Having decided that they were going to work on their friendship, Flair and Claudette met at the Freehold so she could help him go over some books that Tai had left for him. She wasn’t quite sure why Flair had asked for her help in this matter and she feared she wouldn’t be able to offer any. Flair insisted that he needed a fresh set of eyes to help him find some valuable information in the books and that she was just the one to do it. Some had warned her that perhaps it was too early to attempt friendship with him and that his feelings for her might still be too strong and yet she could not deny him this. She had already hurt him bad enough and she wanted this friendship to work.

After reading a lot and discussing some of the principles of leadership, a man asking them if they would like any refreshments interrupted them. He had told them that Hugh had sent him and so Claudette had asked for some water. Upon looking at the stranger, Claudette felt a hint of recognition and rapidly brushed it off. It cannot be, she thought, he must just really look like him.

Some time passed and the very thirsty Claudette decided to go and get her own water. Obviously this servant of Hugh’s had gotten lost. Asking Flair to excuse her, she left the balcony where they sat and made her way down to the bar. She saw the stranger sitting there and somewhat annoyed, got herself her own water. He seemed to be staring at her quite intently and the more she looked at him the more familiar his features became. Again, she brushed off her thoughts. He was listed amongst the dead.. it cannot be him. She thought.

After exchanging a few pleasantries, he finally introduced himself as Jerrick. Upon hearing the name, Claudette’s eyes widened and she thought she felt her stomach flip. Then he mentioned the Company of the White Stag. That had been the name of her old guild many years ago. They had disbanded after so many of them had perished during a brutal fight with a band of orcs. Her lover had been amongst them and such thoughts were still very painful for her. Seeing Jerrick seemed to bring them all back with much intensity. It had been different with Nicodemus, she had known he had been one of the survivors and was the only one she kept in touch with on a regular basis.

Reality descended upon her as she listened to his valiant survival story. He didn’t have much time to talk but assured her that he would come back and talk some more with her. She was sure Nicodemus would be as surprised to see him and looked forward to getting all three of them together to talk about the past.

Claudette apologized to Flair for the interruption. He seemed a bit annoyed with her but told her he understood. Later on she would tell Flair more about her past and then perhaps he would truly understand. That night, as Claudette sat in her garden drinking some tea, she realized that seeing Jerrick had brought back some unwanted memories. She knew that as happy as she was to see him, it would finally be time for her to face her daemons and truly mourn Aldwin’s death. She briefly allowed herself to think about him and then quickly shoved the thought out of her mind. The pain was still too much to bear even after all the time that had passed. As she took the last sip of her tea, she sighed heavily and made her way downstairs for what would be another restless night.
