The icy mist wrapped its cold arms around Brianha ,taking her to a far off place in her mind. She seemed resistant to its chill as she sat in the throne on Ceinwyn's roof reflecting on all that had transpired in the last few days. She felt almost dead inside with the pain of deception and betrayal. Her mind was haunted by confusion and she felt more lost now than when she awoke not knowing who she was.
Shaking her head she stood and walked to the edge of the roof contemplating what she was to do next. As she stood there the conversation she had with Ceinwyn poisoned her mind again. So many things she had told her of her lovers past, so many times he had betrayed, had hurt, had been deceptive to the women he had loved. To the wind she screamed “NO”. She allowed the tears to fall down her face freezing as they hit the cold air. The scene was taking over her mind and she thought of nothing else save for what happened.
Brianha had sought out Ceinwyn to gain some insight to their friendship. They both went up to her roof and sat. As the pleasantries were discussed things turned to a more serious discussion in which Ceinwyn put her past on the table for Brianha… in it she went through the relationship she had had with Vaen and the things he had done to turn her heart cold against him. Then she proceeded to admit she had not wanted Brianha to feel this pain and so had devised a plan to keep Brianhas heart free from his grasp.
“I only intended for your memory of HIM to be frozen, I had not known the spell was as powerful as it was.”
Shocked and upset at being betrayed by her friend she looked away angry.
Ceinwyn stood and held a dagger to Brianha “Take it”.
Looking at the dagger and contemplating its use on herself she looked away briefly then looked at Ceinwyn. “NO”
Hanging her head she listened to Ceinwyn try to convince her that she should. Brianha stood and made her case.
“I am hurt but had I been through what you have… my heart would have told me to do the same thing.”
Though Brianha felt betrayed she knew it was done with the intention of protecting her.
“Would you like me to give you your memories back?” Ceinwyn had said to her.
“No I would like to sort things out without being blinded by my emotions… I need to work through this as I am now and not as I was before”.
“Well when you decide you would like them to return it is a simple cure really… you just need to be in the suns warmth for some time”
Looking surprised and almost amused at how simple it would be to regain everything she had thought she had wanted, she smirked and looked down. With the knowledge she had the quest was almost pointless for the crystal ball… but not entirely.
She knew that if any of the others had discovered this information they would hunt Ceinwyn down and try to destroy her. Also seeing her past without any emotion would benefit her. Ceinwyn could sense that she needed to be alone to work through some things and so she parted and left her with her thoughts on the icy rooftop.
In solitude she allowed the pain to circle around her heart and squeeze it until she felt she could not breath. So much deception, so many lies, so much hurt. “I can not let this destroy me… I will fight through this and find my path again”. Her words went unheard and floated away with the cold icy breeze.
“I shall remain here where the cold is my comfort, where it holds my memories at bay so that I might think” She curled up in the chair and pulled her cloak a little tighter around her as she allowed the blackness to surround her and take her into its embrace. |
