eyes immediately filled with tears and she excused herself before she did something she would regret… like remove this horrible woman’s tongue.

Mallory wiped her tears on her sleeve and looked at her wound. It was nothing serious and would heal quickly. She sighed and made her way upstairs to the study and pulled out a piece of parchment. She began writing…

My darling Smiticles,

I hope that this letter finds you in better health. I am sending you some herbs that will assist with calming of your stomach. It is something that my grandmother passed along to my mother and something I still use to this day. Grind it to a fine powder and pour steaming hot water over it and allow it to sit long enough that it will not burn your tongue when you drink it. It may not taste the best, but it will help. You have my word.

Know that my thoughts are with you my love and am here should you need me.

Yours,
Mallory

She went to her garden and plucked a few herbs and placed them in the letter and sealed it with a bit of wax. She noticed she had let a single drop of blood fall on the letter and she tried to wipe it off. Certainly he wouldn’t notice something that small. She addressed the letter and called the messenger who warily peeked his head out from his post. She laughs softly and handed him the letter to deliver to her beloved.

She continued to chuckle as she continued her search for the sword. She finally found it and made her way to Destard to fight with some dragons and take out her anger on some worthy beings, praying to the Virtues that Smiticles would not hear of such things that were said about her at the meeting.
