Nathan awoke feeling worse than he did the day before. Certain muscles in his arms and legs had twitched constantly all night which made sleep most difficult. The twitching had finally lessened enough to allow him to get some rest. But now, upon waking, he noticed a persistent ache and soreness in his limbs. He rubbed his arms and legs. "Guess I need to see Wayland about this today. Can't stand another night of it," he told Aletha, his wife who lay half-awake in bed beside him. She nodded sleepily.

"You have some kind of disease," Wayland, the Healer Guildmaster told him. "What have you been doing of late and where have you been?" he inquired.

"Working at the docks as usual. Been nowhere in particular," he explained. "What kind of disease are you talking about?"

Wayland merely shrugged. "I have seen several cases of it the last two days... quite unusual. Something I cannot cure, I know that. Stay home a few days and see how it goes."

Nathan shook his head. "Can't do that; they don't pay me for staying home."

Wayland nodded. "Well, in that case, just be sure to rest as much as you can. I don't know if it is contagious or not, but it's best to assume it is. You might let people know you don't feel well. Let them decide if they want to take any risks by being around you too close."

"Is that it?" Nathan put his shirt back on.

"Pretty much, for now. I will report it to the mages and see what they advise."

Eric uncorked the vial and poured the white powder haphazardly into the river, far from its source where he had been instructed to put it. "This is good enough," he thought. He glanced around as he did so, looking to see if anyone was watching. Seeing no one, he threw the vial and what was left of its contents into the water, and then hurried back to Papua.

From a short distance, concealed in a clump of undergrowth, Skurj, in rat-form, watched him disapprovingly. "Rebellious cur," he cursed to himself. "Ivan will be paying you a visit."

As the day wore on, the Healer's hut in Papua filled with townsfolk, all complaining of the same thing: muscle pain from which they could find no relief. Sending them all away with advice to rest and wait things out, Wayland posted a note on his door:

Ceinwyn, on one of her many walks through the town of Papua, happened upon the healers' hut. She halted in her tracks because she saw a long line of people, all exhausted-looking. Those at the front of the line turned around to yell to those behind them.

"There's no help for us, here! Some sort o' epi-thing. It's all of us what's got it! It says ta stay in bed and rest!"

Slowly, the people all turned and began to head to wherever there homes were. Ceinwyn waited until even the last groaning victim hobbled off.

Then she crept up to the healers' hut.

Interesting. Seems like a terribly suspicious coincidence that Lord Bloodmoon vacated this city, so they could have it. And now it is plagued with something. I know Lord Bloodmoon will be interested in hearing about this.

She strode into the provisioner's, ignoring the threat of disease.

"I'd like to purchase an apple!" she declared, to the weary shopkeeper.

"But, Milady, have you not heard? Our produce may be infected!" he weakly exclaimed.

"Those are the kind that taste the BEST!" She smiled and paid for her apple. Walking out of the shop as the provisioner shook his head at her, she bit deeply into the apple.

Now, off to see Lord Bloodmoon
